00:10 >> Win a Super Bowl, that's why I continue to play.
00:27 Really, that's it, man, just keep having fun.
00:31 I love the game and just take this defense,
00:36 take this team to another level, that's my goal.
00:38 >> One of the things I think we've been pointing out since we've heard is
00:44 creating turnovers.
00:46 >> Yeah.
00:46 >> How much have you heard about that from Coach Woods?
00:50 Are y'all doing more big ball drills or anything like that to get the size up?
00:55 >> Yeah, we've been doing more ball drills.
00:58 Even after practice, we'll get together and do ball drills if y'all see us out
01:02 there, just catching the ball more.
01:03 Cuz at DB, it's different than a receiver.
01:06 Receiver knows where the ball's gonna be at.
01:09 DB, you get lucky if you get a good break, and now the ball's here and
01:13 you're coming full speed at it.
01:14 So it's a little different, it's a little harder, but
01:17 that's what we're just focusing on.
01:18 And we have a little highlight tape that Coach Woods showed us that
01:24 just showed that if we just caught the ones that came to us,
01:27 then we'd be up there with the top.
01:29 So we're just focused on that.
01:30 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:40 >> He's raised more experience, he's very detailed.
01:46 I played with him in Denver when we won the Super Bowl, and
01:49 I saw the impact he had on us then.
01:52 And I love the impact he's having on us now.
01:55 He's one of those coaches that leaves no stone unturned.
01:58 He's gonna make a comment on every single position, every single play.
02:01 And that's what it's about, attention to detail,
02:06 cuz that's the only thing that really separates guys on this level, so.
02:09 >> I've heard him describe as a player,
02:12 but what was it something that just plays well with him?
02:16 >> Yeah, I mean, I mean, he just really just said the stuff that he said,
02:22 he set the standard early.
02:23 He's gonna be very detailed in meetings, and he's gonna hold you to a standard.
02:28 And if you're a player that doesn't like that,
02:30 then I mean you shouldn't be playing football.
02:32 At the end of the day, he wants the best for you.
02:35 So I don't know about players, Coach, he's just a good coach to me.
02:37 >> What does he stand out in a long day's game?
02:41 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:44 >> He's good athletically, he's long, and he loves to play football.
02:50 He's a great athlete, and he's down to learn, and he's ready to make plays, so.
02:56 >> [INAUDIBLE]
03:06 >> Yeah, I played against Derek a lot.
03:09 I think he's getting the system down pretty good.
03:15 He's spreading the ball around.
03:17 He's not throwing that many interceptions.
03:20 I'm not sure how many he's throwing at all this camp.
03:22 That's a good thing.
03:23 As long as we have enough weapons, as long as we throw it to our guys,
03:26 that's all that matters.
03:27 So that's a good thing.
03:29 He's not giving us too many opportunities to get the ball.
03:32 And that's all I care about, the quarterback.
03:34 >> In your experience having a matchup with him,
03:36 what is it that he does that makes things challenging for a defense?
03:41 >> He extends the play.
03:42 You wouldn't think he's that fast, but he can move the ball.
03:46 He's good throwing the ball on the run.
03:49 And I think he's smart.
03:51 Every time I'm getting down to blitz, he's always calling it out.
03:53 It's like, damn, I cannot trick this man.
03:56 So that's what you want.
03:57 Play with Peyton, and that's the type of things he did.
04:00 You know everything you're gonna do before you do it.
04:03 And that's what you want.
04:05 >> What can y'all do to make things more challenging for him?
04:10 >> Just be consistent with our disguises and
04:12 make sure that everything looks the same.
04:15 So he won't know if it's a blitz or if I'm a man from the zone.
04:19 So really just being disciplined in that aspect and
04:21 not getting all happy when you get a blitz and itching and forward and stuff.
04:25 So it's great because it's game like,
04:28 other quarterbacks in the league are gonna see that as well.
04:30 So just getting us ready for the games.
04:32 >> Having that level of precision that he can pick up on,
04:37 does that help kind of boost where he's going?
04:39 >> Definitely, because if he keeps calling you out,
04:41 then you gotta do something different.
04:43 So like I said, it makes you more disciplined and
04:47 showing the same look every play and really trying to think of different ways.
04:51 I've been thinking of different moves like, I like a little blitz, fake, and
04:55 then come back.
04:56 I got more time on that.
04:57 So it makes you expand your arsenal of weapons.
05:01 >> [INAUDIBLE]
05:10 >> Yeah, Joe Woods, he always got the horse blinders out.
05:13 He was doing that in Denver.
05:15 Cuz the thing about DB is, is playing with good eyes.
05:19 Everyone thinks about athleticism, man.
05:22 He's 6'5" and he's 4'3", but it's really just a discipline of
05:26 looking in the right place, playing the right leverage.
05:28 And it's really the simple things, the fundamentals.
05:32 And it seems silly or whatever, but when you think about it,
05:36 that's all that really matters.
05:37 And if you do that, you'll be in position to make plays.
