00:06 Inside the Superdome a lot of crazy action to talk about but of course before we get to that

00:38 Inside the Superdome look we had our first skirmish of practice. We saw some crazy catches. We saw some interceptions
00:46 We saw a whole bunch of things and look practice did get cut short, you know, Landon Young will start there
00:52 Got hurt at the end of practice. Look it was an awkward play. They were doing, you know, basically simulating end of game 40 seconds left
01:00 Had to move the length of the field
01:02 Well, not necessarily to feel but more like the 45 of the defense they had to get it into the end zone
01:07 second play or actually really I think is the first play because the the first one was
01:12 Due to was stopped because of a false start when Winston was under center Lynn Bowden jr
01:19 Jumped early, but the actual first play they ran is when?
01:22 Lady young got hurt went down
01:25 Didn't look good. I'll tell you that he was down for a few minutes, you know, he didn't end up getting carted off
01:30 He didn't I just clarify that but he ended up getting back to his feet walking did his Alan saying originally to MCL sprain
01:38 We'll see how that plays out. Those are tough
01:41 I mean, that's that's a tough one because he's a guy that was playing inside at guard playing a tackle a very
01:46 Favored guy to be a depth piece and you know, the Saints offensive line
01:51 They just can't take a can't afford to take more hits right and we've been talking about it
01:56 Just saying that you know, that's that's the problem
01:59 Going into a season is expecting 17 games out of your full complimentary a full complement of offensive line. Just doesn't happen
02:07 It's a rarity and especially when it comes to the Saints
02:09 So we'll keep an eye out there and as far as the tennis goes look nothing too crazy
02:14 but there are some some absences so Kiki Kuti was
02:18 Waved today and waved in place of Jalen Smith who was out and at practice wearing number 59 not expected to play
02:26 This weekend and unless it's like an emergency situation
02:30 But joining the team too new really to kind of grasp things, but you know, he was out at practice. Look I
02:37 Interested to see what happens there with him, you know makes it a little bit interesting as far as the linebacker room
02:43 So we'll see how that kind of pans out
02:45 You know other than that look you had Jimmy Graham Michael Thomas Ryan Ramchick on rest days the really only
02:52 Absence that's not injury-related. That's kind of new is Nick Salva very wasn't there today
02:57 So we'll have to see what happens for Sunday if he is gonna play and so again we talked about this offensive line depth
03:03 That's that's another one
03:05 I mean, this is a guy that can really move the depth chart and such but if he's not at practice and it's injury-related
03:11 I mean, he's already been out
03:13 Due to a calf. So it's just one of those things
03:16 You just got to obviously pay attention to and so look as far as practice goes
03:20 Good flow to it inside the Superdome
03:23 Look the new turf feels a little bit softer if that even makes sense the whole one
03:28 I don't know just felt a little bit hard when you stand on it like your feet start hurting a little bit more in
03:33 There maybe because it's new and they just laid it down. I thought it felt pretty good Superdome renovations there
03:38 We got to be in the new media press room, which looks outstanding
03:42 A lot of cool enhancements that's made. I've already seen people say man. We can actually hear the questions from reporters
03:47 That's a plus so we don't have to pass that mic around and stuff. But look a
03:52 Couple things that I'd say so we looked at they did the two-on-two drill again today
03:57 So basically what it is is you got the receivers about five to seven yards from the end zone and they're stacked on the side
04:03 Of each other and then you have two defensive backs and so you got rub route concepts
04:07 You got all sorts of picks that can happen just different types of routes that get ran
04:13 So I think for a couple of things to point out so Martin a tire Matthew had a really good reps in that
04:19 He had two past breakups that I charted Ryan Edwards had a touchdown
04:23 Chris Alave had a touched a couple of good catches and stuff
04:27 I had including a touchdown to really get things started
04:30 but I'll tell you Keith Kirkwood was probably it's probably one of the best catches I've ever seen and
04:36 I don't know. I can't do it justice. I wish I had video
04:40 And of course if you guys know we're not allowed to shoot the video, you know
04:44 It's a policy by the team that would have been a perfect one
04:47 It probably would have broke the internet. But look he ended up he was working out on working on that side
04:52 It was car was a quarterback
04:53 Going to that right end zone working his pulse on the Debo and it was back in the corner end zone
04:58 And he just puts up one hand. I mean, it's like Odell Beckham jr
05:02 I want you to picture to pick up one hand and just hauls it in with one hand for a touchdown
05:06 It was one of the best catches and easily the best catch of camp
05:10 One of the best catches I've seen in the past couple of years
05:13 I mean, this is really something and look Kirkwood is guy we keep talking about I keep talking about it and people think I'm crazy
