Japan to begin releasing treated Fukushima water into sea soon

Japan will begin releasing treated radioactive water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean as early as Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida approved the plan, emphasizing its importance for decommissioning the plant and Fukushima's recovery from the 2011 disaster. The government aims to ensure safety, address concerns from fisheries, and provide clear explanations throughout the release and decades-long decommissioning process.
