20 Minecraft Tricks That Actually Work!
Transcript
00:00 20 dumb Minecraft hacks that actually work.
00:02 Sometimes an idea seems silly on paper,
00:04 but great in execution.
00:05 And in a game like Minecraft,
00:07 plenty of those oddballs can work out.
00:09 And that's what we'll see today.
00:10 And hey, as you can see from this number,
00:11 we are getting painfully close to 4 million subscribers.
00:14 It's so close we could hit it next week if you subscribe.
00:16 So if you enjoy the video,
00:17 consider checking that red sub button below.
00:19 It's free and it helps out a ton.
00:21 Number one, llamas are neutral mobs,
00:22 which means they only become hostile when provoked.
00:25 And lucky for us,
00:26 using llamas to create armchairs doesn't provoke them.
00:28 Now putting one of these in your living room
00:29 by itself doesn't quite do the job,
00:31 but surprisingly all we need is a splash of invisibility
00:34 to do the trick.
00:35 When under this effect, we can only see the carpet,
00:37 letting us get a proper selection of cushions
00:38 for your sofa.
00:39 And while the methods might be questionable,
00:41 it's hard to deny the results.
00:43 And with the help of commands,
00:44 we can keep these llama helpers invisible long enough
00:46 for the guests to arrive.
00:47 So if you're tired of squatting on yet another stair,
00:49 this might be the best solution.
00:50 Number two, most people build their elevators
00:52 the old fashioned way.
00:53 And the original water elevator
00:55 is about as classic as they come.
00:56 But if you've got a few hundred bottles of honey
00:58 lying around, you might want to keep this trick in mind.
01:00 See, if we were to take all of these honey bottles
01:02 and make them into a honey block,
01:03 you'd notice that they don't quite have a full hit box.
01:05 And if you place two honey blocks like so,
01:07 you can see that where they almost meet,
01:09 a player's hit box is able to interact with the water inside,
01:11 letting us lift up almost like magic.
01:13 And by doing this, we get to play around a lot more
01:15 with how our standard water elevator looks anyway.
01:17 Since if you wanted to,
01:18 you could add a map art item frame
01:20 and completely hide the inside.
01:22 And at that point, it really does seem like magic.
01:24 Number three, thinking of the right name for a pet
01:26 can be tough work.
01:27 So if you're really strapped for options,
01:28 this might be a good fallback.
01:29 All we'll need is a bit of ingenuity
01:31 and a complete lack of remorse.
01:32 See, if we were to take one of the name tags
01:34 that we got from exploring and put it into an anvil,
01:36 then all we've got to do is go into our settings,
01:38 change our native language,
01:39 and then rewrite the name of the name tag as, well, name tag.
01:42 And then once we change our language back,
01:44 you notice that we're finally able to name a name tag,
01:46 name tag, and use it as a name tag for our new animal.
01:49 So if you want to circumvent this one Mojang rule,
01:52 I guess this is the way to do it.
01:53 Though I might add, your pet might hate you for it.
01:55 Number four, these ordinary fences work just fine
01:58 for keeping the friendly mobs in
01:59 and the unfriendly mobs out.
02:00 And really, that's all you need out of a fence.
02:02 But what if we want to lure the mobs
02:03 inside of the fenced area and then trap them there?
02:06 Well, wouldn't you know it, but with trap doors,
02:08 we can actually make a unique fence that does just that.
02:10 With trap doors lined up like such in the same direction,
02:12 all we have to do is wait for nightfall,
02:14 and then any zombie or creeper that stumbles into the trap
02:17 won't be able to escape.
02:18 And the reason being is because
02:19 they don't see these hit boxes
02:21 as something they're able to jump over.
02:22 And just like that, we're able to hop over with these
02:24 and we can keep the rest of our mobs inside
02:26 until we flip the gate.
02:27 And honestly, that's about all we need.
02:29 Number five, shulker boxes are good for far more
02:31 than just holding your loot.
02:32 And thanks to their hit boxes,
02:34 we can use these just as much as a block
02:35 as we would as a backpack.
02:37 So if you're playing on Bedrock,
02:38 you may be able to exploit an interesting bug
02:40 that allows us to walk through walls.
