00:00 Exercise Malabar, the annual military drills involving the four nations of the Quad, is
00:07 now officially underway.
00:09 Overnight, we've spent some time here on HMAS Brisbane as she conducted live firing drills
00:15 off the coast of Sydney.
00:18 But over the next 10 days, the four nations participating in these annual military drills
00:23 will be in and around Sydney.
00:26 They'll also be down the coast in the eastern exercise area.
00:30 This morning, HMAS Brisbane led the other three nations' warships into Sydney Harbour,
00:36 a spectacular display.
00:38 This is the first time Australia has hosted Exercise Malabar, and for many years, Australia
00:44 was prevented from taking part after leaving in 2008.
00:50 So over the next 10 days, we'll see several high-level warfare drills being conducted
00:56 between the navies of India, Japan, the United States and Australia.
01:01 They'll involve ship defence, anti-submarine warfare and various exercises to improve interoperability
01:10 between the four Quad nations.
01:12 So the exercise, as I say, goes for 10 days, and for the first time, significantly, Australia
01:19 is hosting them.
