00:00 The Centenary of Legacy is an opportunity to reflect on the cumulative impact of legacy
00:06 and to celebrate the remarkable contribution legacies have had on our community.
00:11 I can't think of an organisation that speaks more of what our nation is about and who we
00:16 are as Australians as legacy.
00:19 In difficult times, mates and strangers alike come together and act on a commitment to look
00:25 after the families of those who fell in the service of our nation.
00:30 It is a commitment as relevant and powerful today as it was when it was first made a century
00:35 ago.
00:37 Legacy and legatees epitomise the best of our characteristics, the richness of spirit
00:43 that's at the core of us as a people.
00:46 2023 will be one of the most significant and memorable years in the history of legacy in
00:51 Australia.
00:53 The launch of the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay, presented by Defence Health at Posse
00:58 Airs on 23 April, will be the flagship event to mark 100 years.
01:03 It will be a special time for all involved in legacy, to reflect on the commitment we
01:08 made to look after the families of those who served and to celebrate the honouring of that
01:13 commitment.
01:15 The torch signifies the undying flame of service and sacrifice of those who gave their lives
01:21 for their country.
01:23 The torch also represents the understanding that departed comrades have passed the torch
01:28 onto their mates, the legatees, to look after the missus and the kids.
01:34 As stated in the Legacy Ode, "Fear not that you have died for naught, the torch you threw
01:40 to us we caught, and now our hands will hold it high, its glorious light shall never die.
01:48 We'll not break faith with you who lie on many a field."
01:53 Linda and I wish you well at Posse Airs next year for the start of the flame's worldwide
01:57 journey.
01:58 I thank all involved in Legacy Australia for your ongoing selfless and outstanding contribution
02:04 to the families of those who have served.
02:06 Thank you.
