00:00 Get ready with me to go visit my baby in the NICU.
00:03 Today's actually the first day I'm putting on makeup.
00:12 I'm starting to feel a little bit more like myself.
00:14 This brow pencil was by Winky Lux.
00:16 I fell for it at like a checkout line at Sephora.
00:19 Crew Sims, Kevka, was born Thursday, July 27th,
00:24 and it was a complete shock.
00:25 It was literally like a scene from the movies.
00:28 I probably manifested this a little too hard.
00:31 I've always wanted my water to break
00:34 because I had an induction date for August 25th.
00:38 So I'm like, oh man, you know,
00:39 it kind of takes the fun out of it.
00:40 I really would just love if my water could break,
00:43 but it means six weeks prior.
00:45 This is Fake Awake.
00:46 I love this.
00:47 I need that right now.
00:49 Make it till you make it, baby.
00:50 So my husband plays golf professionally,
00:52 and prior to when Crew was born,
00:56 he was on a four week road trip with golf tournaments,
00:59 and they were all over sea,
01:01 so he wasn't even close to me.
01:02 I rarely use eye makeup.
01:05 I'm doing, what is this, Hoola Glow by Benefit.
01:08 I'm gonna do a little just natural latte makeup.
01:13 Can't go too heavy or my child's not gonna recognize me.
01:15 I've been rolling into the NICU
01:17 with my eyes swollen shut.
01:18 So Brooks gets home on Sunday,
01:22 and we have just a normal week together.
01:23 Thursday rolls around, just a normal day.
01:25 We had a meeting with our doula,
01:28 the very first time Brooks had actually met her.
01:30 This is Anastasia Glow Kit.
01:33 It's actually a highlighter,
01:34 but I'm using it as eyeshadow.
01:36 So we're starting to go over birth wishes.
01:37 It was like three o'clock in the afternoon,
01:40 and I started getting contractions,
01:42 but I didn't think anything of it
01:43 because I had felt contractions earlier,
01:45 but they started getting closer and closer together.
01:47 The doula leaves, and then Brooks goes to the gym.
01:51 He is going to the gym.
01:53 This is a Dibbs palette.
01:55 He is going to the gym for two hours.
01:56 He comes home at 5.46, let's say.
02:01 I'm in my office, piddling around.
02:04 I hear him come in.
02:05 We make eye contact, and I just feel my water break.
02:10 And I must've made a face
02:11 because Brooks was like, "What just happened?"
02:13 Like, "Your face, what just happened?"
02:15 And I shot to the bathroom.
02:17 Thank God my doctor gave me her,
02:20 one of my doctors gave me her cell phone.
02:21 She picks up instantly.
02:23 I said, "I think my water just broke."
02:24 She's like, "Get to the hospital right now."
02:26 This is probably the point where we both go
02:29 into a little bit of a shock because it's happening,
02:32 and we are super duper early.
02:35 So I throw on a diaper, it depends,
02:39 and I'm running around with just that on,
02:42 and we start to laugh
02:45 because we hadn't packed our hospital bags yet.
02:48 This is Estee Lauder Double Wear in the shade Tawny.
02:54 I think it was probably nervous energy
02:56 'cause it was a very serious situation,
02:59 but we were laughing.
03:01 I'm like, "I'm in this diaper,
03:03 and I'm running around trying to wear my nursing bras.
03:06 Where are my hospital outfits?"
03:09 And when you laugh, more water comes out.
03:13 So I'm going through multiple adult diapers.
03:17 I'm like packing, I'm running in here to the bathroom
03:19 to put on another diaper.
03:21 I think I went through three diapers,
03:22 and those diapers hold a lot.
03:23 So that tells you kind of how much water comes out
03:28 when it happens.
03:29 I cannot tell y'all how good it feels
03:30 to just start to see my face again.
03:32 But then I went into active labor.
03:35 So I was already dilated.
03:37 I forget what they said how much,
03:38 but in the contractions,
03:39 we're getting a little more intense.
03:41 Just setting all my liquids with MAC Studio Fix.
03:44 Already had mentally prepared myself for a C-section
03:47 because crew was breach.
03:49 This is Charlotte Tilbury and Fair Pale.
03:54 So it got a little more intense and a little more serious.
03:58 Brooks was like such a champ through all this.
04:00 He was like holding my hand, holding my shoulder.
04:03 You know, "You got this, you're so strong.
04:05 Your body's made for this."
04:06 This is why I'm not putting on a full face of makeup.
04:14 We're gonna keep going.
04:16 He's just the best.
04:17 He's quite literally the best.
04:18 But it got a little more intense
04:20 and the baby's heart rate was dropping
04:23 as my contractions were getting more intense.
04:24 So it went from the baby's coming out in three hours
04:27 to we're going right now to the operating room.
04:30 I'm using Dibs Shade 2.5.
04:32 I'm actually an investor.
