00:00 Graffiti, a bold, explosive art that can use anywhere as its canvas.
00:06 When done legally and with proper guidance, it can breathe new life into your everyday
00:11 environment.
00:13 Local street artist, Graham Upton, with the help of young people around Maidstone, looked
00:18 to do just that to Watmore Park with the new Revamp the Ramps workshop.
00:24 I'm working with Maidstone Borough Council to decorate the skateboard park in some decent
00:30 graffiti art, some street art and teaching young people how to do it responsibly as well,
00:37 so in order to get permission to ask Maidstone Borough Council.
00:43 And to come up with some nice designs, take some ideas from the young people who are down
00:46 here too and also teach them how to spray it properly.
00:52 Decorational activities like this have been set up to help those between 11 and 16 years
00:59 of age to make the most of their summer holidays.
01:02 Yeah, I think it's really important.
01:04 We were lucky enough to get some Safer Streets funding to run some workshops.
01:08 We did a number of street art workshops like this on Buckland Hill with three local schools,
01:15 so it's really important to give the kids something interesting to do in the summer
01:19 holidays and workshops like this are really vital, so it teaches them how to do something
01:25 they might not otherwise have an opportunity to try.
01:28 Those involved today definitely got a lot out of the experience.
01:31 What's been your favourite part of today Ruby?
01:35 Basically just learning an entire new skill and just feeling a part of something that's
01:39 going to be here for a very long time.
01:41 It's just mainly been able to actually design and draw the thing on the ramp, because it's
01:48 always been something I'm really interested in but I've never actually been able to properly
01:51 do it, so it's actually been really fun.
01:54 My mum signed me up and I really asked her to sign me up because I've always been really
01:58 interested in art.
02:00 Revamp the Ramps has set out to prove that leaving your mark has the power to wow the
02:04 public when done the right way.
02:07 Great artwork is always spotted head on and this caught my eye the moment I stepped into
02:13 Whatman Park this afternoon.
