00:15 She said, "After songs like 'Eena Meena Dika' and other such numbers, people began saying
00:20 I can sing all kinds of songs.
00:22 They would say she sings a Madan Mohan track as well as a Shankar Jai Kishan number and
00:27 songs of completely different styles like S.D. Burman and R.D.
00:30 Burman.
00:31 When I was 10 in Kolhapur, I would listen to a lot of English songs because of that
00:36 I would understand things like vibrating my voice or hitting the straight notes."
00:40 Revealing why she always wanted to be different from her late singer Lata Mangeshkar, she
00:45 said, "I wanted to be different from Lata Didi.
00:47 Nobody would have given me work if I had sung like her.
00:50 I realised this at the very beginning of my career and that's why I kept experimenting
00:55 with the kind of songs I sang and even my voice.
00:58 My voice was absolutely different from hers but I made it sharper.