05:19 But I think this guy has a spot on this roster if he keeps doing this type of work
05:23 Traequan's out with a groin Rashid's out with a groin. So he's got a chance to really shine Brian Edwards
05:29 Look, he's a guy that's picked it up, you know
05:32 I and I said it the other day and I wrote about it that he's just one that just has not had the camp that
05:37 We thought maybe he would have a little bit of struggles there, but he's come on in the past couple of days
05:41 So he's one that can improve his stock when it comes to the preseason
05:45 So we'll see but wide receiver battle interesting and I also find it interesting that Kuti got cut and they got John Trey Kirkland
05:52 One other one of these guys
05:54 I really want to see a lot more of because I think he's gonna add upside as a returner potentially
05:59 Lynn Bowden jr. Is a guy that I think is you know distance itself and made some pretty good plays here
06:04 But look that that two on two drill Edwards got a touchdown Washington got a touchdown
06:09 He got a couple past breakups by tiring Matthew good coverage from last March on Lattimore on one of them
06:15 Touchdown to a T Perry on a fade route. That was beautifully thrown by Jake Hainer
06:20 And so that was the first really good action. I saw as far as sevens look, you know, Derek Carr got picked off on his first play
06:27 He was going so give it some some insight. So basically and this is the charting, you know
06:34 Good luck trying to just do all that but like all the details on Saints dot media on on my recap or notes and observations
06:42 So be sure to check that out, but they do red zone seven on sevens
06:45 So they did the 15 yard line 9 yard line 6 yard line 4 yard line and 2 yard line and it went back to the 15
06:52 For car so his first pick 15 yard line for 15 yards out tried
06:56 Right end zone for Marshall online for Juwan Johnson Marshall. I don't makes a great play on the ball picks it off right there
07:04 One of the best he's having an outstanding excellent training camp
07:08 I don't need to see anything else more from Marshall on a lot of more and of course one of the other things that I
07:13 Point out if you haven't read that that piece that I put out
07:16 Regarding Mickey Loomis and Dennis Allen appearing on CRC XM and talking about Lattimore
07:21 Look, he's easily had the best training camp probably since he's been here
07:24 And so look he's really adapting and learning from Joe Woods Marcus Robertson making a better player
07:29 And that's a scary thought to have a really healthy and focused Marshall on line more
07:33 It can easily be one of the top corners in this league elite type talent. So really good to see from there
07:40 You know
07:42 Chris Lavey we keep talking about him every single day made a really good catch in the back of the end zone
07:47 His guys just I don't want to say he's unguardable
07:50 But you know, it's just that and that's not fair because people have guarded against him
07:55 But he is just such a polished route runner and some of the things that he just does that chemistry with car
08:01 We saw it in in team where it was a free play, you know, Brian Berset jumped offsides free play 44 yard touchdown
08:09 Car put a bullet perfect dime into the end zone for a lobby great throw perfect catch
08:16 Perfect hooked up hook up with Alante Taylor and coverage. I mean, these are the things you just love to see at this point
08:23 the chemistry between
08:26 Car and a lobby is better than anything. I think any with any other receiver skill player
08:33 You know better than Juwan Johnson better than Michael Thomas
08:35 And so we'll see if this keeps keeps on right because got the Chiefs coming to town
08:40 They're gonna play their starter some at least through the first quarter. The Saints are gonna play their starters Dennis Allen saying
08:45 Until I see enough from Derek Carr, he's gonna play and so I think they're gonna be smart with it one drive again
08:51 You see one drive with the touchdown. I think I've seen enough maybe max of 14 15 plays
08:56 Maybe two drives at most that sounds about right
08:59 But look that was a big highlight from sevens
09:02 with the you know, the
09:05 Redzone looks and look I'll give James Winston some love too because it's deservedly so he did a good job
09:12 Working the middle as far as you know, just extending a play went through his reads and progressions really well
09:19 Originally, he wanted Ellis Merriweather on a route out of the backfield
09:22 But he stays with it goes through his reads and progressions hits Foster more over the middle for a five-yard touchdown
09:27 In front of Anthony or II and so I think that's one of the things I think James is gonna be able to
09:33 Really showcase a lot in this preseason
09:36 I don't know for the point where we'd say a team that needs a quarterback would trade for him
09:41 I know kind of floated that idea
09:43 Months ago that that could possibly happen. I don't know that Hainer's there yet for that to happen
09:48 I think Winston again best backup insurance policy that this team could have for Derek Carr
09:53 So we'll see what happens there and then Hainer hit a couple touchdowns
09:58 One to Merriweather and then a really nice one to a T Perry. So I really think Perry's coming along a lot more
10:05 kind of off and on in minicamp OTAs and start a training camp, but I think he's learning and adapting well and
