00:36 - Fishing for sharks is not completely
00:38 to the level of fishing for other fish.
00:40 They have a different life.
00:42 They live like mammals.
00:43 Some of them take up to 25 years for their reproduction.
00:46 And then some of them only have one pup every other year.
00:50 But they're certainly getting a lot of attention
00:51 because there are cases that are being wiped out
00:54 and they're only there.

01:05 - When I left school and started home schooling,
01:20 my grandmother was totally panicked.
01:22 She never really got involved diving with sharks.
01:27 And me, I was like, I had no idea what to expect.
01:30 I loved school, but I had a driving passion for ocean
01:34 and I thought I really needed to get out of that.
01:36 (dramatic music)
01:39 Before you can fight the shark and sharks,
01:53 you have to fight fear around them.
01:54 That fear is a huge thing.
01:59 (dramatic music)
02:02 I have never felt this fear of sharks.
02:13 But when I see what it has done,
02:14 (dramatic music)
02:17 I fear sharks in my opinion
02:21 is the greatest deception in history.
02:23 Sharks are not wild beasts,
02:26 they eat wildlife, they kill it.
02:27 (dramatic music)
02:30 Tiger sharks are my favorite shark.
02:34 They're described as great white.
02:36 They're big, they're beautiful, they're slow moving.
02:43 They are one of the sharks that you get in the water
02:47 and you feel their presence.
02:48 They're the sharks that you know you don't mess with.
02:52 I really love them for that.

02:59 This is a potentially dangerous animal.
03:02 And there's still so little danger to us.
03:05 It's really quite incredible.
03:07 Humans will attack anything they don't understand.
03:09 At this point of aggression, sharks are a good example.
03:13 But the other way around, when I go into their world,
03:15 I'm still covered with curiosity.
03:18 They have no way to get us.
03:19 (dramatic music)
03:25 There's nothing else in the ocean that compares to a shark.
03:28 And their interaction with humans is unique.
03:31 They're just extraordinary fish.
03:32 You have to look at them and think,
03:34 "It's amazing how crazy an animal like this exists."
03:37 (dramatic music)
03:39 For Madison, it's an opportunity to build a close relationship with the shark.
03:44 (dramatic music)
03:47 I love sharks like my family.
03:50 It's like messing around with the little brother
03:52 or the little sister that I never had.
