Wembley review

The YEP's Peter Smith reflects on a memorable rugby league finals day at Wembley.

00:24 a good account of themselves, just lacked a little bit in terms of finishing and probably

00:28 composure at crucial moments. They did have the consolation of scoring a sensational try

00:34 through Caitlin Beavers which was as good as anything that has ever been seen at Wembley

00:38 in my opinion. A wonderful touchdown. Leeds will be back, they have a young side, they

00:44 have had a lot of adversity this season but they will bounce back and I am sure they will

00:48 be back at Wembley in the future. Hulkingston Rovers scored a last gasp try through Matt

00:55 Parcell to send the men's challenge cup final to extra time against Leeds Centurions but

01:02 that was won by Lachlan Lambs. Golden point, drop goal, 83 minutes into the game. Not a

01:09 classic but very tense, exciting, a lot of errors. I think Leeds just about deserved

01:16 the win although no one could have complained if they had not managed to snatch it. Then

01:19 a very drab 1895 cup final, Halifax were 12-0 up and Batley Bulldogs suddenly came to life

01:26 in the last 10 minutes or so. Scored two tries to Halifax's one, including an amazing effort

01:32 after the final hooter. That gave Luke Hooley, the dual-registered Leeds riders full-back,

01:38 an opportunity to send the game into extra time but it was tight to the left-hand touchline

01:44 and he couldn't quite find the mark with his conversion attempt. So that ended Halifax

01:49 12, Batley Bulldogs 10 on Batley's first visit to Wembley. So a disappointing day for everyone

01:58 Yorkshire-wise apart from Halifax it has to be said. 50,000 or so in the ground at Wembley