02:41 No joke, and the execution's actually quite simple.
02:44 All we need to do is place a shulker box on the side,
02:46 stand it against a wall,
02:47 and then open it up for us to be pushed through.
02:49 And sure enough, as the box expands,
02:51 we're pushed over to the other side,
02:52 and we can make quite the escape this way.
02:53 So if you're looking to get into your friend's base
02:55 to pull off a magic trick,
02:56 I think this does a good job at both.
02:58 Number six, the Minecraft community spends hours upon hours
03:01 to find new and creative ways
03:02 to frustrate the game's developers.
03:04 And the most recent example of this
03:05 is the updated double carpet glitch.
03:07 See, before Mojang patched the original,
03:09 we could use these double carpeted gaps
03:11 to freeze mobs in certain squares.
03:12 And that was a great help for keeping your villagers
03:14 stuck in one place in the trading hall.
03:16 But unfortunately, that glitch didn't last too long,
03:18 at least not in that format.
03:20 But now we can do basically the same thing
03:22 by just placing these carpets over bushes instead.
03:24 And really, whether you're trying to keep the peaceful
03:26 or the hostile mobs stuck in one place,
03:28 this just proves the berry bushes can do quite the trick.
03:30 Number seven, minecarts are most players' first experience
03:33 with using redstone.
03:34 And most players are perfectly fine
03:35 with using these railroads to get down to the mine shafts
03:37 or just around their base.
03:39 But if you're like me, fast isn't fast enough.
03:41 And thankfully, we don't need any kind of third-party help
03:43 to beef up our minecarts.
03:45 But rather, by just arranging the tracks in little circles,
03:47 we can glitch out the minecarts to move at serious speeds.
03:50 And while you might want to pop an aspirin for the whiplash,
03:52 it's a small price to pay
03:53 to move around your base this fast.
03:55 And hey, with the help of a boat,
03:56 we can even do this in a two-person minecart.
03:58 So both you and a friend can enjoy
03:59 the high-powered rails as a team.
04:00 Just one piece of advice, don't try this out on VR.
04:03 Number eight, by this point,
04:04 I'm sure plenty of us are guilty of kidnapping villagers.
04:07 And while the most straightforward and common way to do that
04:09 is by nudging them into boats,
04:10 this might be something to reconsider.
04:11 Because if you have a herd of cows laying around,
04:13 we could get them to do the kidnapping for us.
04:16 By guiding around a group of animals with some kind of food,
04:18 we can surround the villager
04:19 and lure them to wherever we want, even through water.
04:21 And if you wanted to,
04:22 you could even do this with several villagers at once,
04:24 which is crazy, but if you want to cut down on trips,
04:27 it might be necessary.
04:28 So whether you got cows, pigs,
04:29 or sheeps on hand to help you out,
04:30 any of those should do the trick.
04:31 We just wouldn't recommend doing it with goats.
04:33 Otherwise, that villager might get rammed into a ravine.
04:36 Number nine, pillagers are some of the hardest mobs to beat
04:38 if you're early in the game.
04:39 And those crossbows can pack a mean punch.
04:41 But if you have a boat in the spare time,
04:43 we can actually disarm these pillagers
04:45 and then let them loose.
04:46 See, just like the crossbows that you and I use,
04:47 these pillagers' weapons have a durability limit
04:50 similar to any other tool in the game.
04:51 And by placing them inside that boat,
04:53 they'll harmlessly empty their quiver
04:55 and destroy that entire boat.
04:56 And then after disarming the pillagers,
04:58 us and Java can turn them free
04:59 and leave them to wander aimlessly throughout the village
05:01 for the next few days.
05:02 And believe me, this is definitely the weirdest way
05:04 to get through a pillager raid.
05:05 But in my eyes, he'll still be the hero of the village.
05:07 Number 10, Mojang has never cared much
05:09 for the laws of physics.
05:10 And there've been plenty of posts made
05:12 complaining about these nonsensical bits in Minecraft.
05:14 I mean, we're even guilty of that ourselves.
05:16 But who among us would complain
05:17 about being able to become an actual waterbender?
05:20 See, by using sticky pistons and honey blocks,
05:22 we can make the water fall however we want it to.
