00:07 Our tale of the tape for this,
00:09 our co-main event of the evening,
00:12 the Armenian three years, the elder of the Venezuelan.
00:17 He is taller, will have a slight reach advantage.
00:21 Co-main event scheduled for 10 rounds.
00:23 Here we go.
00:24 It's time to fight.
00:26 Gray and black trunks for the Southpaw Christian
00:29 Baez in the black trunks.
00:34 Petros Ananian, trained by Freddie Roach,
00:39 Armenian born, Russian national,
00:41 who has lived in the US for many years now.
00:44 Baez, one of the bigger punchers in this division.
00:52 All but two of his 19 victories have been by knockout.
00:58 I will say a lot of those fights did come at lightweight,
01:03 135 pounds.
01:04 I saw both men walking around our campus
01:06 the last two days.
01:07 Ananian is definitely the bigger man of the two.
01:10 Trains in San Jose, California,
01:14 actually in the Santa Clara area,
01:17 right by the San Francisco 49ers headquarters.
01:20 And that's something Ananian does really well.
01:25 He changes speed really well.
01:27 He kind of moses his way in and then explodes
01:29 with the right hand over the top.
01:30 We just saw that.
01:31 That's part of his style.
01:32 He's a physically strong guy.
01:34 Wouldn't say he's the fastest guy,
01:35 but he changes up speeds quite well.
01:37 - Well, it's sort of like a baseball pitcher.
01:39 If you mix it up just right,
01:41 you can still be dangerous.
01:43 Good little change there.
01:44 Yeah, I mean, Maddox didn't throw 100 miles an hour,
01:46 but he changed his pitches so well
01:48 that he was very effective as a pitcher.
01:50 And Ananian kind of similar in that way.
01:52 And then he's not the fastest guy, like we said, Champ,
01:55 but he changed up the speed pretty well.
01:56 Good exchange there.
01:57 - Dwight Gooden did just throw 100 miles an hour
02:01 pretty much every pitch.
02:02 - Come on, guys. Mariano Rivera.
02:04 - There you go.
02:05 - Now, if everybody watching at home,
02:06 watch these guys as they're fighting for control
02:09 of the center of the ring.
02:10 They've switched several times,
02:11 and who's on the ropes, who's in the center,
02:13 both of them vying for that position.
02:15 - Baez coming off a very impressive win
02:19 over Mayweather fighter Kevin Johnson.
02:22 A 10-round unanimous decision victory.
02:26 Which was on the heels of the fight against Ruben Torres
02:31 when he was knocked out in a very unsportsmanlike fashion.
02:36 If you haven't seen it, it went viral and it was nasty.
02:39 - Yeah, it was a nasty touch gloves, left hook situation
02:42 that put Baez on his back for the count.
02:45 A lot of people questioning whether that was clean or not.
02:47 - Maybe within the rules, Chris,
02:50 clean would be something you would have to debate,
02:53 I would say.
02:54 - Yeah, Kevin Johnson can be a dirty sport at times.
02:55 - It was with that hook.
02:57 First of 10 here in our co-main event of the evening.
03:01 17 wins as a professional for 34-year-old Petros Ananian,
03:08 Christian Baez, 19 wins at age 31.
03:12 - Baez flashing that power early,
03:15 and you're seeing him from that southpaw position.
03:17 He's doing a good job of what I call staying invisible.
03:19 He's staying outside that lead foot of Ananian.
03:22 - Ananian making a little bit of a mistake
03:24 and pulling back straight,
03:26 which can open up that power left hand for Baez.
03:29 - Good body shot there about 20 seconds ago
03:32 by Baez, right hook to the body.
03:33 - That corner Baez.
03:51 - Nice combination there from Ananian.
03:53 He puts the two down low to the pit of the stomach,
03:55 comes up tall with the left hook after,
03:57 and there's that right hook to the body
03:58 you were talking about, Jim, at the end of the round.
04:01 - Yeah, and he gets his foot on the outside, like you said,
04:02 so he's able to position it well and get it off.
04:05 - No question, Baez can fight.
04:10 He knows what he's doing in there
04:10 from that southpaw position,
04:11 and he did flash that power.
04:13 - Petros Ananian wants to start.
