00:00 Now, let's do joy news today because one person is reported dead and two others injured
00:07 in latest violent clashes recorded in Boko.
00:11 Information available to Joy News indicates that police have picked up five persons for
00:15 allegedly shooting into a crowd of civilians going about their normal daily activities
00:21 on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the death of one person.
00:25 According to the reports, an M16 rifle was retrieved from one of the suspects, who are
00:30 all now in custody pending further investigation.
00:33 In what appears to be a separate incident, a driver and his passengers from Boko to a
00:38 yet-to-be-confirmed destination are all said to have been killed on Sunday afternoon.
00:45 Civilians and well-meaning stakeholders are extremely worried about the recent developments.

01:05 What can you tell us about the dead and injured?
01:07 Who are they?
01:09 Yes, in fact, straightforward is that the dead person is not a resident of Boko.
01:21 He is from the southern part of the country and is accompanied by ethnic or tribal groupings.
01:31 My attention was drawn to the fact that he lives in Bolga and is a teacher in Bolga Taga,
01:38 the capital of the upper East Region.
01:42 He has a card that he does weekend galantees, which let me put it in that loose term, galantees,

01:52 And so he drove to Boko with passengers.
01:55 Apparently was standing close to the traffic light in Boko, just closer to the total city
02:00 and in fact, the accident came closer, fired at the crowd and he was badly injured.
02:10 The rush went into the hospital, he passed on.
02:13 The other two ladies also were injured and I'm told that one other person who is a man
02:20 is also injured, but it's only one death so far.
02:25 Within Boko, that this is the place.
02:30 So these are the same people who were believed to be traveling to an unknown location where
02:34 killed, right?
02:35 No, that was a different thing.
02:38 I think that I was also told that a vehicle was moving out of Boko, I think got to Northeast,
02:46 somewhere in a village known as Binsi.
02:49 According to the report from the police, that some other men also in that area, also shot
02:56 at that particular vehicle.
02:58 And my information was also to the effect that the vehicle is coming from Boko.
03:04 That's it, that's what I knew about it and that one was also led to the death of one
03:09 person.
03:12 Have we been able to understand what could have led or triggered this latest shooting?
03:19 Technically, we are working on that.
03:23 When I say we, the citizens are working to find out at the scene the cause of that particular
03:29 incident.
03:30 Yes, we are working to see and to unravel the main cause of that particular shooting.
03:37 We cannot tell unless the police themselves will come out with the findings that indeed
03:41 this was what triggered that particular shooting.
03:46 Recently the place had been a bit calm.
03:50 Did we hear of any undertones that were building up which could probably have led to this?
03:58 In Boko, one thing is certain.
04:01 The place will become to be in the next minute or the next hour or the next day another thing.
04:08 So you cannot predict Boko.
04:10 You cannot say there is a period of certainty.
04:12 There is a period of calmness for long.
04:16 But I can tell you exactly that if there is gunshot within one minute, in the next minute
04:23 there could be calmness.
04:25 And so you cannot predict it.
04:26 It is difficult to predict it.
04:29 Otherwise, your question relates to something we have consistently spoken about.
04:39 In fact, there are some audio and social media banter between the two fugitive factions.
04:46 And usually when those things happen frequently, each of the factions will threaten that they
04:52 want to do this, they want to do that.
04:55 And that will lead to some shooting either within some minutes, some hours or some days.

22:03 Critics of the fast fashion industry are alluding to a business
22:09 that is encouraging overconsumption and waste with an adverse impact on the environment.
22:15 The trillion dollar industry is responsible for a percentage of the global negative environmental effects
22:21 including high levels of toxic chemicals and textile waste.
22:25 Our friend Mona Lisa from Pong speaks with Academia who say they are working to clean up the fashion industry
22:31 and embrace secular economy principles.
22:34 In the last decade, the fashion industry has doubled production, generating massive waste in the process.
22:43 Less than 1% of waste collected is used to make new clothing.
22:48 Others end up at landfill sites or get burnt.
22:52 These trends are not only damaging the environment,
22:55 they are limiting the opportunities for the fashion industry to succeed in the long term.
23:01 Lecturer at the Fashion and Textiles Department, KNUST, Eunice Owusu-Enchi,
23:06 says the industry already misses out on monetary value from clothing being worn less and barely recycled.
23:13 She was speaking at the 2023 edition of the KNUST Fashion Show in Kumasi.
23:19 Right from the point of conceptualization, designing the garment and deciding which fabric to use,
23:26 what to combine it with, for a particular purpose that you intend it for.
23:32 It should be able to serve that purpose and have longevity.
23:35 So that is what I'm looking at, the new composites that are coming out,
23:40 would put into practice or implement in their designing, in their creation.
23:49 So that we don't see much of fashion landing in the landfill site, people discarding fashion so quickly.
23:58 And then that will also help us to save money for the consumer,
24:06 to save the environment when it comes to the materials we are picking from the environment to create fashion.
24:13 Globally, clothing consumption is predicted to rise by 2030.
24:18 But there is more fashion designers can do to reduce the carbon fashion footprint.
24:24 New designs can be made out of them.
24:27 Eunice Owusu-Enchi wants both fashion students and industry persons to incorporate a timeless style into designs.
24:34 Even though we say fashion is evolutionary, fashion is driven by change,
24:40 we want to create fashion that is also sustainable.
24:43 Sustainable in a sense that the design itself lasts, has longevity.
24:50 You can fall in love with a design for a really long time without discarding it.
24:55 Secondly, the material that you are choosing to create that particular design or that particular fashion,
