00:00 The amount of investment that goes into starting a modern farm can be substantial, especially
00:09 when compared to a non-agricultural business or startup.
00:13 That's why Terence Glenn believes it is crucial for farm to follow function.
00:19 One of the main things that we try to do is to make it sustainable and to make it, as
00:23 they say, regenerative.
00:25 It is intercropping and using techniques that improve the quality of the land over time
00:30 rather than deplete it.
00:31 So this is really to help the farmers plan so that they can get a proper yield for the
00:36 inputs that they put in it.
00:38 For the last decade, Terence, through his agricultural consultancy company Terra Pharma,
00:43 has been developing ways for farmers to improve their yield through industry intelligence
00:48 as he continues to see common mistakes being made.
00:51 One thing that farmers don't do very well up to now is staggering the crop cycles.
00:59 So to be successful in farming, you must be able to produce a certain amount monthly so
01:05 that you can have an ongoing contract.
01:08 A lot of farmers, they plant with the seasons.
01:10 Speaking at one of his projects in Buenos Aires, he said farmers must now be positioned
01:16 to also make positive impacts on the environment.
01:19 For Terence, climate change communication and efforts to reduce climate-related risks
01:25 are key to the future of the industry.
01:27 One of the things that's happening right now is with higher carbon dioxide concentrations,
01:33 you get higher acid concentrations in the soil.
01:37 That locks up a lot of the nutrients.
01:39 Now when you have crops out in the fields, a lot of damage is being done by direct sunlight,
01:45 especially when you have no cover overhead, no kind of cloud cover.
01:49 So for us, we provide something like a sunblock.
01:55 Meanwhile, the award-winning manufacturer and advocate for green foods and sustainable
02:00 farming said the pandemic has reignited interest in the sector.
02:04 For the last few months, there was a kind of upsurge in the amount of interest in farming
02:09 because I guess people at home didn't have as much job security and even in terms of
02:16 food security.
02:18 So in order to, I guess, make sure they could provide for themselves and their families,
02:22 a lot of people started going into it.
02:25 The agricultural problem solver is hopeful that upcoming small, medium and large-scale
02:29 farmers access and utilize the resources now readily available to accelerate their production
02:36 and improve operations.
