Fire in historic Midlands pub treated as arson

  • last year
A fire which destroyed a historic pub in the West Midlands is now being treated as arson. The Crooked House was badly damaged in a fire over the weekend, which officers now believe may have been started deliberately, while questions also remain over how the rest of the building came to be demolished a few days later. 00:00 I came down the lane and it wasn't there. I don't know what else to say. I'm gutted.
00:17 Not even a facade there, you can't even tell there was a building there really. I've got
00:21 a lot of happy memories here for the people I work with and the happy times I had here.
00:28 It's an integral part of Gornal and Dudley. We've got a lot to be proud of coming from
00:32 where we come from, but now part of that's been taken away from us. I'm hoping something
00:37 can be done about it. I'm hoping an investigation's going to be done and I'm hoping maybe it can
00:45 be rebuilt. I know it doesn't look as though it can, but I'm sure there's a company out
00:48 there somewhere that hopefully could maybe do something. Two weeks from when they bought
00:53 it and 48 hours to end up like this, then the fire's starting to be demolished. Nobody
01:03 got a chance to do anything. I can't believe it wasn't a listed building. I think everybody
01:08 in the local area thought it was, but apparently it wasn't. And why it wasn't, I don't know.
01:13 It's one of its kind.
01:36 Thank you.
