Flagship Sports Car Introduced with 2+2 Seats, AWD and 577 HP, New Mercedes AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ 2024

AMG's flagship sports car debuted with up to 577 hp, 2+2 seating arrangement and standard all-wheel drive.

The new GT remains instantly recognizable, although every part of the bodywork has been redesigned. The angry face features a Panamericana grille with a glossy black extension underneath, reminiscent of the old Black Series. The headlights have softer curves, while the slim taillights are now linked by a trim piece under the active rear spoiler. The model has 20-inch wheels as standard, but is also available with optional 21-inch alloy wheels.

Despite the familiar looks and proportions, the AMG GT is based on a new architecture made of aluminum, steel, magnesium and fiber composites (glass and carbon) that provides extra space and a larger trunk for the 2+2 layout.

Speaking of the interior, the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the instrument cluster with the 11.9-inch infotainment display are carried over from the SL. The AMG Performance steering wheel and bucket seats with optionally ventilated integrated headrests create a premium yet sporty atmosphere. As with most 2+2 models, the rear space looks rather cramped, as the rear seats are suitable for children or individuals up to 1.5 m (4.9 feet) tall. Cargo capacity ranges from 321 liters (11.3 cubic feet) to 675 liters (23.8 cubic feet), making it suitable for longer journeys.

The sports car is now exclusively available with a 9-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission, which is mounted behind the engine and has a wet start clutch instead of a torque converter. Unlike its rear-wheel drive predecessor, the GT now comes standard with the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The standard kit also includes technological highlights such as the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with active roll stabilization, an electronically controlled rear locking differential, active rear axle steering and active aerodynamics.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT is expected to arrive in the US in the first half of 2024. Pricing has yet to be announced, but the sports car is expected to be more expensive than the equivalent SL roadster.
