00:00 The governor of Bulacan blames the water from Ipo and Bustos Dam for flooding in the province.
00:06 But the local authorities say that the water volume did not come from the dams.
00:10 Instead, it came from the rain that fell on the past few days in Bulacan, Pampanga and Nueva Ecija,
00:16 which is equivalent to more than a million Olympic-sized swimming pools.
00:20 Lei Alvis has a report.
00:24 A week of flooding in Apalit, Pampanga, has left some residents in shock.
00:30 In the past few years, only two barangays have been flooded in Apalit,
00:35 including Barangay Paligi.
00:38 But now, 11 out of 12 barangays have been flooded.
00:42 The last time this happened was during the Ondoy Parau flood.
00:49 In the town of San Simon, sandbags were placed to stop the flood.
00:54 According to the NLEX, they also pumped the sandbags,
00:58 so the water slowly decreased due to the flood, alipunga and leptospirosis.
01:04 It's very bad. It's not stopping. It's not a medicine.
01:08 The barangay called for medicine.
01:10 For example, we cannot avoid flooding.
01:15 We need to go home and dry our clothes.
01:19 Some people say that they need to rest,
01:22 they need to take a bath, they cannot take a bath right away.
01:26 Until this afternoon, 10 more barangays in Bulacan were flooded.
01:30 Governor Daniel Fernando blames the wide flooding in the province
01:34 for the water from Ipo and Bustos Dam.
01:38 He also said that the Bustos Dam's Gate 5 was also damaged.
01:40 What if something suddenly came?
01:42 It's even worse. It's scary because when the gates opened, the whole area was submerged.
01:48 Even if it's not damaged, it cannot stop the water that is coming.
01:54 We should ask if the drainage is okay.
01:57 According to the NLEX, the water from Ipo and Bustos Dam should be removed.
02:02 It's already flooding.
02:04 The water inside the reservoir is getting heavier.
02:09 If it's damaged, we will have more problems.
02:13 The water released from the two dams from July 27 to August 4
02:18 can fill more than 11,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
02:22 But the large volume of rain in Bulacan did not come from the Bustos Dam,
02:27 but from the heavy rain.
02:29 That much can fill more than 1 million Olympic-sized swimming pools,
02:33 far from the volume released by the dam.
02:36 That's a problem in Bulacan or Pampanga, where the catch basin is lower,
02:40 so the water is leaking.
02:42 The long-term solution of the NIA in Baja, Bulacan is to build a new dam.
02:47 Leigh Alviz reports for Jime Integrated News.