04:21 To get many more fights per calendar year
04:25 than he has in his career.
04:27 This is his first fight of 2023.
04:30 His last fight was 301 days ago.
04:33 In fact, he had two fights in 2022,
04:36 one fight in 2021, and only one in 2020,
04:40 only two in 2019.
04:43 So looking to make up for some lost time.
04:45 Ananian is in the black trunks,
04:49 and the southpaw Christian Baez
04:51 in the gray and black trunks.
04:52 Round number two.
04:53 - This is the third fight of Ananian's career
04:57 with the famed Freddy Roach in his corner.
04:59 Let's see how the adjustments can fly round the round.
05:03 - And that's the thing, man,
05:09 you can't take too many risky chances
05:11 against a guy like Baez, because he hits hard.
05:14 He's got the big punch and power.
05:16 - There's that looping left-hand shot.
05:19 You wanna set it up accordingly.
05:21 - You mentioned the Venezuelans
05:22 usually come in with good power.
05:23 You're absolutely right.
05:24 I mean, a lot of them, sure,
05:26 a lot of their records are padded down there,
05:27 but then they come here and they bring the power with them.
05:30 - It's a lot of South America in general,
05:33 even Argentinians. - Colombians.
05:34 - Colombians. - Argentinians, yep.
05:36 Very true.
05:37 - Brazilians. - Brazilians, yes.
05:39 Usually not the classiest boxers,
05:41 but they tend to have a punch.
05:43 - Yes, indeed.
05:46 - Maybe it's not always in a boxing glove.
05:50 You don't wanna doubt the power of a guy
05:52 like Junior Dos Santos or Shogun Hua, and many others.
05:57 - But on top of that power, you can see Baez,
05:59 he's pretty smooth too.
06:01 The way that he's in there, he's staying very relaxed.
06:03 He's doing a good job being a ring general
06:04 and placing an onion where he wants him.
06:07 - And you talked about the battle for control of the ring,
06:09 but Baez is starting to take control of that
06:13 and making an onion fight where Baez wants to fight
06:16 and not where an onion wants to fight.
06:18 An onion now managed to get himself back to center ring,
06:21 but it's that real estate battle still going on,
06:24 and it's a psychological battle
06:25 as well as a physical battle.
06:26 - I know this champ, Baez, even though he's on the outside,
06:28 he's more comfortable there.
06:29 Like even though he's not controlling the center
06:32 and an onion spending more time there,
06:34 he's doing well on the outside as well.
06:36 - Very proud Venezuelan, his nickname inspired
06:39 by his home country of Venezuela, Guaico.
06:43 He was finished in both of the losses.
06:50 One was the questionable shot by Ruben Torres.
06:53 The other was to 19 and two, Luis Lopez.
06:57 Perfect in all of his other 17 fights.
07:02 Trying to come over the top with the left.
07:08 Good compact combination there.
07:11 - We talked about the change of speed on an onion,
07:13 but also Baez too.
07:14 Baez will touch up and all of a sudden shoot something
07:16 really hard with a lot of weight behind it.
07:18 He'll mix it up as well.
07:19 - A lot of that comes from Baez staying so relaxed.
07:22 He's very, very calm, picking his punches well.
07:24 - The great Freddy Roach in the corner of Petros and Onion.
07:34 (speaking in foreign language)
07:38 - Good round from Baez that second round.
08:01 Was able to pick his spots well,
08:03 finding the holes in an onion's defense.
08:06 There we see a nice left uppercut.
08:07 Again, he's not putting a ton on it,
08:09 but he's threading it through the guard.
08:13 And even an onion gave him a little look like,
08:15 hey, that was a nice tricky shot.
08:16 - Big Armenian population, of course, in Los Angeles,
08:22 especially in the backyard of the world famous wildcard gym.
08:26 Round number three of our co-main event of the evening.
08:29 - Also Pepe Riley in the corner of an onion.
08:31 He's a '92 Olympian.
08:33 - Yep.
08:35 - Saw him doing his road work earlier today.
08:37 Paulie and I went to get ours in.
08:39 He was already out there running.
08:41 - I did road work too.
08:41 I drove from the hotel over here on the road.
08:45 So I got my road work in too.
