00:02 - Crystal Manswell is armed to farm.
00:09 - I am the founder, aka the general of the Green Army.
00:13 So what we do is that we, with this community garden,
00:16 we are creating a cycle of sustainable,
00:20 basically a sustainable ecosystem
00:24 where we are regenerating recycled waste
00:27 into resources that we use now to feed the less fortunate
00:30 and the elderly in the community.
00:32 - At the Eco Food Park in Lahocata,
00:34 the general, along with her young batch of soldiers,
00:37 have taken up the fight to improve both agricultural
00:40 and environmental sustainability.
00:42 - We are now regenerating it,
00:48 and it's helping to build the soil.
00:51 When you mulch with grass clippings,
00:53 it's actually reducing the amount of evaporation,
00:56 so you're getting to save water as well.
00:58 So it's a lot of benefits for regenerating organic waste
01:02 in terms of just helping with the environment,
01:04 but you're also using less chemicals,
01:08 which has a lot of toxic impact and stuff like that
01:10 with your own health.
01:12 - Manswell believes key to the Green Army's
01:14 successful mission is youth participation.
01:17 - We're in phase two, Lahocata.
01:20 You know, many would perceive this area
01:21 as a repressed community, but we are not saying that.
01:24 We are positive youths that are making a positive impact
01:28 on the community, starting with this community garden,
01:31 where we collect signatures and army soldiers, basically,
01:36 who are championing for the environment.
01:38 - As the Green Army marches
01:40 towards climate-conscious food production,
01:42 no one is being left behind.
01:44 - Okay, no problem.
01:47 - Jesse Ramdeo, CNC3 News.
