Met Office Weather 2nd August 2023
Transcript
00:00 A wind warning across southern counties associated with strong south-westerly winds which could
00:06 turn very gusty, gusts up to 50mph, so some high waves associated with it.
00:12 And thunderstorms across this zone here, anywhere from southern parts of northern England, much
00:15 of Wales towards the Midlands.
00:17 And with light winds, the showers will be slow moving.
00:21 So the rain returns towards the West Country as well as Wales.
00:24 This band of rain slowly moves its way northwards, again persistent and heavy, showery for Northern
00:28 Ireland but a better afternoon to come here.
00:31 In between, this is where we're seeing the thunderstorms, so thunder, lightning as well
00:34 as hail.
00:35 The persistent rain pushes towards the south-east through the afternoon, again strong and gusty
00:41 winds here and a relentless easterly breeze across the south-east of Scotland, north-east
00:46 England, again associated with some heavy and persistent rain.
00:49 But some brighter skies coming through towards the north-west as we head through the latter
00:52 part of the day as thunderstorms rumble on into the evening on Wednesday.
00:57 This rain continues through Wednesday evening across eastern counties, sliding down towards
01:02 East Anglia before retreating towards the North Sea.
01:05 And notice this northerly breeze delivering clouds and some showery bursts through into
01:10 Thursday morning.
01:11 A legacy of clouds as we enter Thursday across much of the Midlands, eastern and southern
01:16 counties of England.
01:17 Clearer skies across northern England as well as Wales, but this cloud will stream in here.
01:22 Showery bursts will be frequent across the north and the west of Scotland as well as
01:25 Northern Ireland.
01:26 A little sunshine in between, but some showers developing through the afternoon and they
01:30 could be heavy, again with the outside chance of thunder.
01:33 Temperatures around average for this time of year, but feeling cool exposed to the wind.
01:38 Here's your outlook through Friday.
01:40 Friday is likely to be a slightly better day, more in the way of brighter weather, always
01:44 the chance of some showers.
01:46 The showers certainly across eastern counties could again turn out to be heavy and quite
01:50 persistent for a time as temperatures struggle out to around 18 to 21 degrees Celsius.
01:56 So that's the picture through the end of the working week.
01:59 This ridge comes in on Friday, dampening shower activity into Saturday morning.
02:05 But come Saturday, look at this, an area of low pressure tracks yet again in towards Wales
02:10 as well as the west country, moving ever eastwards through the day.
02:13 The winds will pick up some strength, outbreaks of rain as well, so expect some highways,
02:17 particularly across Irish sea coast.
02:19 Now for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England, we'll see some showers which could
02:22 merge the former longest spread of rain into Sunday associated with this weather front.
02:26 Then the ice bars open out so we'll see a lighter breeze to end Sunday and some fine
02:30 weather towards more southern areas.