08:47 - Once a fighter, always a fighter.
08:48 Once a hockey player, always a hockey player.
08:50 Right, Colby?
08:51 - That's exactly right.
08:51 - Baez checks for a cut as a clash of heads.
08:53 Yet another thing we're gonna have in this fight as well
08:56 is that lefty for Friday matchup.
08:57 We gotta be careful with the clash of heads,
08:59 especially with these guys who are starting
09:00 to inch closer and closer and fighting each other
09:02 at closer range.
09:03 - Now something I've noticed from Anonyon's past fights,
09:07 he tends to get into brawls more than he needs to.
09:11 He did that in the Super Heel Matias fight,
09:12 the first fight, it worked out well.
09:13 Did not work out in the rematch though.
09:15 - Yeah, I don't know if you wanna get yourself
09:17 into a brawl with a guy who's got 17 KOs and 19 wins as well
09:20 is you gotta pick your shots better.
09:22 Especially Baez, like you said,
09:24 he's starting to get comfortable
09:25 and starting to pick his shots a little bit more fluidly.
09:28 - Couple years ago, Anonyon got into a war
09:30 with a local Bronx fighter, Daniel Gonzalez,
09:33 and those guys are going back and forth,
09:35 standing in the middle of the ring,
09:36 banging each other around.
09:38 A fight that he probably could have made a lot easier,
09:40 but got dragged into a war.
09:41 - And that fight was in the middle of the two fights
09:44 with Matias and still Anonyon the only man to beat Matias
09:49 and he was stopped in the rematch as we talked about.
09:52 - Tell you that, Baez is going with that left hand
09:54 to the body from the south post stance.
09:55 He's been throwing it a lot.
09:57 He's been getting it in.
09:57 It's been one of his more effective shots.
09:59 There it is again.
10:00 Another nice shot there to the body with the left hand.
10:03 Anonyon's gonna have to either start watching it a little bit
10:05 or maybe look to catch and shoot.
10:06 Make sort of an adjustment or maybe change range.
10:09 'Cause Baez is starting to set it up more and more
10:11 and it's landing pretty effectively, consistently.
10:12 And that's gonna take a toll if he keeps doing that.
10:15 - Right on cue there, champion.
10:16 As you mentioned it, he threw it.
10:18 And that's a tough spot
10:19 'cause that's going to the liver side.
10:20 It's the rear hand, but from a south pole position,
10:23 that's the liver side on the right.
10:24 - Yeah, that's where the righties get you
10:25 with those hooks to the body.
10:27 Lefties will sometimes do it as well.
10:29 - And left hook to left hook,
10:31 whether it comes to the front or the back.
10:32 - There it is again.
10:33 - Very tricky shot.
10:34 - And I feel like, you know,
10:37 Anonyon is an opportunity there to catch and shoot with it
10:41 on the counter.
10:41 But if he keeps that elbow in tight,
10:43 Baez throws it a little bit wide.
10:45 You can maybe catch it on the arm
10:46 and shoot back with your own right hand.
10:47 But nothing coming back on the side of Anonyon.
10:50 And it could also be because Baez sometimes mixes
10:53 the left hand to the head.
10:54 So it makes it harder time if he's gonna go to his body
10:56 or to the head with it.
10:57 - And that's a tricky shot too,
10:59 'cause you get touched with a couple of those
11:00 and it makes you pin your right arm.
11:02 Kind of takes it away.
11:04 The guy, you don't wanna get it away from home
11:05 because you're gonna get hit with that shot.
11:07 - Champ, you read my mind.
11:08 I was just gonna say,
11:09 it ends up making Anonyon not throw his right hand.
11:12 Then he's not really been as active with the right hand.
11:15 Then it's allowed Baez to start, like you said earlier,
11:17 taking control of the real estate in the ring.
11:20 - It's like whoever you were talking to on the phone
11:22 hung up an hour ago, Chris,
11:24 but you're not gonna take the phone off your ear.
11:26 - Yeah, keep that phone at home.
11:28 - You got it.
11:29 Freddie Roach, one of the greatest of all time,
11:33 eight division world champion.
11:35 Manny Pacquiao, of course,
11:36 five time four division world champion.
