Can Trump Be Trusted with Evidence in His Trial?

  • last year
Former President Donald Trump's lawyer, John Lauro, criticized the protective order requested by prosecutors in the 2020 election subversion case that would impose restrictions on what Trump and his legal team can do with the evidence shared with them. Lauro argued that the press and the American people have a right to know the evidence in the case, as long as it is not protected otherwise. US District Judge Tanya Chutkan denied a request from Trump's legal team for an extension to respond to the protective order, and they must now respond to the Justice Department's proposal by Monday afternoon. Prosecutors are seeking to restrict Trump's access and dissemination of sensitive evidence, such as witness interviews, arguing that his public statements could potentially harm witnesses and compromise the fair administration of justice.
