00:00 I'm Laurie Blake, welcome to the WrestleTalk News, on Fridays we wear pink.
00:11 And it's happy International Women's Day!
00:15 There's reportedly a sad time for the women's divisions on both sides of the wrestling
00:35 aisle with backstage unrest in both WWE and AEW.
00:38 We're going to start with the Fed as WRKDRW on Twitter, I'm not calling it X, have claimed
00:44 that there are growing frustrations backstage in WWE regarding the handling of the women's
00:48 division.
00:49 This comes amid fan outrage that Becky Lynch vs Trish Stratus was pulled from the Summerslam
00:53 card despite both women being healthy and available for the match and Women's World
00:58 Champion Rhea Ripley not being booked for the show.
01:01 So what, now we don't get to see mommy on the weekends?
01:05 What is this?
01:06 My childhood?
01:07 Becky Lynch posted some images to Instagram that she had taken as part of the press for
01:10 the show with the caption "This was the shoot I did for Summerslam...".
01:15 We all know you only use dot dot dot for a dramatic pause when you're going to continue
01:19 saying stuff and show it when you think something is a load of crap.
01:23 And before you get on my case that I only care about what the man thinks in this situation
01:28 of WWE women's division turmoil, Rhea Ripley also posted a reply to WWE PR's Twitter post
01:33 about her Summerslam glam, noting that it should be "Summerslam media appearance look
01:39 for reasons we all know of".
01:42 Those reasons reportedly being timing related according to Dave Meltzer who said that time
01:46 restraints are the major reason matches are being pulled from the show.
01:50 But funnily enough it's two women's matches having been pulled from the show and not the
01:54 men's ones.
01:55 Headline: Dynamite Calls For A Women's Division Match
01:56 Over the fence at AEW they've got their own issues, firstly with signage making a prominent
01:59 appearance on Dynamite calling for the company to book the women's division better.
02:04 Admittedly the women's title match closed the 200th episode of Dynamite this week with
02:08 Hikaru Shida walking out as the new champion.
02:11 Small steps.
02:12 But all is seemingly not as it would outwardly appear as the company has also come under
02:16 fire from independent scene veteran Lufisto who worked for the company briefly and said
02:21 that some women had too much power backstage and trash talked newcomers in the locker room
02:26 calling the whole thing a toxic environment.
02:30 She also implied that someone had used their backstage influence to keep her out of AEW
02:34 which many people speculated was Britt Baker as rumours had also pointed to a backstage
02:39 rift between the two of them.
02:41 But then sources close to Wrestling Inc and Baker told them that Baker had no involvement
02:45 with keeping Lufisto out of AEW.
02:49 But Lu's issues didn't end there as she also detailed an awkward encounter with Ruby
02:53 Soho and Dustin Rhodes where it was claimed that Dustin referred to all French-Canadian
02:57 people as "assholes" backstage and criticised her after her match for AEW saying that she
03:03 had made the other women look bad.
03:06 Rhodes responded to the comments on Twitter saying that "sometimes as a coach I have
03:09 to be very honest and I won't tell you a lie about how good or bad it was.
03:15 Sometimes hard love comes out and I wouldn't have it any other way."
03:19 Hard love the title of your next AEW pay-per-view.
03:21 Rhodes also denied the French-Canadian bit to a fan saying he didn't say that.
03:26 And here I was, naively thinking that Barbie had solved this whole thing.
03:31 That's what I get for wearing pink I guess.
03:33 Before we crack on with the rest of the news I'm just going to hop in here and say that
03:36 you can head on over to PFK and watch the finale of me, Luke and Pete playing AEW Fight
03:40 Forever's Road to Elite mode right now.
03:43 It goes so horribly wrong.
03:47 Please watch it because we love making this series and we'd love to make more like it
03:51 with other wrestling games but we could only really do that if people watch them.
03:56 While we're on the topic of Tony Khan's women's division there is a rather large
03:59 Jade Cargill shaped hole in AEW at present, isn't there?