11:39 Miguel Cotto, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
11:42 and worked with George St. Pierre for a while.
11:45 - Here we see some more action from round number three.
11:47 There's that exact shot we were talking about, champ.
11:50 - Yeah, and it's been the go-to shot for Baez.
11:52 There's another one there.
11:54 I was right on the liver side.
11:56 - Those ones hurt when you're stretched out like that
11:57 and you're throwing and it hits you.
11:58 Those are brutal.
11:59 - And Ananye not showing it in his body language
12:04 that he's bothered,
12:05 but he's gonna have to show a little bit something more here
12:08 if he's gonna win this fight.
12:09 - Well, he may not be showing it in his body language
12:11 or maybe his face,
12:11 but in terms of his output and return fire,
12:14 he is showing it.
12:14 - Yeah, good point.
12:15 And as the fight wears on,
12:17 if he keeps taking those kinds of shots,
12:19 it's gonna start to affect him more and more.
12:21 Especially you want, like I said,
12:22 you want to start to counter some of those shots of Baez
12:24 so that you at least make him gun shy
12:25 and not as confident to throw them.
12:27 - Speaking of Freddie Roach,
12:28 I remember when I fought Ruslan Pravotnikov
12:30 and Freddie was opposite the corner and me.
12:33 Ruslan had hit me with a left hook and smashed my orbital.
12:36 From then on, I kept my right hand pinned to that punch.
12:39 Took my right hand away.
12:40 I barely used my right hand in that fight
12:41 'cause I had to protect myself from that left hook.
12:43 - Phone home, right?
12:44 - Yep, phone home.
12:45 Phone home or go home.
12:46 - Ooh, and you're mad at Freddie
12:49 'cause he taught your opponent that punch, right?
12:52 - Nah, me and Freddie, we're cool.
12:53 We're cool.
12:54 It's like I got the win that night, so.
12:56 - There you go. - I can't be that mad.
12:56 - There you go, broken orbital or not, right?
12:58 - He got it back though in the Pacquiao fight.
13:00 - And Baez still getting more and more active
13:02 with that left hand and Ananyan, no answer for it.
13:05 - Freddie always a joy to visit with, to talk to.
13:10 - Ooh!
13:11 - Good left hand over the top from Baez.
13:12 - But his fighter starting to take some big punches
13:16 from the Venezuelan Christian Baez.
13:19 - At least Ananyan tried that counter right hand there.
13:22 Although now he's gone right to the south post stance
13:24 from Baez.
13:25 - Baez is a lot trickier than I saw on tape.
13:27 He is looking very smooth tonight.
13:29 - And you see he's making Ananyan miss
13:31 right from close range, which can really bother you
13:33 because you can't get the guy off you
13:34 and yet you're not able to hit him
13:36 the way you wanna hit him.
13:38 - Black trunks for Petros Ananyan,
13:40 17-3-2 with eight finishes.
13:43 Gray and black trunks for Christian Baez.
13:46 19-2 with 17 knockouts.
13:50 - We spoke about urgency in the last fight.
13:52 You mentioned a couple of times, Champ,
13:53 about Schwarzberg and Galichan.
13:55 I mean, we're looking into that kind of territory
13:58 with Ananyan in here 'cause he's gonna have
14:01 to make something happen.
14:02 - Yeah, yeah, and he seems like he's sort of out of answers.
14:05 You know, he turned south post a few seconds ago,
14:07 didn't really do anything out of the south post stance.
14:09 Now he's back on the right handed stance.
14:10 But again, Baez throwing those left hands consistently
14:14 and really not having to pay any kind of price
14:16 for throwing them and not having to, you know,
14:18 you're not creating doubt in Baez's ability
14:20 to throw a left hand.
14:21 There's a good right hand by Ananyan.
14:22 He needs more of that.
14:24 - Baez took it well though.
14:24 But another left hook to the body.
14:26 Jeez, he sneaks that in nice.
14:28 - He really, and that's a perfect way to say it, partner.
14:31 He sneaks it in.
14:32 - And that's one thing, you know,
14:35 when you got a guy in front of you who's got good power
14:38 and he's consistently landing,
14:40 but also you're not landing back.
14:41 He's making you miss.
