A huge blow for City.
Transcript
00:00 Michael, Kevin De Bruyne obviously took that knock in the Champions League final and then
00:04 hasn't really, obviously clearly hasn't recovered fully yet. How much of an impact blow is that
00:10 to Man City? Because we saw how important he was in the big games, you know, Real Madrid
00:14 away, he was unlocking things, Arsenal at home, Arsenal away, it was the big games they
00:19 really needed him. He stepped up, he was their man and obviously you touched on as well the
00:24 fact he's built that relationship with Erling Haal and that came alive, that came to fruition
00:28 and really helped City push on and win the treble in the end as well. So how important
00:33 is he to City and how much of a loss will he be in these opening weeks/maybe even months?
00:40 Yeah I think it definitely will be months. I think Paco Guardiola said three to four
00:43 months which is huge for City. I mean that is obviously half the season almost so it's
00:49 a massive blow for them. I think that, I mean you touched on it there, some of the major
00:54 points but listen City have got a fantastic group of footballers but quite a few of them
00:58 are very, they're in the same mode in terms of keeping possession, doing things neat and
01:05 tidy. Kevin Abruina is a bit unique in that regard in that he, you know, his passing percentage
01:13 is very often the lowest in the team because he tries the risky pass, he tries the difficult
01:17 pass, he tries to run up the opposition, tries to make things happen that perhaps some of
01:24 his team mates don't always. He is, you know, probably in my opinion, potentially the best
01:30 player in the Premier League, certainly him and Erling Haaland and it's going to be a
01:34 huge blow for City. They need to replace those assists. We just had a conversation about
01:39 whether City will bring in an attacking midfielder, Lucas Paqueta, Linked. I think they probably
01:44 need another option in that role or it's going to need someone to step up. I mean the two
01:48 obvious ones in the attacking midfield role are three I suppose in terms of Phil Foden,
01:53 Bernardo Silva, Julian Alvarez is the third. Alvarez is more of a goal scorer than providing
01:58 assists in my eyes so I do see it more as Silva and Foden. So it's a huge blow for City,
02:03 there's no way round it and they will just hope to get him back as quickly as possible.
02:08 My other concern with the hamstring injury is that you can't rush a player back after
02:12 that because if it goes again that would be a nightmare. So I do wonder actually how long
02:17 term this injury is going to be for De Bruyne and actually, you know, De Bruyne is 31 maybe,
02:23 I can't remember off the top of my head. I really hope that this injury doesn't have
02:26 a long term impact on him. I hope we're not talking in two or three years that he didn't
02:30 fully come back from this injury, that we still see this incredibly talented player
02:34 still at his best in the coming years and yeah, it'd just be interesting to see I suppose
02:39 what moves City make in the market in the next couple of weeks to potentially replace
02:42 him and how they deal with his absence in the team.