04:04 Because yes, despite many naturally expecting Cargill to continue that 60-0 momentum into
04:09 the AEW Women's World title scene following her loss of the TBS Championship at Double
04:13 or Nothing, Jade has instead vanished.
04:15 However, what at first seemed like a bit of time off has now turned into serious questions
04:20 whether the 31-year-old will in fact return to AEW at all.
04:25 This has largely stemmed from Cargill's extremely non-committal tweets regarding an
04:30 AEW return and pro wrestling in general.
04:33 The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer then added to this by claiming that Cargill was
04:36 not expected back in AEW any time soon.
04:40 So what's the actual situation?
04:45 Speaking to PWInsider's Mike Johnson, AEW President Tony Khan said Jade is still with
04:49 the company and has just been taking a sabbatical since losing her TBS title.
04:54 Khan would then add that he couldn't say for certain what anybody is going to do in
04:57 the future, but "certainly we value Jade and everything she's done here."
05:01 For what it's worth, Cargill has continued to do a lot of retweeting of Tony Khan and
05:05 AEW roster tweets, so it seems likely a return will in fact come at some point.
05:09 You would imagine.
05:10 No bad blood there.
05:11 Moving over to AEW's newest arrival now that there have been some fresh details on
05:15 what we can expect from Mr. Rob Van Dam, following his appearance on this week's Dynamite.
05:21 As we know that RBD is going to be stepping into the ring for an FTW Rules match on next
05:25 Wednesday's show against Jack Perry, but now that Rob is Mr. Wednesday Night, what
05:29 can we expect from him going forward?
05:32 Nothing.
05:33 Nada.
05:34 Nothing is the answer.
05:36 Because yes, similar to the fleeting appearance of Rob's fellow ECW alumni Sabu, it looks
05:41 like the whole effing show is looking set for a one and done with AEW.
05:46 As PWInsider is reporting that the Hall of Famer is only due for this one match with
05:50 Perry and nothing else.
05:52 Despite these short term plans, the appearance of RVD in AEW has reportedly been discussed
05:57 for a wee while according to Fightful Select.
05:59 What was supposedly holding up the whole debut was the clearing of the license to use Walk
06:03 by Pantera for RVD's entrance music.
06:06 You ought to admire the appreciation for nostalgic pro wrestling theme music.
06:12 Tony Khan's deep pockets in buying all those songs.
06:15 Despite Rob showing up in AEW, PWInsider is interestingly reporting that he is also advertised
06:20 for WWE's WrestleMania 40 weekend packages in Philadelphia, which of course is the home
06:27 of ECW.
06:28 While RVD may end up appearing in AEW and WWE in the next year, one act that will not
06:34 do both is The Elite.
06:36 The.
06:37 The.
06:38 Elite.
06:39 The.
06:40 Elite.
06:41 The.
06:42 The.
06:43 Elite.
06:44 Because yes, with Nick and Matt Jackson, Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page all re-signing,
06:45 and the dotted lining for AEW, any and all WWE speculation has now been bedeaded.
06:51 It's been deaded.
06:52 But how close were the former Bullet Club boys from crossing over the battle lines after
06:57 all?
06:58 According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the four men went back and forth on
07:01 the decision, but one thing that was for certain is that they would all be sticking together
07:05 whether that was in AEW or WWE.
07:08 Meltzer continued that they actually conducted a "majority rules" pact on the decision,
07:12 which clearly went the way of them landing on staying with AEW.
07:17 While WWE were reported to have interest in all members of The Elite, there was particular
07:20 interest in Stanford for obviously Kenneth Omega, one of the best wrestlers in the world.
07:25 With Meltzer saying WWE did have interest in all of them, especially Omega.
07:30 They had great interest in Omega in particular.
07:33 As for the length of the deals, Meltzer was a little less sure, with the exact number
07:37 of years supposed to be a secret.
07:39 However Meltzer had heard that it could be as many as four years.
07:53 While WWE have to contend without The Elite on their books, they do of course have more
07:56 than enough talent to play with.
07:58 So many they can't fit them all on Summerslam.