14:43 So it's one thing, maybe if he's not hurting you
14:45 or you're not showing it,
14:46 but then also you're not able to get it back.
14:48 - But you gotta break up the rhythm.
14:49 Like I said, you're not, oh, then another good body shot.
14:51 Not bring it up to the rhythm.
14:52 So you're not countering.
14:53 Maybe drop some feints, change the look,
14:55 change the distance, do something.
14:56 I mean, it's Ananyan's on the same gear all the time.
14:59 Whatever gear he's fighting in,
15:00 which is like second or third gear,
15:01 he's staying in that gear and he's not really changing it.
15:04 And Baez has the timing on this gear already.
15:05 - And Baez hasn't missed it
15:07 about the last 30 to 40 seconds.
15:09 - You see the confidence of Baez growing moment by moment,
15:12 especially here.
15:13 - Great finish to the round for Christian Baez.
15:20 (speaking in foreign language)
15:22 - Great start to the fight for Christian Baez.
15:24 I think he's been in control throughout.
15:26 - And you see the rhythm Baez is in now.
15:28 He even, and that's another thing those feints will do.
15:30 If you drop those feints,
15:31 maybe it'll break up that rhythm a little bit.
15:33 You need to do something to break up that confidence,
15:35 but also break up that rhythm
15:37 'cause Baez works in that rhythm.
15:39 - And of course we always bring you boxing 24/7, 365.
15:44 Always bring you the top stories.
15:48 Last week, Jake Paul, Nate Diaz.
15:51 I say, Paulie and you and I texted,
15:55 I love Jake's attitude,
15:58 but I don't think Jake wants to go MMA against Nate.
16:00 - Nah, I would be surprised.
16:02 - Yeah.
16:03 - I don't think that lasts very long.
16:06 - I see a guillotine with the double flip again,
16:10 like we saw earlier from the former Ultimate Fighter winner.
16:14 But they put on a show and many watched.
16:18 Which is what it's all about.
16:20 - Our co-main event continues.
16:23 Our main event's still to come.
16:25 Main event's scheduled for 12 rounds.
16:26 A super featherweight matchup
16:29 between Otar Aronosian and Roger Gutierrez.
16:33 Fifth round between Ananian and Baez.
16:37 Ananian in the black trunks,
16:38 Baez in the gray and black trunks.
16:41 - Very low shot.
16:42 - Paulie talked about urgency a while back
16:45 and you're at the midway point of the fight
16:47 and already you need to put something on that gas pedal
16:51 if you're Petros Ananian.
16:52 - Yeah, I mean, beyond the first round,
16:55 it's gonna be really hard to give a round
16:56 to Ananian at this point.
16:58 Even the first round you probably could have gave to Baez.
17:01 - Ananian represented Russia in the amateurs,
17:04 Armenian born Russian national.
17:06 - Now you're starting to see the effect,
17:10 that body shot, you saw Ananian pull away from that fight.
17:13 That left hook to the liver.
17:14 He doesn't want to get hit with that shot anymore.
17:17 - And that's what we were talking about.
17:18 You eventually start to see some of the results
17:20 showing themselves if those body shots continue to land.
17:23 Good right hand by Ananian.
17:25 - But answered by a nice long combination by Baez.
17:28 - That short little counter right hand by Ananian
17:31 is the only punch he's been able to consistently land.
17:32 I mean, I think he's landed two or three of them,
17:34 but it's a nice short shot.
17:36 Looks like hard too, it's a hard shot.
17:37 - And he's not following it up really.
17:39 So Baez is able to come right back.
17:41 See the consistency,
17:43 even when Ananian does do something good here and there,
17:45 the consistency stays with Baez.
17:46 And that's what I mean about Ananian
17:48 needed to do something, anything,
17:50 to break up this rhythm of Baez.
17:52 - Yeah, and I'm starting to see
17:56 some hesitation from Ananian.
17:58 He's worried about that body shot.
18:00 It's starting to freeze him at times.
18:01 He's not moving his head afterwards.
18:03 - Ananian just landed a body shot on Baez,
18:07 but Baez seemed unfazed.
18:09 - I think part of that comes from Baez
18:12 just being so calm.
