A TQM construction site in Newcastle has been shut down for safety issues, with inspectors to revisit the company's Wollongong site.
Transcript
00:00 David Chandler here, Building Commissioner.
00:03 We are on the first site in Newcastle today which has got five unannounced visits coming.
00:12 These visits are because the builder has repeated safe work issues.
00:19 On this job, this is a TQM job and everywhere we have been on this job so far there are
00:27 safety issues.
00:29 There are also concerns with the compliance of the designs.
00:34 So what we have elected to do is we are going to issue a stop work order, a draft stop work
00:38 order in regard to the designs and we will talk to the builder about how we might deal
00:42 with that.
00:43 But more importantly we are going to shut this job down right now.
00:47 Everybody is leaving and you guys are going to supervise restart up sometime next week.
00:52 Just simply not good enough is it?
00:54 It's not, it's not.
00:55 So a number of notices will be issued today in relation to the breaches and then we will
01:00 have to come back and look at that and comply with those notices once you have rectified
01:04 these issues.
01:05 And this is not the first time you have done this is it?
01:08 It's not.
01:09 So notices have been issued for TQM on multiple occasions.
01:12 So for this site and also other TQM sites as well.
01:17 Okay everybody be warned, get on top of safety because wherever you upset the safety inspectors
01:22 we will be there.
