00:06 >> It's been a long time since January 29th,
00:08 what was it like to get back out there and get back in?
00:10 >> Yeah, no, it felt really good just to be out there with the guys in a game
00:15 environment.
00:16 Obviously just get the nerves out a little bit, just the build up to a game and
00:21 everything and then being able to get an early completion to debo and
00:25 get things rolling.
00:25 So it felt really good to be able to get out there and drive.
00:28 And honestly just be in a game environment, like I said.
00:32 So yeah, I'm excited about it.
00:34 >> Were these regular nerves or any different nerves just to the situation?
00:38 >> Yeah, just the game nerves, your first game action obviously,
00:43 since the postseason last year and everything.
00:47 So to be able to get out there and sort of shake all that kind of stuff off,
00:52 is normal stuff, normal pregame nerves and stuff just like any other game, so.
00:56 >> You mentioned a couple weeks ago that you weren't super concerned about getting
01:00 your first hit or whatever, but was it good to at least just kind of check that box?
01:04 >> Yeah, honestly, yeah, it was good to be able to drive and
01:08 then be able to take some hits and get right up and run and play again after that.
01:13 So it's part of the game and honestly, it helps me sort of settle into the game.
01:17 And so thought it was pretty good to be able to go through that.
01:20 >> You and Trey are tight, he took a lot of criticism nationally during the week.
01:27 Is it nice to see him finish the game like he did, maybe silence that?
01:33 >> Yeah, it was awesome seeing him being able to finish and
01:36 put a game winning drive together, set up Moody for the game winning kick.
01:39 Yeah, we all wanna see him succeed and do great.
01:42 So to be able to go out there and just chip away, honestly, and
01:46 then he put together two great drives at the end.
01:49 So it was awesome to see, really excited for him.
01:52 >> What's left for you to get ready for the regular season?
01:56 >> Yeah, I think honestly just keep honing in on the little details and
02:00 stuff throughout the week.
02:02 Trying to be accurate as best as possible at practice.
02:05 Obviously, chip away at trying to take away from the mistakes at practice and
02:11 feel not perfect, but get close to it.
02:15 And so I wanna be able to practice consistent and
02:19 come game or week one, be ready to rip it.
02:22 So we're getting there.
02:24 >> Will you try things in practice occasionally that you would not try in
02:27 a game just to see where you're at?
02:30 >> Yeah, honestly, I'd say so.
02:31 With this whole process with my arm and stuff coming back,
02:35 there's times where you get into an 11 on 11 situation and
02:40 there's tight windows and stuff and you're looking off guys and
02:43 you wanna see, all right, can I fit this in there or not?
02:45 And so I feel like I've tried that out a little bit all throughout camp.
02:50 And so you watch the film, you learn from it, and it's something that you come out
02:55 the next day and be like, all right, I can do this or I can't.
02:57 So yeah, it's a good time to try stuff out.
03:01 >> As you probably know, your practice interceptions are being charted,
03:04 [LAUGH] carefully monitored.
03:08 Kyle said you don't care about that.
03:10 I mean, he likes the fact that you really don't care about a headline where he has
03:15 another pick in practice.
03:17 I mean, is it like that type of stuff doesn't even register with you?
03:22 >> Yeah, I mean, for myself, obviously, I take pride in, yeah,
03:25 not turning the ball over, yes.
03:27 That's huge as a quarterback to be able to make smart decisions every single snap,
03:31 every single play.
03:32 So it's not like I'm just going out there throwing stuff up and
03:34 saying, all right, I'm trying stuff out.
03:36 It's nothing like that.
03:38 I'm a competitor.
03:39 I wanna be able to rip the ball.
03:41 Obviously, coming off an injury sort of scene where I'm at with some throws and
03:44 stuff, that's a thing.
03:46 But outside of that, it's practice for a reason.
03:51 And obviously, I'm trying to find that edge and that little chip every single day.
03:55 And so, yeah, I just keep working on my craft and go about it that way.
04:00 But yeah, to make a big deal about interceptions and stuff at practice and
04:04 whatnot, I don't know.
04:06 If you get tied up in that and wrapped up in that, I feel like it's sort of for
04:11 nothing in a sense.
04:12 What matters is game days on Sundays and being in the moment,
04:16 making the right decision when you're in real situational football and stuff.
04:20 But you can work on that at practice, so yeah.
04:22 >> [INAUDIBLE] your first week doing three days in a row without that day off.
04:27 Are there any restrictions that you still have to get rid of, or
04:30 are you completely, fully cleared now for throwing?
04:33 >> Yeah, there's days where I practice, obviously.
04:36 And so I go through those days of practice.
04:39 But we still monitor in a sense how many throws and this and that.
04:44 So it's not like we're gonna be like, all right,
04:46 you can go throw out your arm every single day now from here on out.
04:49 It's still like, hey, how's your arm feeling?
04:51 And we're gonna get you reps and go from there kind of thing.
04:53 So that's where we're at.
04:56 I feel really good, honestly.
04:57 And even with one day off and then three days in a row, I feel good about that.
05:01 So, yeah.
05:02 >> [INAUDIBLE] second decision on the scramble,
05:05 rather than maybe throw to Juwan goal line, your decision to run for it?
05:10 >> Yeah, I mean, it was just sort of in the moment, 11 on 11.
05:12 It was off schedule, we're scrambling.
05:15 I feel like I sort of saw a crease backside.
05:17 And it's probably gonna be something I'll see on film where it's like, man,
05:20 give JJ a shot.
05:21 But yeah, honestly, it was a split second decision.
05:25 Tried to run it and set us up for fourth and goal and go for it.
05:27 But preseason, it's kick a field goal.
05:30 >> You got to play with Debo last year, a year where he was pretty self critical of
05:34 his own performance later saying that he wasn't as explosive as he wanted to be,
05:39 although he was still pretty good.
05:41 But do you see, the first drive tonight,
05:44 are you seeing more explosive Debo right now than you ever saw last year?
05:48 >> Yeah, I think Debo has obviously taken last year's film and everything and
05:53 has been real with himself.
05:55 And man, you seem like a different mindset with him all throughout camp.
05:59 Every single rep, even if he's not getting the ball,
06:01 he's running extremely hard and doing his part for the team.
06:05 And so today I feel like he saw a little glimpse of, hey,
06:08 he's gonna do his job.
06:09 When he gets the ball, he's gonna be Debo.
06:11 But even when he doesn't, he's still gonna be where he needs to be and be there for
06:15 the team and sort of set the standard.
06:17 And so Debo's done a great job with that and
06:19 we're really excited about what he's gonna do.
06:20 >> All right, thanks guys.
06:22 >> Thanks guys. >> That's gonna be it in here.