18:14 - Yeah, he's very, very calm, rolling with these shots.
18:15 - Great economy in motion.
18:17 - Yes.
18:18 - I don't want to get ahead of myself, guys,
18:19 but if this fight still keeps going like this,
18:20 I hope the judges are watching the fight
18:22 and not the fact that Freddie Roach is in the corner.
18:24 This is not a state that gets Freddie Roach that often.
18:26 So I'm just gonna put that out there now
18:28 and hope that I'm just being wild in my thoughts.
18:32 - That would be a shame
18:32 'cause Baez is really putting on
18:34 a wonderful performance so far.
18:35 That was heavy.
18:38 I don't know if you guys at home can hear it,
18:39 but these are heavy shots.
18:42 - And in our earlier version of Cisco Ebert and Molinaggi,
18:47 Roadhouse One, yes, Roadhouse Two,
18:50 with your favorite Irishman, Magic Man, not so much.
18:53 - Body shot combination by Baez, man.
18:58 - And Cisco Ebert, and then there was Roper, no?
19:00 - Yep, it was very nice.
19:03 We are all old, aren't we?
19:04 - Yeah, geez, as soon as I understood that,
19:06 I was like, oh boy.
19:07 - The youngins aren't gonna know what we're talking about.
19:11 (crowd chattering)
19:14 - Again, once in a while you see it,
19:16 but nothing to follow up really.
19:17 He attempted it there, he missed.
19:20 - Some of that urgency is starting to come out of Nanyan.
19:22 - But again, is it gonna be urgency with effort
19:26 or are you gonna put some skill behind the will?
19:30 Because you're gonna have to figure out ideas
19:33 to put Baez in bad situations.
19:34 It's not just gonna be effort.
19:36 (crowd chattering)
19:39 - See some of the action here,
19:42 previous round we're talking about that left hand by Baez.
19:45 You see, tripled it up there, three shots in a row by Baez.
19:48 And he gets close, he makes it count.
19:49 He takes those shots right there.
19:51 Left hand to the chest and the right hook to the body,
19:52 that's been something consistent as well.
19:54 And then of course, the same shot with a different angle
19:56 and ended with a left hook to the head at the end.
20:00 Again, the triple shot there
20:02 from a different angle from Baez.
20:04 He's throwing these left hands from all kinds
20:06 of weird angles and the versatility
20:08 and the differentiation on those shots
20:10 prevents Nanyan from being able to time them.
20:13 - Co-main event, Wednesday night fights
20:16 on your boxing channel, Pro Box TV.
20:19 Petros Nanyan, Christian Baez.
20:24 Round number six.
20:27 - Made a great point, champ,
20:32 about taking advantage of the opportunities.
20:33 How often do we see guys close the distance,
20:35 get to where they wanna be and then don't throw?
20:37 Baez is not doing that.
20:38 Baez is taking advantage fully of every opportunity.
20:41 - Yeah, a lot of times guys get close
20:42 and allow themselves to be put in a clinch
20:44 or just don't throw the shots.
20:46 But Baez has been consistently taking advantage
20:49 of the opportunities.
20:51 It's gonna be up to Nanyan, not just with effort,
20:52 but he's gonna have to think his way through this.
20:54 Baez is not the kind of guy
20:55 you're gonna be just with putting effort.
20:56 You're gonna have to think of the nice hook.
21:01 - That was a big hook landed by the Southpaw,
21:04 Christian Baez.
21:05 - And that's exactly what I'm talking about.
21:06 It's gonna take more than just effort
21:07 because if you're gonna put effort,
21:08 you're actually gonna walk into shots
21:09 like Nanyan did there with Baez.
21:11 He knows he's behind Nanyan,
21:12 so he's trying to fight with some urgency.
21:15 But if it's just effort and not thinking,
21:17 you're gonna walk into the power of Baez.
21:20 - Ooh, and all the body shots landed by Baez.
21:22 Sooner or later, Christian knew that that hook
21:25 was gonna be wide open to land and he does it again.
21:28 - Say what you will about Nanyan.
21:31 He's gotta be in phenomenal shape
21:32 'cause he's taken a lot of body shots.
21:35 - He is definitely known as a very strong,
21:37 durable, tough Armenian.
