00:00 fight and say break clean, protect yourselves at all times, touch gloves.
00:04 So second fight of the night between in the blue corner, Sahil Khan, the Manchester's Shaun Jackson.
00:15 Looking forward to seeing Sahil Khan with that explosive amateur record. 28 stoppages and 70
00:27 wins. 18 in the first round, Shiv. Impressive. I mean, that's impressive.
00:32 As an amateur as well, considering the gloves are a lot more padded.
00:36 Yeah, so it is. And it also shows that he comes out fast. I would imagine so lots of punches as
00:45 well, because in amateurs you can fuster opponents, get the referee to step in early.
00:53 Well, aggressive on the front foot, explosive. He means business, Sahil Khan.
00:59 Creeping forward, good variation with the jab. Yeah, jabs are working well for him, isn't it?
01:05 Going through the gears, working head, body.
01:09 It's very confident so far. It is very confident stuff.
01:13 Jumping in left hook like Roy Jones, you know.
01:21 Like I say, Khan trains at the One Nation gym in Derby. Clifton Mitchell.
01:26 I was just corrected on the notes, I had 63 wins in the amateurs. But it was ex-pro Nathaniel Howe
01:36 and coach Carl Wiggins, ex-Midlands champion, said no, it's not 63, it's 70.
01:44 But the stoppages are correct. 28 again. I'll repeat that, 28 in the amateurs, 18 in the first
01:52 round. On the front foot, poking out the jab, trying to draw out the lead of Sean Jackson,
01:58 trying to look for the openings. Impressive, confident start so far. Yeah, it is, isn't it?
02:05 It is. Again, you know, he obviously got fast hands, wants to make an impression, but he hasn't
02:10 rushed his work. He's been nice and controlled behind that jab, that really good long jab that
02:13 he's using. He's been picking his shots, you know, he's sat behind, sat on the back leg nice,
02:19 and just stalking his opponent and picking the shots as he goes. Yeah, well, perfectly
02:25 perfect example there with that right hand there, right on the centre of the guard.
02:28 Yeah, he's in with Sean Jackson, yet to pick up a win in the pros, but the first thing you
02:36 notice on his record, he's yet to be stopped. He's fought three times this month already. Push
02:42 back though into that neutral corner. It's a nice work with that right hand from Sahil Khan.
02:47 Well, Khan's maintained that distance, so when he's throwing his punches, they're still nice and long,
02:51 not allowing Jackson to hold on or close the gap. It's only when he jumps in like that,
02:56 that they get close enough for Jackson to turn him or to grab him.
03:00 From this distance here, it's all Khan and he controls everything.
03:04 He's been busy, Jackson. Only turning pro last year in November, and of his 14 defeats,
03:14 five of those have come by debutants. So, Sahil Khan, can he be the next and can he
03:20 be the first to stop Sean Jackson? Good positive start.
03:23 Let's have a look at some of the action in that first round. Impressive stuff, Barry.
03:37 It is, yeah, and what's impressive is it's all nice and long as well. You've got a long reach,
03:41 fast hands, fast feet, and he's using those strengths. He's keeping that distance,
03:45 throwing everything from length there, so doesn't allow Jackson to fire back or to hold on when he
03:50 gets caught. I think that was a nice control first round there from Khan. It's a lovely left
03:55 to the body that sheb, wasn't it, from Khan? I mean, this is debut, right? And I just love
04:00 the way he's varying the punches. It's not just head hunting. He's going to the body, he's going
04:05 to the head, and what I like also is he's cutting off the ring. He's not just following his opponent.
04:11 Yeah, good composed, positive start from the debutant, Sahil Khan.
04:18 As we start this second round, Khan on the front foot once again,
04:24 carrying the lead hand quite low, but always trying to bait and draw out the lead
04:30 from his opponent, Jackson. Jackson not taking that bait at all,
04:34 moving. I would say never been stopped, he knows how to survive.
04:38 He's going to have to call on those survival instincts in this fight as
04:45 Khan is all over him like a rash. But no, Khan's taking control, certainly of the distance,
04:50 and the distance in between the two he has control of. Oh, good work, nice solid shot.
04:55 He just sat down on that right hand, left hook there did Khan. But now we've got to just start
05:01 adjusting that left hook a little bit there. That's better, a little bit lower, he wants to
05:04 go with it because Jackson, when you throw the right hand, he dips low. The left hook's going
05:09 to go over the top of the head, so we just start adjusting the distance, start reading the patterns
05:13 of Jackson. Yeah, controlling the distance, like you said. Just a couple of times there, Barry,
05:17 just smothering his work a little bit, but I don't mind it sometimes when it's that eagerness
05:23 to close the show and entertain the fans. This is a better range. Yeah, I like that. I like that
05:29 he's come out this round. He worked his man out the first round. He's come out and he said,
05:32 "You know what? I'm going to throw phases now." So he's doing one and two phases. I really like
05:37 that. And that's how he'll get to his man, if he's looking for the stoppage. Oh, good work.
