00:00 In the flood-ravaged Chinese city of Zhejiang, local residents are returning home to take
00:06 stock of the damage done to their homes and livelihoods.
00:11 Li Yujie owns a hardware store in the area. She returned home to find her shop inundated
00:17 by mud and debris, rendering most of her stock unsellable.
00:24 She says she feels overwhelmed and that it's going to be impossible to clean up.
00:29 Nearby, this local resident described a similar scene at his home.
00:34 "As soon as I entered the house, there was over a foot of mud. All the furniture was
00:40 ruined, completely soaked by flood water. I estimated the water level to be as high
00:44 as me, five foot nine. That's how high the water was inside the house. The yard is filled
00:50 with a terrible stench, and along the way houses have collapsed."
00:55 North-eastern China, Beijing and Hebei province have seen heavy rainfall and floods since
01:01 Typhoon Dok Zhori made landfall in southern China two weeks ago.
01:05 Fourteen people were reported to have died over the weekend in the Chinese city of Shulan.
01:11 State media showed footage of the city completely inundated in flood water. Supplies were being
01:16 delivered to residents via helicopter, and desperate residents were being carried to
01:21 safety on the backs of emergency workers.
01:24 The deaths in Shulan in north-eastern Jilin province add to the more than 20 who died
01:29 last week in Beijing and Hebei.
01:32 Authorities have yet to provide an overall death toll for the entire country, but the
01:36 record-breaking rains have disrupted the lives of millions.
01:40 China on Sunday allocated an additional $48.8 million to support rescues and house repairs
01:48 in the flood-hit regions.
