First time cat mom is in awe of her kitty
Transcript
00:00 Someone asked me, "Do you think of her as your child?"
00:02 She's fixated.
00:03 And I was like, "I don't know if cat people
00:05 "see their cats as their child.
00:07 "They're too independent for that.
00:09 "Like we're closer than roommates, you know?"
00:12 Maybe I'm like the cool aunt or something.
00:14 Sorry, don't use that, that was lame.
00:16 Wee!
00:16 I'm Michelle Humphrey,
00:18 and this is Rose's story for GeoBeats.
00:20 Cat.
00:21 The rescue service said that they found her
00:23 and her three boy siblings in a box in a park in Houston.
00:27 They just assumed that someone had dumped them.
00:29 I knew I always wanted a cat.
00:31 Once I saw her picture of her sweet face
00:33 and the way she was described in the profile,
00:35 I was pretty smitten.
00:37 I got her in March 2020,
00:39 right as the world was shutting down.
00:41 Rosie.
00:42 I had chosen to hunker down at my family's home,
00:44 and I was home all the time, working from home.
00:47 Oh, there you are!
00:49 (laughing)
00:51 So she got the full attention of the whole family
00:54 and the family dog.
00:55 Oh!
00:58 She kinda acts like a dog.
01:00 Maybe that's where she learned a little bit of it.
01:02 Mitch, get in the box.
01:04 Good girl.
01:06 Good morning, Rosie.
01:08 I knew we were bonded
01:09 when she snuggled in the bed at night.
01:11 Rosie, did you tuck yourself in?
01:13 Hi, Rosie.
01:14 She just cuddled right in at my neck and started purring,
01:16 and I thought, oh, this is my cat.
01:18 Like, I can't believe she's mine.
01:20 (purring)
01:23 Who's that?
01:23 She was so curious.
01:24 I would say that's one of her defining characteristics.
01:27 Thanks for the help.
01:28 She would investigate every nook and cranny of the house
01:32 and trying to open cabinets.
01:34 You can't.
01:36 It's too high.
01:37 And trying to just snip and smell
01:39 and take in every bit of the home.
01:40 Rosie.
01:42 When I adopted her, I had no mental grid
01:44 for having a cat that wanted to be outdoors.
01:47 (meowing)
01:48 But with Rosie, she showed interest
01:51 in wanting to go outside as a kitten.
01:53 All right, here we go.
01:54 And so I figured out how to leash train her
01:56 and make sure she knew how to swim
01:58 in case she fell in a swimming pool.
02:00 Rosie, do you think you're an outdoor cat?
02:02 (meowing)
02:03 She just loves going outside.
02:05 That's our daily routine.
02:06 Good girl, Rosie.
02:07 Rosie.
02:08 We go play in the yard.
02:09 I give her treats.
02:11 Hi.
02:12 There's not a ton of disciplining you can do for cats,
02:14 aside from I give her a little squirt of the water bottle
02:16 when she gets on the dining table.
02:18 That's her only no-go zone 'cause it's gross.
02:20 Hello.
02:21 She really gives me that zest for,
02:23 okay, every day is a new day.
02:25 (meowing)
02:27 You wanna go outside?
02:28 She's always chattering, like always at the back door.
02:32 If I don't let her out, she'll be like,
02:34 "Meow, meow, meow."
02:35 Sorry, I don't use that either.
02:36 It's so insane.
02:38 Well, apparently there's like how to speak cat
02:41 and I've tried a few of them and they work.
02:43 It's like, "Meow, meow."
02:45 Like all the different types of meows.
02:47 She's like a little kid who's like,
02:49 "I'm mad, but I'll still eat this meat."
02:51 Rosie has a perpetually cute kitten face
02:54 that I hope she never grows out of.
02:55 She's just got such a unique little personality
02:58 that I really couldn't live life without her anymore.
03:02 All right, ready?
03:05 (meowing)
03:08 (upbeat music)
03:10 (upbeat music)
03:13 (upbeat music)