05:43 No, yeah, spot on there, Shev. Yes, he has to add up the gears a little bit,
05:45 a little more assertive with his work. It's Jackson's job now just to fire a few back here,
05:51 try and make Can think about before he comes forward.
05:55 Yeah, he's enjoying himself in there on his debut.
06:01 Both of you remember your debuts, Shev? Oh, man, that was a long time ago, wasn't it?
06:10 Okay, I understand that. October '92, my debut. 28th of October,
06:16 '92. 2004. '92. I sold the ticket to Jesus.
06:21 Back on the front foot. Can just creeping forward, looking, slipping inside and trying to look for
06:36 that left hook. He's just taking the power off the shots, a little bit buried, trying to mix things
06:43 up. But he doubled up with the backhand there with the right hand. And when he landed with
06:46 the second of the body, twisted up with a nice little uppercut. Just dipping the knees, trying
06:55 to find openings. Every which way, Can. That's where the feint works. You know when you're like
07:00 Jackson, who just dips low to stay out of trouble. If you do a little feint, and then you force that
07:05 move and then you can start moving around the target, that little semicircle around the body.
07:10 And I look with him up to the left hook. I mean, even after throwing a jab,
07:13 jab, sidestep, and then go again. You know, do the phases like that.
07:17 Another round in the bag for Sahil Khan. Some nice work to the body in that second round
07:32 from Khan. Let's take a look at that now. Yeah, he was more assertive there, wasn't he? Especially
07:36 with that right hand there, throwing it to the body, bringing it back up with the uppercut.
07:40 But he just upped the gears a little bit more in that round. As Shep was saying,
07:45 had a good look at him in the first round, working behind the jab, maintaining that distance,
07:49 staying safe. And in this round, he started just to go through the gears a little bit more,
07:53 closing that distance, starting to land some heavier shots, certainly with the body work
07:57 there. That wasn't the only time he landed with some good shots to the body. And I'm expecting
08:02 a little bit more in the third as well. Yeah, he knows how to survive this round. He moves,
08:07 he ties up his opponents every time Khan gets close. But like you say, Barry, the tempo to
08:14 work rate's been good from Khan. It is a four rounder. He's working hard. He's busy. And again,
08:23 on the front foot behind the jab. Jackson moving an awful lot. Like I say, he's only got another
08:30 couple of rounds to survive. When I say survive, you know. No, you're right. He hasn't got any
08:38 trouble, but that's what he's doing right now. And that's why he probably stick the four rounders as
08:43 long as he can, because you come up to the pace like this, he's under a bit of pressure. He hasn't
08:48 been really hurt yet, but you make this four rounds of six and eight rounds, then it becomes a bit more
08:53 of a difficult task here for Jackson. You know, I'd like to see Khan go back to the variations of
09:02 shots rather than just going for the head. Jab to the body, jab to the head, mix it up a little bit.
09:07 Jackson fighting Southpaw for a little bit. I don't know if that is a wise move,
09:16 because that right hand looks dangerous from Khan. And that is the shot for Southpaw. And you
09:21 see Ken Jackson's grabbing old, lunging forward. When people switch stances, especially when they
09:27 don't actually do it, I always say jump on them, because they can't defend as well when they change
09:32 stance. They're just square on, aren't they, for that split second. Working the jab nicely.
09:38 Khan doing the same thing. Barry just switching, poking out the jab from either stance.
09:44 That's really good awareness there from Khan, because he's not allowing,
09:49 he's using that front foot there just to block off the exit there for Jackson,
09:53 and without getting too close. He's just taking advantage of his speed, hands down,
09:59 glowing and relaxing. And he's just picking his shots and enjoying it.
10:03 That's a nice sustained attack there, four shots, moves out of range really quick feet.
10:08 That's a lovely jab, really, really is. Sharp jab, accurate.
10:12 It's worked well for him, hasn't it, from the offset of the jab.
10:17 And it's allowed him there that space and time just to set up the heavier attacks here.
10:21 I think he's so fast that he's nullified Jackson's jab. You know when he's so fast that you're like,
10:29 if I throw, he's going to hit me before I get my hands back. So Jackson's just defending at the
10:34 moment, just using his feet to stay in the fight. And I also think because Khan's not bringing that
10:39 front foot too close to the target, Jackson doesn't feel comfortable with throwing any of it.
10:42 He feels like he's too far out. Yeah.
10:47 It was springing the step, dancing to his left, Khan, poking out that jab again.
10:56 Nice right to the body, changing up the direction of that shot really, really well.
11:01 Just taking a little left hand from Jackson there as he threw his left to the body, Khan.
11:11 You see he's trying to draw out the lead now, Khan, of Jackson and again.
11:15 I do like that, the trunk movement there, you know, hit me if you can, hit me if you can.
11:21 So you can draw out the lead as you said and then counter.
11:24 Yeah, nice composed start from Khan. Nice rhythm, good footwork we see here,
11:35 springing in out of range after he's thrown a flurry of shots, Barry.