04:33 I own part of Dibs, which I'm so happy they are a fan
04:37 of SI Swimsuit 'cause they're at all the events.
04:40 So they gave me my spinal tap, which isn't as scary.
04:44 I mean, honestly, the contractions hurt so much worse
04:47 when the spinal tap or the epidural goes in.
04:49 It just all like, I can't even describe it.
04:52 It just melts away.
04:53 From there, it's just normal C-section protocol.
04:57 They ripped open my insides and, you know,
05:00 they put the sheet up so you don't get to see anything.
05:02 But I had my doula and Brooks on my side
05:07 and you don't really feel too much.
05:08 You feel a little bit of pressure.
05:10 And then once it was time to get the baby out,
05:13 his whole hand, it felt like his whole arm
05:16 was up the right side of my body
05:17 and he just one time pulled out.
05:20 And then I hear, "He's here."
05:21 And then they show you your baby over the curtain
05:24 and you're like, "Oh my gosh."
05:26 They do such a good job of distracting you.
05:27 Like Brooks is cutting the cord and, you know,
05:30 your baby's, you can see them doing all the things,
05:33 wiping him down, he's crying, which was such a blessing.
05:36 Like he's crying so that means he's breathing.
05:38 And, you know, they hand and to you for like a little bit,
05:43 which was just the greatest thing.
05:45 Using a dibs blush, it's called Full Deets.
05:47 It's like a coral.
05:49 And they treat my incision and then wheel me back
05:52 into the room that I'm gonna be in for a handful of days.
05:54 And Brooks gets to go to the NICU,
05:56 which is where our baby is for the time being
06:00 while he grows a little bit more.
06:02 He's starting to breastfeed, which I,
06:05 the pumping is a whole new level of difficulty
06:08 not being around my baby 24/7.
06:12 And on that note, obviously we had to leave the hospital
06:15 because you can only stay there for so long.
06:18 But leaving the hospital was, I mean,
06:21 the hardest thing that both of us
06:22 would probably ever have to do.
06:24 I have such a, like a huge space in my heart
06:28 for NICU parents and just women who leave the hospital
06:32 and never get to bring their babies home.
06:35 Like it was such a weird feeling.
06:38 But we visit him every chance we get.
06:40 Brooks has actually been away on the road
06:42 playing this past weekend.
06:43 He comes home tonight.
06:45 Oh my gosh, I'm so excited.
06:47 And this mascara, by the way,
06:48 is called Better Than Sex.
06:51 It's by Too Faced, but it's not.
06:54 It's good, it's good mascara.
06:56 I just wanna make sure whoever's naming this
06:58 is getting uneasy.
07:00 Let's curl my hair and talk about swim search.
07:02 So for the actual swim week,
07:04 obviously it was the most important job
07:06 I've ever done to date, which was walk the runway.
07:10 To be honest, I felt a little bit guilty there
07:14 because I am, I'm a recovering people pleaser.
07:18 I just want to, I put so much pressure on myself
07:21 to do everything right and give it 100%,
07:24 especially because this is my lifelong dream
07:27 and it just means so much to me.
07:29 I didn't have a ton of energy.
07:32 I was in my eighth month of pregnancy and I was exhausted,
07:36 but I couldn't possibly give any more than I did.
07:40 I just, if I wasn't pregnant, I could have,
07:41 I was, I'd be bouncing off the wall.
07:43 I'd be bouncing off the wall.
07:45 The advice I have, some of y'all are not gonna like this.
07:50 I understand that for most of y'all,
07:55 it is your biggest dream,
07:57 something that you want more than anything in this world.
08:00 I know exactly how that feels,
08:02 but it'll be just so much more of a pleasant experience
08:06 if you can give yourself a little bit of grace
08:08 and flexibility and just roll with the punches,
08:12 roll, 'cause there are so many unknowns.
08:15 Meet your deadlines, get your video in,
08:19 but just trust that when it's in,
08:21 that the right person is gonna see it.
08:24 They're gonna review it.
08:26 And if you are gonna be moving on to the next round,
08:30 you will hear from them.
08:31 Something that really behooved me
08:33 was just trusting in the timing of the universe.
08:36 I didn't get it on my first try.
08:38 I was obviously sad, but I was okay with it.
08:43 Thankfully, because they are so inclusive,
08:45 you can do it forever, you know?
08:49 And trust me, MJ and Hillary and the whole, all the staff,
08:53 they see you.
08:55 They know who's coming back.
08:57 They know who's not giving up.
08:59 So on that note, my hair is done.
09:02 I'm gonna show you the full look here in a second.
09:05 Okay, I feel like I'm myself, so thank you.
09:11 This top is Hatch Gal.
09:14 It is just like a nursing top.
09:16 The nursing bra is by, oh my gosh, Kindred.
09:21 What does it say?
09:22 Kindred Bravery.
09:24 These are Beach Riot.
09:26 Let's go to the NICU.
09:29 (gentle music)
09:32 (laughs)