10:12 Definitely think it's a lot to do with Cody Burns and just playing with a lot of confidence to just getting some teaching from some
10:18 Of these other veterans in the room. It really helped out a lot
10:21 but we kind of mentioned the play big play to love a but let's talk about the the dust up or the fight because
10:28 That's probably gonna take center stage. So came in team
10:31 Just a few plays before that a lot a touchdown and so what ended up happening
10:37 It was between Nathan Shepherd and Eric McCoy at first and so Shepherds Russian quarterback and a Russian
10:43 From the interior and he gets McCoy McCoy's helmet comes off
10:47 And so that's what ensued and started this whole thing. And so the next thing, you know, those two are going to the ground
10:53 Carl Granderson jumps in Trevor pinning jumps in it kind of like a little pile up a little bit of a brawl
10:58 McCoy and Shepherd got sent to the sidelines Dennis Allen after that team drill when the larvae scored pulled everybody in the middle and
11:05 Basically addressed it now saying look if you want this treat
11:09 This is a boxing ring a boxing matchup
11:11 We'll train like boxers and you can just run for the whole rest of the practice and such
11:15 So I thought that was a good moment to get a handle on this thing and look, you know
11:19 I think we might see some more dust-ups next week when you play joint practices with the Chargers because this year not your
11:27 Teammate so I'm surprised it took 14 days for us to have this we've seen like spats and intensity wrapped
11:33 you know
11:36 Increase in such and then we've seen some minor stuff after the whistle, but this is the first full-on like skirmish
11:42 Fight quote-unquote that we've seen so
11:48 you know, it's uh, it's gonna happen these two guys going at it competing, you know and
11:54 Fights stuff like that's just gonna happen. You're gonna feel a certain type of way but
11:58 Alave
12:00 The Keith Kirkwood play that was easily your two best plays of the day the fight
12:06 Obviously skirmish was another one one of the other things I want to point out
12:10 so when they did go to the in the game situation, one of the things I found interesting was that
12:17 Alonte Taylor was in the slot with the first team and so he's been working on the third team
12:22 He was on the second team now
12:23 He was doing the first team slot duties with a Debo and ladder more on the outside now
12:29 I'm not saying that's the idea because Bradley Roby is this team starting slot guy when the season starts unless something crazy happens
12:36 Right, and hopefully you don't it doesn't because I think Roby's done a nice job
12:39 but I think it is a
12:42 Tribute to Taylor and his ability to learn that position and so thought that was interesting to point out for sure
12:48 But looking at the end of that particular season a sequence with the end of game situation
12:55 So car throws a pick because basically again, like I said 40 seconds have to score touchdown started to 45 both quarterbacks
13:01 they had false start penalties to start that drive, but
13:04 You know the last pass that car through was a pick in the end zone back of the end zone
13:11 He tried it's 31 yard line tried it in the back of the end zone for Chris Alave Marshall Lattimore and coverage
13:17 But Jordan Hound's in perfect positioning Allah Marcus Williams to make an easy pick
13:21 So I thought I really like to see that
13:23 I think that was reminiscent of a Marcus Williams play that we saw a lot of times just being in that right spot
13:28 I'm really wanting to see a lot more from him in preseason. I think he's the guy he's had a strong camp
13:34 Quiet somewhat in the beginning, but he's really come on a lot lately and then
13:40 You know the last play before on landing young went down
13:44 Jameis threw a pick Troy pride another one. That's kind of rising up the
13:48 Stock his stock is going up a little bit more
13:51 You know, it was a play where I'm sure Jameis would want to throw have this back, but you know threw a ball
13:58 Didn't look like it was on the same pages as everybody
14:02 It tastes and does his best to try to go get the ball. It's thrown downfield easy pick for Troy pride. So
14:08 Other than that all kickers they made their three kicks
14:11 So let's hit his extra point from and in from 37 and 40 groupie hit his extra point and in from 37 and 41
14:19 So look, I think the biggest things that we see is Chris Alave is the real deal and we love to see that
14:25 Keith Kirkwood
14:27 Outstanding catch easily play of the day in my opinion
14:30 I think he's got a chance for this roster real chance for this roster and we'll see how it does in the preseason because again
14:36 Like I said, you do great in practice
14:37 You got to put together in the preseason and then obviously the skirmish to fight and then we'll see what happens with landing young
14:43 Tons more all the notes and observations. Oh Drew Brees was at practice if you didn't know
14:48 You know, that was a little bit interesting too just to see him back on the sidelines and such but wills
14:54 No more and we're gonna have plenty of stuff to have break down from Sunday's game against the Chiefs
14:59 We'll get some stuff in advance kind of just to prep you on what we're looking for who we're looking at
15:05 All the things that we want to see but that's gonna do it for today's recap of Saints training camp as always
