  • last year
Anthony Joshua has turned his attention to Deontay Wilder after a brutal knockout victory against Robert Helenius, warning that he’s “focused on smashing” his rival.

The Briton caught Helenius with a clubbing right hand in the seventh round to finish his latest boxing bout, setting up a huge match against Wilder.

“I’m just happy to get the win because I always know after one win, it leads to something spectacular and I think we’re onto something big,” Joshua said after the victory.

“I’m just focused on fighting [Wilder] now... I’m just focused on smashing his head in, that’s it.”

00:00 One step at a time, remember it's competitive boxing, everything I do my opponent is trying
00:06 to shut down every advance I try and make and vice versa so yeah it just took seven
00:12 rounds if I could have done it earlier I would have but it's a breaking down job
00:15 you know many ways to skin a cat and I've done it in the end so yeah we're here now.
00:21 His reputation was damaged due to the fact he was knocked out in a round but he's a very good
00:28 operator minus that he knows what he's doing and as I said in a game of chess he was presenting
00:35 certain obstacles for me to get over and Derek guided me to that knockout so credit to him,
00:40 credit to Maurice, credit to Ian getting my corner they've done a fantastic job and I'm
00:45 just happy to get the win because I always know after one win leads onto something spectacular
00:49 and I think we're onto something big.
00:51 I'm just focused on fighting him now that's it that's what I'm focused on.
00:56 No questions, I'm not trying to compare what would have been and it's a weakness I'm just
01:02 focused on smashing his head in now that's it.
01:04 I think it's difficult to replicate certainly the power of Deontay Wilder but I've always
01:13 felt that AJ can out box Deontay Wilder but also I prefer him to box tentatively than his
01:19 old style against Deontay Wilder I know he can beat him with that style as well but I would
01:24 like to see him box Deontay Wilder, try and break him down.
01:26 If he lands the right hand on Wilder like that the fight's over and vice versa if Wilder
01:32 lands the right hand that's why it's one of the best fights in boxing.