05:40 So where your athleticism can then take over.
05:43 So it's just a good little wrinkle for him,
05:45 and just a mental note to remember to play with the eyes.
05:48 >> How quickly does that translate, having those goggles versus not having them,
05:53 where you feel the impact or effect of working with them?
05:56 >> It's instantly, because when you put them on,
05:58 you can't see anything on the outside.
06:01 So you're bumping into guys or whatever.
06:03 But then as soon as you take them off, you're like, okay, it just reminds you at
06:07 DB, there's a lot of things you could look at, but if you just zone in on what
06:10 you're supposed to look at on each play, you'll be where you need to be.
06:13 So it's instantaneous.
06:15 We don't do it all the time, but the days that we do it, it works.
06:19 >> Is the consistency of reps you're getting in the nickel,
06:21 has that made a difference?
06:23 I know you've played that a lot before, but
06:24 consistency key and OTAs when you can't play the game.
06:29 >> Yeah, this is the first year that I've really been just focusing on that this
06:33 year.
06:34 The first two years I've been here, I've been outside, inside,
06:37 I've played outside as well.
06:38 But I feel like last year, those last probably seven,
06:42 eight games, I really focused on the nickel.
06:45 And I did pretty well.
06:47 So just locking in on that and just, cuz it's like run fits and run gaps.
06:53 And if this, then that, there's a lot of thinking going on and
06:57 a lot of checking and stuff like that.
06:58 So just another season of just solely locking in on that's gonna help for sure.
07:02 >> Brandon, what's it like to play with Marshawn?
07:06 And what's he feel like in his form lately?
07:09 >> It's dope, man, cuz we went to the same college.
07:11 I was leaving when he was coming in.
07:13 And it's just a great feeling.
07:17 He's like a brother to me, like a little brother to me.
07:20 And it's great because with my experience,
07:26 I can help him in certain things that he's already at the top of his game.
07:32 And continues, but everyone has things to work on.
07:36 And I like that he's open to me helping him and
07:42 showing him some different tools, maybe some different techniques he can do at
07:45 the line or just things he can think about.
07:47 So it's very good.
07:50 I'm glad that we're together on this team, along with the other Ohio State guys.
07:55 And from my knowledge and just from my experience,
07:58 that's when a secondary really comes together and
08:00 dominates when you're like brothers out there.
08:02 And we're connected with Tyron and May and Debo and Alante.
08:07 So we're just all jelling.
08:08 And from my knowledge and my experience,
08:11 that's what you need to take it to the next level.
08:14 So it's great that we're able to play together.
08:16 >> Have you noticed a leap in May and Matthew in particular,
08:20 just having another, having a full year in the system now, going into the second?
08:24 >> Yeah, definitely, just more comfortability with the system.
08:26 We all know generally what's expected of us.
08:30 What positions we're gonna be put in.
08:31 And I think it's more of just the personal, the off the field.
08:35 We hung out a little bit off the field with each other.
08:38 We talked to each other, group texts and stuff like that.
08:42 That camaraderie, that's what you need to go to the next level.
08:46 And we were okay last year, statistically wise, but we wanna be the top.
08:52 And it takes a group of brothers that push each other and
08:57 have a standard towards each other and don't mind it.
09:00 If I'm slacking one day, Marshawn get on me or
09:03 Tyron say something or May slacking.
09:05 That's what you need and to push each other.
09:08 And then with the plays as well, if Adibu makes a great play,
09:12 then somebody else wants to make a great play.
09:15 And we all wanna make great plays and that's when you really become the best.
09:19 >> I hear a lot about the quarterbacks and
09:20 pass makers working away somewhere during the off season.
09:23 In my experience, does that sometimes make defensive players fun with you too?
09:29 >> Not really, I mean, it's more about when you're together here.
09:33 Cuz quarterback and receivers all about timing and
09:36 they got a brown nose a little bit.
09:39 >> [LAUGH] >> Act like they're best friends and
09:41 stuff just to get the ball.
09:42 It's more dependent on the quarterback, so
09:45 I think that's why they do that in this time and wise.
09:48 But defense, you know who you're gonna be out there with.
09:50 As long as you are willing to work out with them and
09:54 communicate with them and push each other.
09:57 I think that's enough time to get that in camp.
10:01 But I think in the off season, we talked a lot over the phone or
10:05 through Instagram or something like that.
10:06 So that I think is key as well.
10:08 >> When you seen Michael Thomas in the way back?
10:13 >> He's working, man.
10:14 He's grinding every day.
10:15 He's grinding every day.
10:16 He's been out for a long time.
10:18 And in the beginning, a camp is never gonna look perfect.
10:23 You know what I'm saying?
10:24 Even in the beginning of the season, it's never gonna look perfect.
10:26 The only thing that matters is those last December, November, January.
10:31 So I think he's just on a steady uphill climb.
10:34 It's an uphill spiral.
10:35 You know, the uphill spiral.
10:37 And as long as he keeps doing that, I think that's all that matters and
10:40 he'll get back to top shape.
