Assault on women has emerged as a critical and widespread issue in our nation. From incidents like the disgraceful incident of a woman being publicly humiliated in Manipur to the alarming prevalence of rape cases, particularly notable in Rajasthan, this problem demands our immediate attention. These distressing facts are not my own, but rather statistics provided by the National Crime Records Bureau in the year 2021.
In a shocking incident in Rajasthan's Dausa district, a police constable, identified as Mahesh Kumar Gurjar, found himself entangled in a web of allegations that led to a brutal confrontation with locals. The police officer is now on the run because he has been accused of raping a married woman. This situation has caused a lot of anger among the public and the authorities are also taking action.
As PTI reported, Authorities say that the troubling event happened when Constable Gurjar supposedly went into the house of a 30-year-old woman in Baswa on a Tuesday night. The woman was by herself, and it's said that Gurjar forced her into a sexual act. When the woman's cries for help spread through the area, alert neighbors caught the constable. Shortly after, the victim's family members came back home and got involved in the conflict, attacking Gurjar physically

The situation became more serious when the constable was tied to a bed, representing the strong anger of the local people. This scene was like a powerful symbol of people taking the law into their own hands. It showed a moment when many people were very angry about what they believed the constable had done wrong. Police officers from Baswa station then came and saved Gurjar from the angry crowd. He was checked by doctors and surprisingly let go after that.
However, the incident's gravity soon came to the fore as the victim officially reported the assault, prompting swift action. The station house officer (SHO) of Baswa police station faced suspension due to his alleged failure to promptly report the incident to higher-ups on Tuesday itself. Alongside the SHO, Gurjar also faced suspension from his duties at a different police station.

According to a report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), in the year 2021, the highest number of rape cases in the country were registered in Rajasthan and their number increased by more than 19 percent as compared to the previous year (2020). According to NCRB report, Rajasthan ranks second after Uttar Pradesh in overall crimes against women, while it continues to rank first in the country in reported cases of rape.

According to this, out of total 31,677 rape cases registered across the country in the year 2021, 6337 were in Rajasthan, while 2845 rape cases were registered in Uttar Pradesh. In the year 2020, the registered cases of rape in Rajasthan were 5310 and in 2021 it increased by 19.34 percent.

00:44 I am Sourav George.
00:45 As PTI reported, authorities say that the troubling event happened when constable Gurjar
00:51 supposedly went into the house of a 30-year-old woman in Baswa on Tuesday night.
00:56 The woman was alone at her house.
00:58 It's said that Gurjar forced her into a sexual act.
01:01 When the woman's cry for help spread throughout the area, alert tables caught the constable.
01:06 Shortly after, the victim's family members came back home and got involved in the conflict,
01:11 attacking Gurjar physically.

01:22 of people taking the law into their own hands.

01:31 It showed a moment when many people were very angry about what they believed the constable
01:36 had done wrong.
01:37 Police officers from Baswa station then came and saved Gurjar from the angry crowd.
01:41 He was checked by doctors and surprisingly let go after that.
01:45 However, the incident's gravity soon came to the force as the victim officially reported
01:50 the assault, prompting swift action.

02:04 According to a report by the National Crime Record Bureau, in the year 2021, the highest
02:10 number of rape cases in the country were registered in Rajasthan, at the number increased by more
02:15 than 19% in the year 2020.
02:19 According to the NCRB report, Rajasthan ranks second after Uttar Pradesh in overall crimes
02:24 against women, while it continues to rank first in the country in reported cases of
02:30 rape.
02:31 According to this, out of total 31,677 rape cases registered across the country in the
02:37 year 2021, 6,337 were in Rajasthan, while 2,845 rape cases were registered in Uttar
02:46 Pradesh.
02:46 In the year 2020, the registered cases of rape in Rajasthan were 5,310 and in 2021,
02:53 it increased by 19.34%.
02:55 In Rajasthan, one reason might be that there aren't enough women police officers.
03:01 When a woman gets hurt, she might want to tell a woman police officer about it.
03:06 But in Rajasthan, there are only a few women police officers, just about 7.11% of all the
03:12 police officers, which is a small number compared to the total of 92,330 police officers.
03:18 In this particular case that unfolded in Rajasthan, a distressing event occurred where a police
03:25 constable allegedly assaulted a 30-year-old married woman.
03:30 Subsequently, he was allowed to evade authorities and remain unreachable.
03:34 The implications of this incident for our society and nation are concerning.
03:39 It raises the question of whether administrative individuals engaging in such heinous acts
03:45 could potentially escape accountability, similar to what has transpired here.
03:50 It's important to note that the administration functions under the government's oversight.
03:56 In Rajasthan, the current government is led by the Congress party with Chief Minister
04:01 Ashok Gyalot at the helm.
04:02 The situation underscores the need for accountability mechanisms, especially considering
04:09 the involvement of a police constable in the assault.
04:12 That's all for the news report.
