Hear from a few First Nations voices in support of enshrining an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice in the Australian Constitution.
Transcript
00:00 The voice to Parliament is an issue for all Australians, not just First Nations people.
00:07 It's not about politics, it's about knowledge. Knowledge unites people.
00:13 Historically, we as a people have been dehumanised.
00:17 We've been considered an issue to manage.
00:20 But this year, the country has the chance to enact change.
00:24 We need every Australian to rise above the apathy, fear and ignorance this year
00:31 and fill the space between with understanding, compassion, cultural sensitivity and knowledge.
00:38 This is our chance to change history together.
00:43 There's a historical mistrust in governance, which I really get.
00:51 My grandparents were all raised on missions.
00:54 My mother was removed as a kid and raised in a state ward in children's homes.
00:58 So I can understand why we have inherited mistrust of the government.
01:04 And I don't think a referendum will be able to undo any of those damages or heal and change those realities.
01:11 But I do think it will honour a future for our young people by saying that we matter.
