A woman who sees colours, textures and shapes when she hears sounds PAINTS her experiences – and says Harry Styles’ voice looks like emerald green speckles of magic.

Sarah Kraning, 30, has experienced visuals with sounds for as long as she can remember but was only diagnosed with synesthesia aged 22.

Sound-to-colour synesthesia is a rare condition where sound evokes an experience of colour, shape or movement.

00:00 accents look different. French for some reason looks like the texture of wheatgrass. German
00:07 has like a chunky texture like almost like potato soup. Hi my name is Sarah Kroening and I am an
00:13 abstract artist with synesthesia. Synesthesia is a crossing of the senses. For me it was hereditary
00:20 so I was born with it and for me I have a crossing of sound and color patterns and textures so I have
00:29 sound to color synesthesia. This means that whenever I hear a sound whether it's a dog
00:33 barking or a person's voice or a piece of music I experience vivid colors and movement and shapes
00:42 and texture and I channel these into my paintings. I try to create paintings that express what I see
00:48 when I experience sound and to me my artwork is a celebration of the beauty of sound and
00:53 specifically music.