05:24 And then once you remove it, it'll actually stay that way.
05:27 Simply build your structure, pour some water over top,
05:29 and then break all of the blocks
05:30 that you used when you're done.
05:31 I mean, if you wanted to, you could use lava as well
05:33 to make your own kind of modern art piece.
05:35 Though to me, it looks more like a fire hazard.
05:37 And really, however you choose to use this trick,
05:39 it's sure to impress even the most seasoned of players.
05:41 Number 11, there are really only so many ways
05:43 to build a farm in Minecraft.
05:45 And eventually, the whole process
05:46 does tend to get a bit repetitive.
05:48 So why don't we flip that whole notion on its head?
05:50 Literally.
05:51 Apparently, if we use the dinnerbone Easter egg
05:53 that you get through the name tags,
05:54 we could make something of a peculiar site.
05:56 And sure enough, if you build your farm upside down
05:58 and then use a lead with a fence to keep those animals up,
06:01 it'll make the mobs look like they're defying gravity
06:03 and keep it up to the ceiling, which is wild to see.
06:05 But what's crazy is that it even works in survival.
06:07 And even if it's not cheating,
06:09 it's a trick that's sure to make your friends
06:10 and the local villagers a bit uncomfortable.
06:12 And as long as the leads don't break,
06:14 then I'm sure the animals will be on board for it too.
06:16 Number 12, cows and pigs are free roaming creatures
06:19 and they shouldn't be locked up together in a tight spot.
06:21 But for the sake of science, this isn't exactly free range.
06:23 Since as you can see, if we cram a bunch of entities
06:26 into a one by one square, we can create our own catapult
06:28 to launch us farther than any kind of TNT cannon.
06:31 And while it's not particularly humane,
06:33 the glitch does make for an impressive
06:34 and lightning fast getaway.
06:35 So at the very least,
06:36 if you're trying to escape those PETA charges,
06:38 this might do the trick.
06:39 Simply jump in the hole, activate your elytra,
06:41 and then point in the direction you wanna go.
06:43 And just like that, you'll shoot off into the sky.
06:45 Just make sure you don't cram one too many mobs
06:47 into the space.
06:48 Number 13, getting onto the nether roof
06:50 is a tricky business.
06:51 And while we typically use ender pearls,
06:53 those are expensive and painful.
06:54 So if you're on a budget, this might be the best way out.
06:56 Luckily, using this glitch, we can make it possible
06:59 to phase through just about any block, including bedrock.
07:01 See, since the hit boxes are so weird,
07:03 all we need to do is place a boat-like sow
07:05 underneath the composter, and just like that,
07:07 we gain ourselves a way right up to no man's land.
07:09 Which for a couple of planks is a lot easier to come by
07:11 than a set of ender pearls.
07:13 Just make sure you bring the materials to find a way out.
07:15 Otherwise, you'll be pretty trapped up there.
07:17 Number 14, if you know how to use it,
07:19 then redstone can open up a new world to Minecraft.
07:21 Truly, in the right hands, it's an amazing resource.
07:24 But as useful as it is,
07:25 sometimes redstone can be a bit unsightly.
07:27 But don't worry, with an item frame and a map,
07:29 it's possible to make that redstone basically invisible.
07:32 As you'll notice, item frames are entities like you and me,
07:34 meaning we can overlap their hit boxes
07:36 with the redstone like so.
07:37 And then once we add in some map art to match the floor,
07:39 we've got some unnoticeable redstone.
07:41 And honestly, I hope this will let some builders
07:43 finally mess around with the redstone side in their builds,
07:45 because that's a holy matrimony I'd be happy to see.
07:48 Number 15, when you attach a compass to a lodestone,
07:50 it can be immensely useful in some cases,
07:52 but it can also get immensely confusing
07:54 when there's more than one of them.
07:55 And if you forgot to name them,
07:57 then it's easy for even veteran players
07:58 to get mixed up between one lodestone compass with another.
08:01 And then you'll find yourself in a completely different biome.
08:03 But with the new bundles, we can stay easily organized
08:06 and keep track of what compass points where.
08:08 By putting the type of block
08:09 that the related compass points towards
08:10 in the slot above it,
08:11 you'll be able to avoid getting turned around a lot easier.