21:39 Good jab.
21:41 - It's kind of redundant.
21:41 - Yeah, it is.
21:42 - Tough, strong Armenian.
21:43 I think they all are.
21:44 - Exactly.
21:45 Find a couple that aren't.
21:46 - We got one in the main event, right?
21:47 Georgia Armenian.
21:48 - Yep.
21:49 - And a Venezuelan, right?
21:50 Yeah, we got a Venezuelan and an Armenian
21:51 in the main event.
21:54 - Otar Arnozian.
21:55 - That's the rivalry tonight.
21:56 - Apparently.
21:57 - Although Arnozian's born in Georgia.
22:00 - Right.
22:01 - He's Armenian by genetics.
22:04 - Not Atlanta.
22:05 - Yeah, exactly.
22:07 - Yes, yes.
22:08 Thanks for clearing that up.
22:10 - I am good in my role of captain obvious, you guys.
22:13 Baez is so relaxed, so impressive to watch.
22:18 - And you see that left one-two down the middle
22:21 and then Nanyan says bring it.
22:23 So this time on the return fire,
22:25 while Baez on the follow up, it's a jab
22:27 and then a left uppercut instead of down the middle,
22:29 straight.
22:30 That's what I mean about he's mixing it up
22:31 and then now a big left hand straight by Baez again.
22:34 That's what I mean.
22:34 He's been mixing up those left hands, guys.
22:36 - Yeah, Baez is a true Southpaw.
22:38 You can tell he is left-handed,
22:39 but he doesn't disregard his right hand.
22:42 He sets up those left hands,
22:44 but he mixes them up beautifully.
22:45 - In 22 professional bouts,
22:47 going back to what Chris talked about,
22:49 the toughness of the Armenian,
22:52 Petros Nanyan has only been stopped one time.
22:55 - By one of the baddest guys in the division,
22:58 Subrio Matias.
22:59 - Right.
23:00 - Who he holds the only victory against.
23:02 The IBF junior welterweight champion since February.
23:07 - And champ, you made a good point about Baez
23:10 doesn't disregard the right hand.
23:11 As a matter of fact, he was very well
23:12 when Nanyan rushes in,
23:14 Baez a lot of times times him with that right hook
23:17 and stops that momentum.
23:19 - He found that about three rounds ago.
23:21 And he's been landing it.
23:22 (bell rings)
23:28 - Nanyan tried to put in more effort that round.
23:30 I don't know if he won it though.
23:32 Baez did some good work in response.
23:34 - Very dangerous, there's that shot we just spoke about.
23:44 Very dangerous to allow a guy like Baez,
23:46 who has power to get comfortable.
23:49 Because in the early on,
23:50 he wasn't exactly sure of his style.
23:52 He was smooth, but now he's very confident,
23:55 very comfortable with what's in front of him.
23:57 And it's starting to really set down on those shots.
23:58 When you see a guy timing you with a right hook
24:00 from the outside, that spells trouble.
24:03 - Set for round number seven of our co-main event.
24:10 Talked about our main event still to come.
24:13 In two weeks, our main event will feature
24:16 two fighters with a combined record of 25 and 0.
24:20 Leonardo Ruiz and Raul Garcia.
24:26 Mike Goldberg, The Magic Man, Paulie Molinaggi,
24:28 Chris Algieri.
24:30 Wednesday night fights on your boxing channel.
24:33 Pro Box TV from our world headquarters.
24:35 Still to come, there it is.
24:37 The main event, the winner becomes the mandatory
24:40 for a shot at a belt.
24:41 13 and 0, Otar Erinozian facing by far,
24:51 or set to face by far,
24:54 the toughest test of his professional career.
24:56 Body head from Baez.
24:59 - And an onion has to be careful
25:01 going straight back like that.
25:02 That's where Baez is able to repeat those left hands.
25:05 - This fight, I'm getting the feeling
25:11 that this is gonna come down to conditioning now,
25:13 in these last three and a half rounds.
25:16 - Yeah, and Onion's actually trying to push in more effort,
25:19 trying to test Baez's conditioning himself.
25:23 Landed that right hand again a moment ago.
25:26 Sticking that jab up in the face of his opponent,
25:39 then coming across with the left.
