00:00 I'm so excited today to be joined by Alyssa Milano,
00:02 whose new documentary for the animals
00:04 is in theaters and on demand now.
00:07 - If there's an animal, a dog, a cat,
00:09 or otherwise that we should find and help,
00:12 please make them visible to us
00:14 and give us the strength to continue this important work.
00:17 - Now I'm gonna ask you five questions.
00:19 For question number one, you'll give me one answer.
00:20 Question number two, you'll give me two answers
00:22 and so on and so forth.
00:23 Are you ready to get started?
00:24 - Sure.
00:26 - The documentary is both heart-wrenching and hopeful.
00:29 If you could describe this project in one sentence,
00:31 what would it be?
00:32 - It is a feature-length documentary
00:35 following the struggles and triumphs
00:39 of a small dedicated group
00:41 of animal rights advocates in Houston.
00:44 - You're also an executive producer of this project.
00:46 Can you give me one reason why you were drawn to it?
00:48 - Well, I believe that storytelling
00:50 is the most important way that we can talk about topics
00:55 because it sort of limits the back and forth
01:00 or the ego that might be involved in a discussion.
01:05 - The filmmakers are super interesting.
01:07 Did you get a chance to get to know them
01:09 while making this documentary?
01:10 - Yeah, Saad B. Sadali Shree and Saad B. Anabuti.
01:15 They're incredible storytellers.
01:17 They are Jain monks.
01:19 I admire them for the way that they make films,
01:22 but also I admire who they are as people
01:26 and the stories that they're trying to tell
01:29 and raise awareness about.
01:31 - The stars of the documentary are activists and twins,
01:34 Tina Lundquist-Faust and Tamma Lundquist.
01:36 They're so passionate about protecting the lives of animals.
01:39 What are two ways they inspired you?
01:41 - The lesson that one person, or in this case,
01:44 two people can truly make a difference.
01:47 And that just because you can't do everything
01:52 doesn't mean you shouldn't try to do one thing.
01:55 These women are just powerhouses.
01:57 They're passionate and they are in a daily battle
02:01 with the city's broken response to dealing with this crisis.
02:06 - I follow you on TikTok
02:07 and I recently saw you use the age filter
02:10 and I love how you're celebrating getting older.
02:12 What are three things you're looking forward to
02:14 in this chapter of your life?
02:15 - I think, you know, basking in my, I don't give a (beep)
02:20 (laughs)
02:22 which took me probably, I would say,
02:24 in the last three or four years,
02:26 I've become secure in my being, in my heart,
02:29 in my intentions, in my integrity.
02:33 To continue to watch my children
02:35 not only fulfill their dreams, but work towards their dreams
02:39 and to continue to just remind them
02:42 that hard work is the most important thing to achieve that.
02:47 And to just be able to pass on my wisdom
02:49 to all who are willing to hear me go on and on.
02:54 (bell dings)
02:55 - The name of your podcast is "Sorry, Not Sorry."
02:58 What are four things
02:59 that you're personally sorry, not sorry for?
03:01 - For being unapologetically vocal
03:05 about human rights issues.
03:08 For being a woman who is not afraid to speak her mind
03:13 and how she feels.
03:15 Being who I am and dealing in life
03:19 with a set of rules that works for me,
03:22 regardless if it works for other people.
03:25 And raising my kids with the importance
03:29 of being who they are, regardless if it pisses people off.
03:34 Sorry, not sorry.
03:37 - And finally, can you give us five action items
03:41 that people can do to help support animals worldwide?
03:43 - They can go check out fortheanimalsmovie.com/getinvolved.
03:48 Everything from adopting
03:51 instead of getting from a breeder or shopping.
03:55 Donating food to local shelters.
03:58 To being a feeder yourself.
04:01 Get involved with your local no-kill shelter.
04:05 Take a dog for a walk.
04:07 Foster a dog.
04:08 I mean, there's just so,
04:11 not only so many things you can do,
04:12 but they're all important and needed right now.
04:16 - Everybody's looking for someone else to do it.
04:19 But we have to be the change that we wanna see.
04:22 - Alyssa, thank you so much for joining me today.
04:24 Now everyone, be sure to watch For the Animals.
04:27 It is out in theaters and on demand now.