11:40 Yeah, I just think his awareness where he is all the time in the ring is pretty good, so he can
11:45 skip out of distance quite well and he does know because his awareness, his judgment of distance
11:50 is quite impressive that he can land with that left hook from body from so far out,
11:55 he knows where he is and he's engineering Jackson on the ring with that front foot as well. So
12:00 as soon as Jackson holds his feet, he knows exactly where he is, he knows he can dip that
12:04 shoulder to the left hook to the body quite comfortable there, Khan. It's a good mature
12:08 display for the young man, it really is. Yeah, like you say, intelligent stuff with that front
12:12 foot pinning Jackson exactly where he wants him. I think we can expect to see more in this
12:20 fourth and final round. I can imagine Khan's going to go through the gears here,
12:26 he'll be desperate to get the stoppage no doubt,
12:30 with what I've said, what he's done in the amateurs, used to stop at opponents.
12:38 Oh, got caught with two. Yeah.
12:39 That right uppercut, Khan, nice high guard though from Jackson,
12:51 he's avoiding the shots, taking them on the gloves. Again, he just needs a little feint
12:56 there doesn't he, Khan, just fully lets his punches go, fully makes a movement.
13:00 Just to go put Jackson in a little bit of a shell.
13:04 He's not offered much at all, Jackson. Every now and again he might poke the jab out or
13:14 look for a left hand. The southpaw starts but doesn't offer much and
13:21 it may have frustrated Khan a little bit. I think he was hoping that he'd find a few more openings,
13:27 but welcome to the pros, welcome to the likes of Sean Jackson, who just reeled it off there.
13:34 Fighting for the 14th time already this year. Incredible. I don't know if Jackson heard me,
13:42 but he's come out and he's throwing a few more jabs now and he's trying to go out.
13:47 But I think Khan's closed the distance a little bit as well, that's allowed Jackson to fire back,
13:50 but it's a lesson he can learn. The most important thing is you get him out, he gets the debut out of
13:57 the way, he gets comfortable under the lights, he'll be happy with his performance. He's done
14:01 his punches go nice and fluid, he's landed with some decent shots against a guy who's
14:05 very hard to deter, very hard to slow down. And he's barely taken a shot back and that's
14:11 always a very successful night. Yeah, we've basically seen a bit of everything, haven't we?
14:16 We've seen some nice tidy boxing, really quick feet, the jab's been impressive, the shot selection,
14:21 the variation, nice right to the body as I say that, changing the levels, goes back upstairs.
14:26 That's what you want. Yeah, just a little bit more change in tempo now and again, but you know,
14:32 I think you'll learn as you go along, just you know, flurry a little bit, you know, with lighter
14:36 shots and then just a little, just with the feet, then sit down with some of your punches
14:40 after that, just so this, it makes it harder for your opponent to read your shots coming.
14:45 You said that about me in my first fight. Yeah, and it took you a little bit of fight to get it right mate.
14:50 But you got it right the last time you fought, I'll tell you that for nothing.
14:58 Absolutely fantastic you were. Nah, this has been a very mature debut performance for me.
15:04 You know, for me his jab has been really good, he's used it as a tool and the variety of shots,
15:10 for me a very, very good performance. Yeah, very composed, positive debut for Khan as he goes
15:18 through the gears, right in the closing seconds of this final round. Like Barry said, he'll be
15:23 over the moon with his debut, showed us a bit of everything, showed us he can box, he's aggressive,
15:28 spiteful, he's always trying to close the show, but Shawn Jackson in the opposing corner
15:37 showing how tricky he can be, he knows how to survive and yeah, good debut Barry. Yeah,
15:44 no it was, I think you know, what he did from the offset, I know again like I said in the alley fight,
15:51 he's not up against a world beater here, so we can't get too carried away, but it's his debut,
15:55 it's a very important night where you can rush your work and you can make mistakes, you can
15:59 smother your work and he never did that once. He knew where he was in the ring at all times,
16:04 he dictated the space and the space in between the two fighters, which is the most important space,
16:08 he always knew where he was, he got Jackson on the end of every shot he threw,
16:12 very economically sound he was there, didn't miss him any shots. I think it was a good performance,
16:17 he showed a little bit of good footwork at times, a bigger test than a head obviously,
16:22 but he gets out of the way, we were happy to see him, I thought he looked good, sharp,
16:26 I think he got a bit of snap in his punches as well, so he'll be a good prospect to watch. Yeah,
16:30 box ticked, debut out the way, one he can enjoy, look back on and be impressed with and happy with
16:37 and he'll move on, like you say Barry to tough a test, but let's hear from David Diamante
16:43 as he announces the winner of this fight.
16:45 Ladies and gentlemen, after four rounds here in Birmingham, we go to referee Christopher
16:53 Dean's scorecard, it reads 40 to 36 for your winner, Sahil Khan.
17:01 Yep, so Sahil Khan gets his professional journey underway,
17:07 a solid win over Manchester's Shawn Jackson, positive display, big smiles,
17:16 there's a few in the crowd, obviously sells a ticket, they'll be over the moon.
17:22 Just having a picture with our MC for the evening, David Diamante.
