00:02 - There's a new film in some theaters around the country.
00:06 This one is called "Kids".
00:07 It has a nice innocent sound,
00:09 but it's not about innocence, far from it.
00:12 - My name is Hamilton Chungo Harris.
00:14 I was the one rolling up the blunt in the film.
00:16 I grew up in poverty.
00:17 - The city was not fun back then.
00:18 - It was like a jungle in my house.
00:20 - All of us from our crew have like crazy background
00:22 and crazy stories.
00:23 - Skateboard is something that you get on
00:26 and you can ride away from what was going on at home.
00:30 - We took care of each other.
00:31 We didn't stop.
00:32 We were just together like 24/7.
00:34 - My very first impression of Larry
00:37 when I first saw him around taking photos
00:39 was just like, "Yo, who's the grandpa?"
00:42 - You just saw this group of like crazy skateboarding kids.
00:44 The energy is crazy.
00:45 - He's in taxi.
00:46 (car door slams)
00:47 - He saw dollar signs.
00:48 - Harold said, "Yo, this is my friend Harmony.
00:50 He's going to NYU film school."
00:52 - Larry was gonna be making a movie
00:54 and we were gonna be in it.
00:56 - A lot of us came from nothing to, you know,
00:57 I was looking at this like, "Oh, I'm gonna be somebody now.
01:00 This is my way out."
01:01 - When I went to the casting, the character was my name.
01:04 - He was casting for the girls' parts.
01:07 We got rape and misogyny.
01:09 Yay.
01:10 And then all of these other people just started coming in
01:12 from the outside.
01:13 - I didn't really look at the big picture.
01:16 - The movie's huge and the response to it was insane.
01:22 - It's very scary.
01:23 - Movie paints a tragic picture
01:25 of mindless, aimless, violent, and destructive behavior.
01:28 - Is this real?
01:29 - Do you know you're on the cover of Newsweek?
01:31 - People just started saying things to me like,
01:32 "You're the girl who was in that movie."
01:34 - It brought an element that was way over our heads.
01:39 - Now we go to parties where like, you know,
01:43 Leonardo DiCaprio are hanging out.
01:45 - There's people that are like,
01:46 "Oh, I'll sell you world.
01:47 I'll sell you dreams."
01:49 - We were stars, but we had nothing.
01:53 - I could hear that he was lonely.
01:57 - Like he was in just a tremendous amount of pain.
02:00 - I thought all of this stuff was supposed to
02:04 make our lives better and enrich us.
02:06 Somebody's gonna get hurt from me.
02:09 (screaming)
02:11 - I wish it never happened.
02:14 (dramatic music)
02:17 you
