00:00 Even in online shopping, senior citizens should also get a discount on what products they buy and how they can get a discount.
00:09 Let's find out with the testimony of Ivan Mayrina.
00:12 Even if he's a senior and not a techie, he was forced to learn online shopping from Susan Gallardo during the pandemic.
00:22 He's safe, even though he's still infected.
00:25 However, he's not getting the 20% discount he used to get when he eats at a restaurant or buys medicine.
00:32 It's a waste of 20% discount because it's a big thing and it can be reduced.
00:36 What Ms. Susan doesn't know is that in May last year, the Government and National Commission of Senior Citizens established a plan
00:44 to give discounts for online shopping to senior citizens.
00:48 At the time, it was COVID. So there was so much need to support our industry, but also so much need to also protect and define the benefits of the senior citizens.
01:02 So it was passed and it was circularized.
01:08 The discount is based on the Expanded Senior Citizens Act, 20% for food, medicine, and public transportation.
01:16 The booking for airplanes and ships is 5% for basic necessities and prime commodities.
01:22 For basic necessities, you can get a discount of up to P1,300 per week.
01:27 But for medicine, there's no limitation on the 20% discount.
01:31 The process is a bit messy.
01:33 Before ordering, you need to let them know that you're buying a merchant, restaurant or boutique, for example,
01:38 that a senior citizen is buying and you need to send a screenshot or scanned copy of the senior citizen ID and receipt.
01:45 And when you deliver, you need to present the original copy of the ID to the delivery rider.
01:49 Some food delivery riders asked if anyone can get a discount like this from senior citizens.
01:55 No.
01:56 No one?
01:57 No one.
01:58 The customer really needs to dine-in at the restaurant to get a discount.
02:06 But if it's online, no one can get it?
02:08 No one. It's fixed.
02:10 The customer ordered through online. He should have been the one to direct the customer to the restaurant
02:16 because they need to be the one to send the transaction ID.
02:20 The crew at the restaurant told us about it.
02:23 The National Commission of Senior Citizens is once again against the agencies that should be operating here.
02:29 The law is very clear on transactions involving basic essentials.
02:35 From food to medicine to groceries, if someone can buy it online, then he's entitled under Republic Act 9994.
