FourFourTwo sat down with Ex-Arsenal and England player Jay Bothroyd and asked him what he would do if he was in charge of Mikel Arteta's recruitment this summer...

00:00 So Jay, which three Arsenal players would you sell this summer and which three realistic
00:14 players would you like to see brought in that would win the league next season?
00:18 It's a tough one because I think the players that I would want to sell would be the players
00:25 that I think, I'm not playing that often, but can command a transfer fee which would
00:32 raise money to buy the three that I would want to come in.
00:35 So it's not me necessarily saying they're bad players, but I just think at this point
00:41 it would be good for them to move on for their careers and good for Arsenal to recoup that
00:44 money.
00:45 So for me, the first one I would say, Balogun.
00:51 He's been playing in France this year.
00:53 I think he's the youngest player to score 20 goals in European leagues, in all the European
01:03 leagues.
01:05 So I would sell him because he's done so well.
01:07 You could probably get 40 million-ish, I'd probably say, which is obviously good for
01:13 Arsenal to then go and spend on other players.
01:16 I think Xhaka, he's in his 30s.
01:19 I think he wants a longer-term contract and I'm not sure he would get that at Arsenal.
01:24 So I think someone like him, even though he's had a fantastic year, I think it would be
01:29 good for him to move on personally, for himself and for Arsenal financially.
01:37 Then I would say probably Eddie Nketiah as well.
01:40 I think even though he stood in for Jesus this year and he scored some goals, some really
01:46 important goals, some really big performances, I think he needs to go and play week in, week
01:52 in, week in, week out now for his own career.
01:57 I think he's definitely capable of doing that in the Premier League at a Premier League
02:00 club.
02:01 Obviously, Arsenal will get compensated for that as well.
02:04 So I would go with them three.
02:07 I would say it's good for those three for their own careers, but also good for Arsenal.
02:12 And what about coming in?
02:15 Coming in is a strange one because obviously you always want the best players in the world
02:20 to come, but I think Arsenal's problem, and we've seen that this year, is the debt in
02:26 the squad.
02:27 Arsenal don't have the spending power that Man City have or Chelsea have, even though
02:37 they have spent quite a bit of money under Arteta.
02:41 A lot of talk has been made of Declan Rice coming to Arsenal this year, as much as I
02:47 think he's a top, top midfield player.
02:52 Probably our best midfield player in what he does, as in interceptions, breaking up
02:57 play, driving the ball forward from a deep area.
03:01 I think he's probably the best at that in the Premier League.
03:06 But I have to go with, I want to go with numbers because I think next year when Arsenal win
03:11 the Champions League, there's much more games.
03:13 You've got to play a lot better players in midweek and on a Saturday to compete.
03:20 So the players that I would like to see come in, I would like to see Kaysedo from Brighton
03:28 come in, that kind of defensive midfield player, similar to Declan.
03:36 But he can also play right back, which is a problem for Arsenal as well.
03:40 We need a right back because this year Ben White has been playing right back and even
03:45 though he's had a good year, I look at him more as a centre-back.
03:52 Then I would go with, actually, I would go with McAllister as well from Brighton.
03:59 I think he's a fantastic player.
04:03 He can play in that kind of jacket position as one of the three midfielders, just in off
04:08 the left.
04:09 He gets forward well, good at set-pieces, energy, strong on the ball.
04:17 He's someone that I think can help Arsenal going forward.
04:22 And then I would say we need a striker, an out-and-out striker.
04:26 So at the moment I look at Arsenal, I see Martinelli, I see Jesus, I see Saka.
04:33 Saka's one of the best right-wingers in the world and he's definitely one of the best
04:38 in the Premier League.
04:40 For me it's a toss-up between Mahrez and him.
04:46 And then Jesus, as much as he's been very good for Arsenal, a lot of his best work comes
04:51 from the wide areas.
04:53 So for me I don't look at him as an out-and-out striker.
04:55 He doesn't convince me that he can score 20 Premier League goals every year.
05:00 He hasn't done this this year and even at Man City he hasn't done it either.
05:05 So for me we need an out-and-out goal scorer.
05:09 For me I would want to see Osserman come from Napoli.
05:14 I think he's strong, he's powerful, he's good link-up plays, he's fast and he's got an eye
05:20 for goal.
05:21 So they're my three that I would like to see at Arsenal this year.
