India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah's name has been discussed as a potential captain of the Indian cricket team after Virat Kohli quit the Test captaincy recently. 00:00 For the first time, you are in a designated leadership role in the Indian men's team.
00:04 The test captaincy is now up for grabs and recently Pat Cummins led Australia to a phone
00:09 lashes victory.
00:10 So, firstly, do you harbour ambitions to captain the team at any point?
00:14 Secondly, how different is it for a fast bowler to be a captain because you have to ideally
00:18 field inside the circle, there's workload management, there are fitness issues.
00:22 So what are the challenges you see on that front?
00:25 See, for me, I am ready to contribute in whatever position, whatever way I can to the team.
00:31 If given an opportunity, of course, you would think about it, but that's something that
00:35 I don't chase.
00:36 I like to do my work however I can contribute, be it having a post or not, it doesn't really
00:42 matter.
00:43 Whatever contribution you can give, I try to do that and that's always been my process
00:49 and that's always what I look to do.
00:51 So yeah, obviously, if given an opportunity, it's an honour and there's no bigger feeling
00:55 than that.
00:56 But yeah, I try to focus on the things that I can contribute, even if I'm not given a
01:01 position of a leader because that's the job of a teammate that however you can help each
01:05 other in any situation, that's very important.
01:08 For me, the role doesn't change at all because I have to do my job first, isn't it?
01:12 So you know, trying to contribute as much as I can in whatever fields I can and helping
01:18 KL as much as he wants, if he needs any assistance on the field, sharing a bowler's mindset,
01:24 what kind of fields can you keep, that is something that I always look to do, even if
01:28 I'm not the vice-captain.
01:29 I try to talk to certain younger guys as well who've come in now and have a lot of discussions
01:35 with them around fields and what kind of deliveries and quickly assessing the wicket.
01:39 So that's the same role I'll have to do again and I'm trying to do that as well.
01:43 No specific responsibilities or added pressure that I want to take.
01:46 Yes, helping the team in any way possible, helping KL in any way possible and trying
01:52 to keep a calm head and try to give guidance.
01:54 That's it.
