00:00 Sadly, I've had to track this cat, not because I wanted to, but because I'm forced to, because
00:05 there's so many of them in our neighbourhood at the moment.
00:08 They're not collared, they don't seem to be owned, they're scavenging for food, they're
00:13 killing local wildlife, especially birds.
00:17 We came home from holidays last week and there was eight of them, all of about the same age,
00:22 just covering the backyard.
00:24 I can no longer grow my vegetables because the soil isn't healthy.
00:28 The people opposite can't leave their sandpit for their children uncovered because it's
00:34 used as a toilet.
00:35 The lady up the road is complaining she can't hang her sheets if she's not home because
00:39 the cats climb up them to access the roof.
00:43 And the list and the list of the impact of what these cats are doing to our neighbourhood
00:47 is just growing.
00:49 The problem is no one's responsible to manage the feral cat population in Canberra.
00:56 Domestic services is only responsible for domestic cats.
00:59 Rangers are only responsible for cats and dogs that are on public reserves or national
01:05 parks.
01:06 And there's a big hole and gap in the system and the problem is just growing out of control.
