00:00 There are fur parents who love to raise a lot of dogs and cats like me.
00:04 But there are also fur parents who just want their pets to be perfect.
00:07 They consider what they call "being a good son-in-law".
00:11 But not all of them are like that.
00:13 That's my story, "Dapat Alam Mo!"
00:15 Fur babies are always being pampered.
00:20 There's a soft-shelled and cute one,
00:22 best companion, you know.
00:24 Usually, when the breed is good, they are being pampered.
00:27 But there are fur parents who are happy and contented with their pets.
00:30 They are pampering them so that they won't get too many and avoid getting sick.
00:35 But not all of the fur babies are like that.
00:38 Because some of them are getting overweight and become overweight or obese.
00:42 Scarlett, Ashley, and Minnie.
00:47 These are the fur babies of Fur Mom, May.
00:49 In 2016, my church gave me Aspen.
00:53 I bought Scarlett when she was a puppy.
00:57 And these two are the children of my Aspen that I adopted.
01:02 Because she has a lot of fur babies, May studied how to take care of them.
01:06 This is where she saw the benefits of being pampered.
01:09 I need to be pampered because our area is limited.
01:13 They say that the life of a dog will last longer.
01:17 That's one of the reasons why I pamper them.
01:21 Almost a year has passed and her puppies are slowly gaining weight.
01:25 Minnie was only 18 years old before she was adopted.
01:29 Now, she is 26 kilograms.
01:31 Ashley is almost the same, 19.
01:36 And now, she is 27.
01:38 And Scarlett is 20 kilos.
01:41 And now, they are 30 kilos.
01:42 Because of the weight of the puppies, May became alarmed.
01:46 I told the vet that they are not overfed.
01:49 The vet said that I still need to diet.
01:54 So, her advice is to exercise once a day.
01:58 After May's puppies grew up,
02:00 Arnold and Bruno's situation didn't get better.
02:03 At first, Bruno was just a small puppy.
02:06 But when he grew up, he started to be like this.
02:10 Bruno is not easy to carry.
02:13 Bruno is 37 kilos.
02:16 But when he grew up, he was around 40 kilos.
02:21 He can't run at the same time.
02:23 That's why Bruno can't avoid the motorcycle and the accident that happened to May.
02:28 I can't do this anymore.
02:29 I pity him because he can't climb.
02:33 Arnold brought Bruno to the vet.
02:36 And he was told that he needs to exercise.
02:39 For the fur parents who have their puppies,
02:41 this is what the vet explained to Dr. Avril.
02:44 When you say "kapon" in males, that's castration or the removal of testicles.
02:49 And for females, that's spaying or the removal of their ovaries and uterus.
02:55 Neutering does not directly affect the weight of our pet.
03:01 The hormonal changes when you take out the reproductive system of an animal,
03:07 that's when we start to see the weight gain,
03:11 the increase of appetite, and their slower metabolism.
03:16 Which could eventually result to weight increase or obesity.
03:22 We are lowering the risks of our pet in having testicular cancers,
03:27 ovarian cancers, mammary tumors.
03:30 So when you weigh the pros and the cons,
03:32 the pros would always outweigh the cons of having your pet neutered.
03:39 It doesn't mean that if we neuter our pet, it will become obese.
03:45 But neutering should not be the only responsibility of taking care of our pet.
03:49 When our pets get thinner, they are more prone to have heart problems,
03:55 joint problems, bone problems.
03:57 So the weight of our pet should be ideal
04:01 to reduce the risks of such diseases.
04:06 Just like how important it is for a human to take care of their pets,
04:10 because their lives are also responsible.