25:41 - When an onion holds his ground like right there,
25:43 with conjecture, he can shoot shots.
25:45 - Oh, that Bakulum.
25:47 - He hurt him, he hurt him.
25:48 - Baez hurt.
25:49 - He's still hurt.
25:49 - He's mad, yeah.
25:53 - Wow.
25:54 That's what an onion needed.
25:56 - What drama.
25:57 He's hurt.
25:58 He might not make it.
26:02 That's it.
26:04 - It is all over.
26:05 - Wow.
26:08 - Petros Anonyan finishes Christian Baez.
26:13 All it took was one big shot.
26:17 - He's still hurt, he's still hurt.
26:18 Wow, that's...
26:19 - You know, that's why I mentioned
26:21 that the conditioning was gonna play a part,
26:22 'cause I saw the steam started to come up
26:24 by us immediately in that round.
26:26 - And you made a great point earlier in the fight, Champ,
26:28 when you talked about Anonyan's conditioning,
26:29 because he's the one that took the body shots.
26:31 He would have thought Anonyan would have been the one
26:33 who maybe would have faded at the second half of the fight,
26:35 but Anonyan started growing just with the effort.
26:38 He started pushing more effort,
26:39 and Baez, just from that effort,
26:42 despite the fact that the skill wasn't really
26:45 displaying so much from Anonyan,
26:47 he was able to start to fatigue Baez.
26:49 There's a big hook, that led to that big hook, guys.
26:51 - It started with that short right hand
26:53 that we spoke about earlier.
26:54 That was the consistent shot, very, very short,
26:56 straight right hand down the middle
26:58 that was catching Baez in the chin from Anonyan,
27:00 and then he followed up this time.
27:01 Last time, you said he wasn't following up.
27:03 This time, he did, and it was the left hook
27:05 that had Baez in a world of hurt,
27:07 came back to the body, too.
27:08 That was it, Baez was very, very hurt.
27:12 - Yeah, and Goldie, you mentioned...
27:14 Bad to the right there, oof.
27:17 Big shot there.
27:18 Goldie, you mentioned that Baez been stopped twice,
27:21 and he missed losses.
27:23 So, you know, questionable chin.
27:24 He's got the skills, almost, you know,
27:26 guys just come up just short.
27:27 Sometimes you're missing just one little intangible,
27:30 and with Baez, it could be the chin.
27:31 I mean, in a fight that we had him
27:33 pretty much way ahead in the fight,
27:35 just gone, gone.
27:36 I mean, one knockdown and he's gone.
27:38 - And it was that right hand that,
27:41 little by little, he started to land more and more.
27:44 - Not for nothing, I mean,
27:45 Petros looked confident in himself throughout the night.
27:47 He wasn't like getting,
27:48 he didn't look like he was like,
27:50 "I'm in." - Well, I'm not gonna go as far
27:52 as to say confident, but I will say this.
27:53 But I remember I said earlier a few rounds,
27:55 his body language wasn't changing.
27:57 Like, it was like, "Okay, I might be behind,
27:58 but I'm not really worrying about it."
28:00 And I was gonna say, "All right,
28:02 well, when are we gonna see?"
28:03 Previous to this round, he gave a little bit more effort,
28:06 and all of a sudden, it caused Baez's energy
28:09 to just diminish just enough,
28:10 then he started getting caught.
28:11 - It took immediate advantage.
28:12 It's immediate. - Tough, strong,
28:14 durable Armenian.
28:14 I know it's redundant, but you just saw.
28:17 And he will get his arm raised.
28:18 - Official decision from Mark Lichtenfeld.
28:21 (bell ringing)
28:22 - Ladies and gentlemen, referee Michael DeJesus
28:25 reaches the count of 10 at one minute,
28:27 41 seconds of the seventh round.
28:30 Your winner by knockout,
28:32 El Ganador for knockout,
28:34 Petros Ananyan!
28:35 - Huge win for Petros Ananyan.
28:43 His ninth career knockout.
28:47 In a fight where he was behind on the scorecards.
28:50 - We assume.
28:51 - We assume.
28:52 That's true.
28:53 I am learning that more and more each week with you, Pauly.