08:00 While we've already discussed all the women that were cut from the Summerslam card, of
08:03 course there is a member of the male roster that may be sneaking back into the fold come
08:07 tomorrow's show.
08:08 The man in question is former NXT Champion Bobby Roode, who has been out of action for
08:14 well over a year now, undergoing serious neck surgery in late 2022.
08:19 While it had previously been reported earlier this year that the Roode boy was expected
08:22 to be out for quite some time, perhaps that may no longer be the case.
08:27 PWInsider is reporting that Roode has been spotted in Detroit just days before the biggest
08:32 party of the summer, so perhaps there could be another surprise come back on the cards.
08:37 Whether this will come to fruition remains to be seen, especially considering the severity
08:41 of Roode's neck problems and the recency of his surgery.
08:44 However if it did there is perhaps a perfect opportunity to reintroduce Roode courtesy
08:48 of the Slim Jim Battle Royal.
08:51 What's a Slim Jim?
08:53 But hey, how would you book Roode's return to WWE?
08:56 Let us know in the comments down below.
08:58 Speaking of Summerslam, the card for the show is now seemingly set in stone and it's pretty
09:02 dang solid, it has to be said.
09:04 Although that finalisation comes with its own disappointments because of the Rhea Ripley
09:08 vs Raquel Rodriguez and Trish Stratus vs Becky Lynch not making the card and the lack of
09:12 a stipulation for Cody vs Brock 3.
09:15 Because while there have been murmurs regarding WWE granting Cody the best early Christmas
09:19 gift ever in the form of a dog collar match, he just loves them, that unsurprisingly hasn't
09:25 happened.
09:26 With the match set to be the pair's third straight standard singles encounter.
09:29 But despite some form of stipulation being expected by fans, was it ever close to being
09:33 implemented by WWE?
09:35 According to Fightful Select, despite the speculation, there was never a stipulation
09:38 pitched or considered heavily by the WWE.
09:41 The dog collar match in particular was reportedly never on the cards, according to sources on
09:46 both sides.
09:47 Supposedly the limit of the whole stipulation idea was 'does this match need a stipulation?'
09:52 and it was agreed that it doesn't.
09:54 Something I disagreed with.
09:57 Did the third match need to happen?
09:59 Not necessarily.
10:00 But yeah, no dog collars, weapons or bleeding for Cody and Brock.
10:04 I think Cody specifically would be very upset by that.
10:08 Speaking of upset, we're going to tie up today's news in a little bow of anger as
10:13 we once again return to another disgruntled talent in the WWE locker room.
10:17 This particular talent however has not been shy at all lately inventing his frustrations.
10:21 I am of course talking about Sheamus, who had plenty to say prior to Money in the Bank
10:27 regarding his lack of a match on the card and now ahead of Summerslam he's been at
10:31 it once again.
10:32 Despite actually having a match on August 5th at the aforementioned Slim Jim Battle
10:36 Royale, Sheamus still carries a little bit of resentment regarding WWE's booking of
10:40 him ever since his banger with Gunther at Clash at the Castle.
10:44 Speaking to the Daily Star, the Celtic Warrior revealed that he was upset regarding WWE not
10:48 capitalising on the momentum he had following his war with the Ring General.
10:53 Sheamus said "I came out of that with so much organic momentum and it was just wasted.
10:59 It didn't go anywhere.
11:00 It was a dead end, just like with WrestleMania.
11:03 Drew went away because he was injured, but I was ready to go and then just nothing.
11:08 There were no avenues and nowhere to go and that's frustrating."
11:13 Sheamus even went on to call the War Games match at Survivor Series 2022 "s***",
11:18 clearly feeling he could have been positioned for more.
11:20 Just don't let Vince hear that or War Games will be dead forever.
11:26 It was good.
11:28 We all loved it.
11:30 We can definitely see Sheamus' point though, it really did feel like they were perhaps
11:33 going to potentially book him in a major Roman Reigns title angle post-Clash, but that just
11:38 never materialised.
11:39 Come on WWE, throw him out of the boat and have him be the one to dethrone Gunther after
11:44 the record.
11:45 I don't know how Sheamus can do that.
