00:00 When I hear the term master at something,
00:02 to me that means that you have no more to learn
00:04 and there's nowhere else that you can go.
00:06 And even though I've been doing it for 20 years
00:08 and I definitely feel very skilled at what I do,
00:10 I would only hope that I can keep getting better, honey.
00:12 - Oh, that's the political correct question.
00:15 Bitch, you fabulous.
00:16 (laughing)
00:28 - Hey, it's your girl, Kiki Palmer.
00:30 - And I'm Sergio Hudson.
00:31 - And you are watching Essence Uncovered.
00:34 - Her style goes back to her talent for me.
00:36 It, to me, accents who she is as a performer
00:40 and as an innovative performer.
00:42 I think she's so innovative, so fresh, and so new.
00:45 Sometimes when we speak, she brings light to things
00:49 that I never thought, 'cause I have a very traditional mind.
00:52 So when we work together, her style's just classic
00:56 and she wants to convey classic but modern.
00:59 Let's push the needle forward, let's look to the past,
01:01 but let's look forward at the same time.
01:03 So I think that defines her, for sure.
01:06 The friendship that we have has fueled me
01:09 and given me a boost of creative energy
01:12 to be able to go forward.
01:13 And I feel like I've done the same for her.
01:15 - Without a doubt.
01:16 - So, you know, it's been a gift, absolutely.
01:18 - Yes, and creatives need that.
01:20 I'm so glad we found each other, Sergio.
01:22 - I think Sergio is more than my fashion twin.
01:25 I think he actually is like my fashion mentor.
01:29 I think for me with fashion, I've always felt,
01:31 you know, and I think anybody would say this was fashion,
01:33 sometimes there can be an elitism to it.
01:34 You know, you gotta have a specific, you know, look.
01:36 You gotta be a particular size, you gotta be, you know.
01:39 And I don't think that I really ever was the prototype
01:42 of what that was, but when I met Sergio,
01:45 he embraced me and showed me that
01:47 I can be everything that fashion needs.
01:50 - When we first met, I knew we would be a good match
01:53 because she told me, "I'm your doll.
01:55 Dress me up, fix me up, I just wanna look pretty."
01:58 And when she said that, I was like,
01:59 "We're gonna be friends."
02:01 - The thing that I'm most inspired by, obviously, is my son.
02:05 He has given me so much joy, life, interest, empowerment,
02:09 the list goes on.
02:10 So that's probably the thing I'm most excited about.
02:14 And then as it pertains to me personally, myself,
02:16 I mean, the things that I'm building with Sergio
02:18 very much so excite me.
02:19 They've, you know, given me a whole different story to tell
02:21 as it pertains to style and fashion
02:24 and what I wanna offer to young women like myself.
02:26 And then on the other side of things,
02:28 I'm excited to also move into the background
02:30 and really support other talents,
02:32 talented people to get their chance, you know,
02:34 as far as producing and directing and writing
02:37 in KTV network that I just launched a year ago.
02:40 We've been doing so much work digitally
02:41 for scripted and unscripted shows.
02:43 And I wanna continue to go down that path.
02:45 So for me, it's about also pushing other people forward.
02:49 Just when I think about Sergio Hudson
02:51 and what his style and his designs, what they stand for,
02:56 when I look at it, I feel powerful.
02:58 I feel feminine, I feel strong.
03:00 And then when I met him, coming off of having my baby
03:03 and all the emotions and energy I was feeling,
03:05 that's what he also encouraged in me.
03:08 And so I think, I don't know,
03:09 I just feel like the universe brought us together
03:11 because we were, what he speaks to
03:13 is exactly where I am at this point in my life,
03:15 having my baby, getting ready to turn 30.
03:18 I think it's everything, you know,
03:19 that I think when I think of you.
03:21 What I'll tell you is this,
03:24 is that even in that pressure I felt of snapping back,
03:27 I feel less self-conscious than I did beforehand.
03:29 And I think it's very indicative
03:30 of the people that I have around me,
03:32 the support system that I have,
03:33 from my trainer, Corey Kaye, to Sergio.
03:37 No one said you need to be who you was before.
03:39 They all kept saying, "Who you are now is giving down."
03:44 And that really made me feel like,
03:46 yeah, let me get into this new me.
03:48 And I think that's what all moms deserve.
03:50 Keep eating these bitches up, I'm playing.
03:52 (laughing)
03:54 - But we're not.
03:55 - I'm just playing.
03:57 - We're not playing, period.
03:59 (laughing)
04:01 (upbeat music)
04:03 (upbeat music)
04:06 (upbeat music)
04:09 (upbeat music)
04:11 (upbeat music)
