Lab-grown diamonds are quickly growing in popularity over mined diamonds as they are higher quality, cheaper, and both socially and environmentally more responsible than mined products. Adamas One diamonds are used for jewelry, commercial and industrial purposes as well as being a key component in the manufacturing of semiconductors. Learn more at https://adamasone.com/

00:00 Welcome back. Diamonds might be a girl's best friend, but some say they're no
00:04 friend of mother nature and definitely frenemies with your pocketbook. But
00:08 there's a new kind of diamond and it's real, but it's not really mine. Jay
00:14 Gurdina from Adamus One is here to explain. Thanks for being here. Oh, these
00:20 are gorgeous and sparkly. By the way, we were just talking backstage. I have a
00:25 diamond. This is my wedding ring I've had for 16 years. This diamond, it is a
00:30 real diamond chemically, optically. However, it was not mine. So tell me about...
00:36 You were a trendsetter. I was a trendsetter back then. 16 years ago, a lab-grown diamond was very few and far
00:41 between. And for you to understand and unknowingly go, "Look, I want a lab-grown
00:45 diamond." 16 years ago, it was really a trendsetter. Will you tell me about the
00:49 process here? And by the way, let me just try one of these on. You will get it back,
00:52 I promise. But I'd like to show off first of all. That's your party gift. This is my best day at the Arizona Daily Mix. So tell us about this stone and how it's made.
01:02 So that's a ten and a half carat that we made in-house. It says, as well as it
01:06 represents our El Jolie, which is our new jewelry line. And then we make our
01:10 lab-grown diamonds by a process called CVD, chemical vapor deposition. We
01:14 actually patent that process as well. So we hold 28 domestic patents, 8
01:18 international. And very simply, CVD just means turning a gas into a solid. So how
01:23 the process works is, we create a vacuum within our chamber. We put a bunch of
01:28 diamond seeds, what we call diamond seeds, thin slices of diamonds. In 30 days,
01:32 we create a plasma, which is like a miniature sun. It's like 3,000 to 5,000
01:37 degrees centigrade. You create a miniature sun? A miniature sun. Oh my gosh.
01:41 You've got to wear UVA. You have to wear sunblock as well. That's right. Don't get burnt.
01:45 So it goes hand in hand with Arizona. So and then we infuse with carbon-rich gas.
01:50 That carbon-rich gas rains down onto the diamond seeds. The seeds give it the
01:53 architectural understanding and know-how to build a diamond. In 30 days, each one of
01:57 those little diamonds turns into about a six carat rough diamond. This is
02:00 incredible. So just to be clear, we're not talking about a cubic zirconia or
02:04 anything. This is a diamond. Physically, chemically, optically identical to a mine
02:08 diamond. The only difference is one comes out of the earth, one comes out of a safe
02:12 environment we call a lab. What are some problems with diamonds that come out of
02:15 the earth? I mean, there's, we look, it's, there's a great industry that mine diamond's
02:19 been around for, you know, thousands and thousands of years. We look at an
02:22 alternative to that. Just like yourself. You're like, look, I want to be more
02:26 environmentally conscious or socially conscious as well, because we
02:31 all have seen the movie Blood Diamonds, etc. So we just offer a different
02:34 alternative to people who are more conscientious about sustainable or
02:39 sustainable mankind. And Jay, listen, I wanted to avoid a mine diamond for many
02:45 of the reasons that you just said, because they're largely from conflict
02:48 areas and perhaps more now with the situation in Ukraine. But also, I wanted
02:53 to save a buck. Let's be honest, because a mine diamond does lose value the minute
02:58 it leaves a jewelry store. So in terms of price point, how do these compare to mine
03:03 diamonds? So when we talk about a retail setting, it's a little different than a
03:06 wholesale structure. In a retail setting, they generally sell anywhere between 35
03:10 to 55 percent at a discount to mine diamonds. Meaning, when you go in a store,
03:15 and everyone has a budget, right? You go in the store, you go, I have $5,000 to spend on
03:18 my engagement ring for my fiancee. So you go, okay, here's what your alternatives are.
03:23 Here's what you can buy from a mine diamond for $5,000. Here's what you can buy from a lab-grown
03:26 diamond for $5,000. So it's either you're going for a bigger diamond or a better
03:29 quality diamond. And that's really where the value proposition comes in.
03:33 Because you can get a higher quality, the C's, right?
03:37 Correct, the four C's.
03:38 Clarity. Everyone forgets the fourth one.
03:40 Carat, which is your size.
03:42 Carat.
03:43 And color.
03:44 And by the way, I love this pink one we're seeing. You guys make pink as well as a traditional
03:49 clear or whatever you call it?
03:50 So we specialize in white diamonds and pink.
03:52 White.
03:53 If we look at, I think our pinks are probably the best pinks in the world. A true argyle
03:57 pink diamond.
03:58 It's so gorgeous. If somebody's watching this and they're thinking about getting engaged
04:02 or maybe they want to buy a gift for somebody in their life who might prefer a mine diamond
04:06 for whatever reason, what's a good way to find you, get more information and see some
04:10 of the jewelry that you make?
04:12 So you can go to diamonds1.com and that's A-D-A-M-A-S 1.com and then we're launching,
04:17 this is all from our new jewelry line, El Jolie. So eljolie.com and we'll launch that
04:22 in early October. You'll see that coming out.
04:24 Thank you so much. And now you'll have to pry this ring from my cold, dead hand. Thank
04:30 you so much, Jay. Thank you. These are beautiful.
