Tour de Pologne 2023 - Matej Mohoric still leader of the Tour of Poland : "I'm confident..."

04:07 - Mate, I don't know what to start with.
04:09 Probably I will start with a question,
04:10 do you have some kind of national lottery in Slovenia?
04:13 If you do, you should play definitely today,
04:16 you should play.
04:17 - Yeah, it was on the edge, no?
04:20 Hundreds of seconds count at the end,
04:23 but this is the way the professional sport is, no?
04:27 We are all so close together,
04:29 everybody does, looks in every single detail,
04:33 and it's normal that at the end,
04:36 little margin decides, no?
04:37 Like in Formula One,
04:39 every second or every hundredth of a second counts,
04:42 so tomorrow we will try to,
04:44 no, we will make sure that we keep the jersey.
04:47 - Okay, very impressive power management from you,
04:50 because after the first time check,
04:53 we were almost sure that you're out of the competition,
04:56 but you saved the best for the last kilometers.
04:59 - So yeah, every team has special software, no,
05:03 that we use to get the best pacing strategy,
05:06 because you cannot do same power all time trial,
05:09 you need to give the best power when it's the hardest, no?
05:13 Maybe I hold back too much,
05:16 but I had really, really a lot left for the second part,
05:20 on the uphill section next to the airport,
05:22 I was pushing myself to the limit,
05:25 I was going 43, 44 kilometers an hour on the uphill section,
05:29 so I was like, if I lose today,
05:31 then I couldn't do better,
05:33 and also in the corners,
05:35 I pushed myself to don't touch the brakes,
05:38 and I got it, I think, perfect spot on,
05:41 every corner, I don't think I could do much better,
05:45 maybe one or two seconds, like always,
05:47 but it was really, really perfect time trial,
05:50 of course, Zhao is a little bit better,
05:53 also probably spends more time on a time trial bike than me,
05:55 but yeah, I'm just happy today
05:57 that I managed to hold on to the jersey.
06:00 - So the last question you've mentioned, tomorrow,
06:02 it will not be a friendly stage,
06:04 UIA will do everything not to let the break go,
06:07 a very hectic probably, 67 kilometers,
06:12 67 kilometers until the bonus seconds.
06:15 - I have no fear, we have a super strong team,
06:19 we showed it the whole week,
06:21 I will make sure I stay on Almeida's wheel the whole day,
06:23 and if he goes for bonus seconds,
06:25 then I will do my best to beat him in the sprint,
06:30 but I think it will be very difficult for them,
06:33 because, yeah, even if they want to control the stage
06:36 to go for the bonus seconds,
06:37 I'm probably faster in the sprint,
06:39 and yeah, I'm also willing to take some risks tomorrow,
06:42 we worked hard the whole week,
06:45 Zhao has also other goals in the season,
06:47 he needs to go to Vuelta now,
06:48 and this is the big goal of mine,
06:50 to keep the jersey tomorrow and try to win the overall.
06:53 - See you tomorrow, good luck.
06:55 Thank you.
