00:00 there is a new Star Wars series coming to Disney+.
00:04 So I stopped by Samurai Comics to find out all about it.
00:07 (dramatic music)
00:11 Well, Disney has added again by bringing a new character
00:24 and a new show to their streaming platform, Disney+.
00:28 And that is Cody.
00:30 - Ahsoka, streaming August 23rd on Disney+.
00:32 - I love it.
00:33 Okay, who is this character?
00:35 Where did she come from?
00:36 - So Ahsoka Tano first appeared
00:37 in the Clone Wars movie that they did.
00:40 It was the first animated movie that they did
00:42 for the new universe that they wanted to start with.
00:45 And then she transitioned over
00:46 to the Clone Wars animated series.
00:48 She was a reluctant Padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker,
00:52 mainly 'cause he did not want a Padawan at all
00:55 and she was pretty free-spirited.
00:58 From there, she was the breakout character of the series,
01:00 continuing on into Star Wars Rebels
01:01 and then showing up in The Mandalorian season two.
01:04 - Wow, that's cool.
01:05 And we're here at Samurai Comics
01:06 because everything, comic books, but Star Wars also here,
01:09 so you can follow along to find out.
01:11 You said something very interesting
01:12 and that is The Mandalorian.
01:14 Mandalorian.
01:15 - Yep.
01:16 - See, okay, I'm gonna get in trouble.
01:17 - Oh, Mandalins are fun too.
01:17 - Okay, that too, yes.
01:18 (laughs)
01:19 But that became a very big series on Disney+.
01:23 So this is definitely continuing on
01:25 to have that great franchise going on.
01:26 - Yep, it's playing off both of the success
01:28 of The Mandalorian, which kinda came out of nowhere
01:30 for a lot of people, as well as the huge fan base
01:33 that the animated series Rebels and Clone Wars has.
01:36 So they're really tapping into something
01:37 that has a strong existing fan base.
01:39 - What I like too is that they are giving power
01:42 to women in this series.
01:44 - Yes, not just Ahsoka, but you also have Sabine Wren
01:47 who's gonna be a major player in this series.
01:49 And it looks pretty focused on them
01:52 and it's gonna be a lot of fun, it looks like.
01:53 - You're holding a lightsaber.
01:54 - Yep.
01:55 - With my understanding, she has two lightsabers?
01:58 - Yes, she is one of the few Jedi
01:59 that fights with a two-blade style
02:01 and it really makes her stand out.
02:03 She also has white lightsabers,
02:05 which not a lot of characters have in the series.
02:07 - Yeah, what I love is that Disney is bringing people
02:11 back into the comic book world with these kind of series.
02:15 Because again, we only get the basic,
02:17 or I hate to say that, at the beginning of Star Wars.
02:19 But now they're seeing all these different characters
02:21 that are coming in.
02:22 And it all starts with, again, coming back
02:24 to bringing them into comic books.
02:25 - Yeah, there is a huge variety of comic books
02:27 that you get a lot of extra story
02:29 that doesn't even begin to get touched on
02:31 in the live action or the animated stuff.
02:34 There's whole periods of time
02:36 that are almost strictly comic books,
02:38 which means if you have hankering
02:40 for some extra Star Wars stuff
02:41 and you've watched all the movies or all the TV shows,
02:43 you can dive into this and have tons and tons
02:45 and tons of stories to read through.
02:47 - Now, Cody, tell me, how excited are you
02:50 that you have these younger kids
02:52 who are watching Disney+ and seeing these Star Wars?
02:56 You're like, wow, that's cool, that's Star Wars.
02:57 They come in to get the book and like,
02:59 yeah, I'm here about this person.
03:00 And then all of a sudden you turn them on
03:01 to what we grew up with.
03:03 How awesome is that?
03:05 - As a dad, that is a lot of fun.
03:06 I have that at home, I have it at work.
03:08 And it's really interesting to see all these people,
03:11 which characters they like,
03:12 and then introducing them to older characters
03:14 that you didn't get as much access to these days.
03:17 And seeing their faces light up
03:18 when they see a new character
03:19 that they're checking out for the first time is awesome.
03:21 - Yeah, which actually was a character
03:22 that we already knew, like Darth Vader,
03:25 Luke Skywalker. - Boba Fett.
03:27 - Boba Fett. - Yep.
03:28 - Let's see, who did, what's his name?
03:32 Oh man, I can't think of his name.
03:35 Oh my goodness. - Describe him.
03:38 - Black guy, hair. - Lando?
03:40 - Lando, thank you. - Lando Calrissian.
03:41 - Thank you, there it is right there.
03:42 - Billy Dee Williams. - Billy Dee Williams, yes!
03:44 Yes, see, that's what I love about this.