08:14 That way, if you're looking for the nether portal,
08:15 just look for the one that has netherrack above it,
08:17 and so on from there.
08:18 And once you get it set up,
08:19 it's a simple system to keep track of.
08:21 And once you do, it'll save you a ton of time and headaches.
08:24 Number 16, when you're playing with friends,
08:26 betrayal is an obvious choice.
08:28 And while the motives might be questionable,
08:29 the results can pay off big.
08:30 So to do just that,
08:32 why not swap out our pressure pads
08:33 for something a bit more secretive?
08:35 See, even if there's a carpet on top,
08:36 this redstone ore still triggers the same way
08:38 when you walk over it.
08:39 Meaning if we face an observer the right way,
08:41 we can make something of a death trap hidden near your rug.
08:43 And while it might take some time to cool down,
08:45 it only has to work once to do the trick.
08:47 Just make sure the trap you plan has enough firepower
08:49 to take out that victim.
08:50 Otherwise, you're gonna have one very angry person
08:52 looking for revenge.
08:53 Number 17, glow lichen is one of the more
08:55 underappreciated features in the Caves and Cliffs update.
08:58 And while it isn't as flashy as the others,
09:00 that doesn't mean we can't find a use for it.
09:01 And up here on the surface,
09:02 we don't need it for lighting up.
09:03 So I think this does the trick instead.
09:05 See, by lining our walls with some of this stuff,
09:07 we can block out the water flow from the bubble elevator
09:10 and get a seamless path towards the entrance.
09:12 And hey, it's a lot less intrusive than a sign,
09:14 so I'd count this as the better option.
09:16 So if you've already got a well-lit base,
09:17 this might be used for that chest of lichen
09:19 you've been hoarding.
09:20 Number 18, as Minecraft is a game of blocks,
09:22 then building works off something of a grid system.
09:24 But just because it's what Mojang intended,
09:26 doesn't mean we have to obey.
09:27 And what better way to rebel
09:29 than by creating off-center blocks?
09:30 See, with the way that stairs overlap,
09:32 it's possible to mimic the look
09:33 of an off-the-grid block like so.
09:35 And while the blocks that we can do this with
09:36 are limited to the ones with stair variants,
09:38 that still gives us plenty of variety.
09:40 And as simple as it is to use,
09:42 this method can really add a nice touch to your house.
09:44 So while I doubt we'll see real off-center blocks
09:46 from Mojang going forward,
09:47 that won't at least stop you from turning some heads
09:49 when you show this off at the next build showcase.
09:51 Number 19, a shield can be a valuable asset
09:53 for your offhand slot,
09:54 but the limited mobility that comes with
09:56 is something of a downside.
09:57 So to avoid that,
09:58 we might need to use this nether portal solution.
10:00 As you'll see, if we step through the portal
10:02 with our shield engaged,
10:03 then once we reach the other side,
10:05 it'll still be functional.
10:06 But now with an extra feature,
10:07 because now we're able to sprint and attack
10:09 as we would without it.
10:10 And that can clearly help to work
10:11 through the next nether fortress.
10:13 Hey, you might even consider using this solution
10:14 the next time you're raiding your friend's base.
10:16 Just be careful you don't accidentally engage
10:18 your shield again during PVP.
10:20 That kind of mistake could land you right back at spawn.
10:22 Number 20, nobody likes being on the receiving end
10:24 of knockback, but while it's a pain to be tossed around,
10:26 this might make it necessary.
10:27 See, in Bedrock, it's possible to repeatedly punch
10:30 against your buddy's shield.
10:31 So if we do that, we can use the knockback
10:33 that we receive as something of a boost to the new heights.
10:35 And then we could alternate our positions with them
10:37 to net some serious verticality.
10:39 And it might just be the way you and your pal escape
10:41 out of any future rock and a hard place.
10:43 And the best part about it is
10:44 that this is basically just an unintentional feature.
10:46 So it's not a glitch that's gonna get patched.
10:48 But whether Mojang takes it out or not,
10:50 one thing is for certain,
10:51 it's a trick that's sure to give you and your friends
10:53 quite the boost.
10:54 And with that folks, have a good one.
