Flag Day: Protocol of How the UAE Flag Should Be Flown

UAE Flag Day is commemorated every November 3rd since its launch in 2013 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It marks the date when His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan became President of the United Arab Emirates in 2004.

00:12 The UAE flag was originally designed by Abdullah Mohamed Al-Mahina, who was 19 years old at

00:18 Its design was one of many competing to become the official symbol to mark the country's

00:23 He understood the essence and the importance of the UAE's flag, and so put all his efforts
00:27 to win the competition.
00:29 He later went on to become the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
00:32 The new flag was originally raised for the first time on December 2, 1971 by the country's
00:37 founding father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
00:42 Representing unity, the Pan-Arab colors are a staple sight in all national, religious,
00:46 social, sports, and other events held in the United Arab Emirates.
