00:10 Since the beginning of time, man has created great civilizations which have
00:22 come and gone.
00:23 But one thing has stood the test of time for millennia, the martial arts.
00:29 A lot of people have sort of a misconception about martial arts.
00:33 A lot of people think martial arts, okay, it's all about fighting.
00:35 But martial arts offers a lot more than that.
00:37 >> My perception of martial arts is split into what I perceive to be two halves,
00:44 yin and yang.
00:44 [MUSIC]
00:48 >> I went blind and had to start my life again.
00:52 And met a kung fu master who said his system was so
00:56 effective that even a blind man could do it.
01:00 The more we discover about ourselves and our own conscious understanding of our
01:04 place in everything, the more we discover about everything around us.
01:08 >> My understanding of the spiritual inspiration of martial arts comes
01:13 from the necessity for us to find purpose and
01:17 reason beyond being driven by the survival instinct.
01:20 >> Martial arts assist you in accomplishing the master from within.
01:25 >> I just love my daughters to bits, so
01:27 I'm kind of very mumsy figure as well as a fighter.
01:31 >> There are so many things that I learned along that rocky road to the gold.
01:34 One of them is about not giving up.
01:37 >> Sky's the limit.
01:37 It's one of those cliche things.
01:40 Believe, believe, believe.
01:41 Believe in yourself and have faith.
01:43 >> The spiritual nature of martial arts is being a calm soul.
01:47 >> In China, between master and
01:49 students, our relationship is really, really close and very special.
01:54 >> There's a lot of times you need to suddenly pull down, focus intensely so
01:59 that you can do a really good job.
02:01 And it's the martial arts concentration that's really helped me do that.
02:04 >> There are quite a lot of similarities between martial arts and
02:07 belly dancing, like snake energy, animal movements.
02:10 >> I do believe in yin and yang, and dark and light, and the flow, and nature,
02:15 the natural way.
02:16 I find that true martial artists are in tune with that.
02:19 >> So I began to see how these fundamentals underlie all movement.
02:25 >> Within the movement, you're trying to feel and
02:27 replicate the spiral that is in all life.
02:30 The spiral of the galaxy, the pulsing of each atom, and
02:33 you're trying to feel that within your movement.
02:35 >> Every particle inside the cells of your body is constantly in
02:40 communication with every other particle around you.
02:43 >> We're all part of the same soul.
02:45 Everything we do has an effect on each other.
02:47 We're all connected.
02:48 >> Enlightenment, that is the ultimate goal.
