As a five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court began hearing a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party Chief Mehbooba Mufti on August 02 said that Supreme Court is the only court that can save the Constitution.
“Supreme Court is hearing petitions of Article 370 today. Supreme Court is not only the last hope of Jammu and Kashmir’s people but also for the people from Manipur and Haryana. As far as Article 370 is concerned, the entire world is watching Supreme Court proceedings in Article 370. Jammu and Kashmir, despite being a Muslim majority state, rejected the two-nation theory based on religion and joined hands with India… Supreme Court will have to see how the institutions in the country have been subverted and the Apex court remains the only institution that can save the Constitution,” said Mehbooba Mufti.

00:00 We are hearing the case of 300 circles in the Supreme Court.
00:09 Our party is also intervening in the case like an intervener.
00:16 You know that the Supreme Court is not only for the people of J&K,
00:26 but also for the people of the country.
00:30 The Supreme Court is burning the whole country with the fire of hatred from Manipur to Haryana.
00:38 This is the last hope left.
00:42 And the question of 300 circles is not only for the people of J&K or the country,
00:50 but the whole world is watching the Supreme Court.
00:54 Because the whole world knows that J&K is a Muslim majority state.
01:02 In 1947, we refused to divide on the basis of religion.
01:14 We joined hands with a democratic and secular India, thinking that we have a unique identity.
01:26 And when the leadership of the country at that time assured us that our unique identity would be safe in India,
01:40 we got guarantees in the constitution of India.
01:44 And we joined hands with this country.
01:49 Today, the whole world is watching the Supreme Court,
01:55 where justice is decided.
02:03 And if you look at the constitution of the country,
02:10 which was in force in India,
02:13 but since the last few years, especially after the 2018 Parliamentary elections,
02:20 the constitution has been kept on fire and is being run on the agenda of one party.
02:28 I think this is a big challenge for the Supreme Court.
02:32 It is not just a matter of removing Article 370 in a non-biased way.
02:37 The Supreme Court will have to see that the country where all institutions have been destroyed,
02:46 where there is only one institution left that can save the constitution of this country.
