00:00 [speaking Spanish]
00:03 Kind of a rough translation.
00:15 Just keep a clean fight.
00:16 No-- no shots to the back, to the neck.
00:20 Keep it above the belt.
00:22 Lodova's another guy coming from out of town,
00:24 out of the country against the hometown
00:26 undefeated prospect in Rodriguez.
00:29 I gotta say, Rodriguez has a good taste in music.
00:31 I came out to that song in 2009.
00:33 It's "My Time" by Fabolous.
00:35 Of course, but in 2009, it had just come out.
00:36 Now--
00:38 Now it's--
00:38 --it's a little bit of a classic.
00:40 Yeah, it's a classic.
00:41 I was going to say, it's a classic for sure.
00:43 Victor Rodriguez of Maldonado, Uruguay,
00:45 in those blue and silver trunks.
00:47 And Eduardo Cordovés of Venezuela in, I guess,
00:50 the Venezuelan flag trunks with the stars
00:53 and the red and the blue for Eduardo Cordovés.
00:57 He is one of the three Venezuelan fighters
00:59 that we have for you in this card.
01:01 And Guzman coming up in the next fight against Cuello
01:03 and then Rondón against Vidal in the main event.
01:07 Round one of a scheduled eight at the welterweight division
01:12 here in Montevideo, Uruguay, live fighting here
01:15 on Pro Box TV, your boxing channel.
01:21 And first ever fight, obviously, between these two.
01:23 So you figure the first couple seconds or first minute
01:25 or so of the first round is going to be a little bit
01:29 of a filling out process.
01:30 And it looks like Rodriguez is a bigger fighter compared
01:36 to Cordovés.
01:37 Yeah, and he's--
01:39 you can see he's looking to throw the harder punches with
01:42 a bit more mustard behind him.
01:43 Not a big knockout record, 11 and 05 KO's,
01:45 but you see he's a more planted fighter on his feet.
01:49 Stands up a little high.
01:50 He's looking to set up that big left hand as, again,
01:53 he just attempted to dip over to his left to try to shoot it.
01:55 But Cordovés has changed range.
01:58 Cordovés is a little bit more mobile.
02:00 So he changes range a little bit.
02:01 So Rodriguez is smart to use that jab here.
02:04 Speaking of the jab, that's for bigger fighters that
02:07 have maybe more reach.
02:08 That's the advantage, right?
02:09 Also, it'll establish your range and allow you
02:11 to close the range as well.
02:12 I mean, the jab basically can do whatever you need it to do.
02:16 As in this case here, Rodriguez, again,
02:18 using it to try to close the gap.
02:21 I get the sense from Rodriguez with his--
02:25 with the way he's looking at Cordovés,
02:27 he's still kind of calculating a little bit there.
02:30 At least that's the impression I get from what his face--
02:33 Yeah, yeah.
02:34 I mean, Cordovés has a little bit of an awkward, bouncy
02:36 little rhythm to him.
02:38 So you got to try to keep it simple
02:40 and try to start to trap him.
02:41 I like the way Rodriguez is going to the body here,
02:43 trying to use that right hand to the body more and more.
02:45 There it is again.
02:46 Ooh.
02:47 Using the jab to close the gap.
02:48 And then when he gets close, trying to attack the body.
02:50 There's a lot of times these awkward guys
02:51 have random movements.
02:52 It's difficult to maybe track them down to the head at first.
02:55 You want to slow them down to the body.
02:56 Rodriguez has that mentality.
02:59 He's using that jab to close the gap
03:00 and then trying to get to that body
03:03 with the rest of the shots.
03:04 So good attempt to counter right hand over the top
03:06 of an attempted jab by Cordovés.
03:10 What's it like fighting fighters who are maybe
03:12 a little bit bigger than you, even though it's
03:14 the same weight class, but maybe bigger, taller?
03:16 You got to be a little bit more crafty to try to close that gap
03:18 and get inside their jab.
03:19 You can always jab with a jabber, though.
03:20 You can always use your jab.
03:22 You got to use it in a different way
03:22 when you're the shorter guy.
03:24 Ooh, big looping right hand there by Cordovés, missing.
03:27 A little wild there, but still a dangerous shot.
03:30 End of the first round between these two here in Montevideo.
03:34 [crowd cheering]
03:36 And Wednesday, July 26, live on ProBox TV.
03:43 It is going to be a great event from the Kissimmee Civic
03:45 Center, Greater Orlando area.
03:47 The card begins 7 p.m. Eastern, 5 in Ciudad Mexico,
03:52 and 4 Pacific with the main event, the Puerto Rican
03:55 Orlando Capoconzales against Ramiro "Demone" Cessena
03:59 of Mexico for 10 rounds in the super featherweight division.
04:03 That should be a great fight from Kissimmee Civic Center.
04:06 Great card.
04:08 Of course, ProBox TV, your boxing channel.
04:10 We have good fighters and great fights.
04:13 And here's some of the best action from round one.
04:16 Both fighters landing a couple of body shots
04:18 early on in that round.
04:20 Yeah, you see Rodriguez did better
04:21 to dictate that pace, take control of center ring.
04:25 Cordovés, a little bit awkward, got in a couple of shots.
04:28 But honestly, Rodriguez controlled that round.
04:31 Let's see if he picks up that momentum now.
04:33 As again, you start to get a timing of Cordovés
04:34 more and more.
04:36 See if you pick up the numbers on those combinations,
04:38 and you start to close the gap a little bit more.
04:39 Let's see how this comes around in round two.
04:42 Yeah, Rodriguez's last fight was April 1 in this building.
04:45 It was a fifth round TKO over Néstor Maidana.
04:48 Maidana's corner throwing in the towel.
04:50 So Rodriguez definitely administered some punishment
04:53 in that fight against Maidana.
04:55 Meanwhile, for Cordovés, his last fight
04:59 goes back to December.
05:01 And a first round TKO over Walfredo Rodriguez.
05:04 But that was in Caracas.
05:06 It's a different animal here against Victor Rodriguez
05:10 in Uruguay.
05:12 Yeah, he's taking on the undefeated prospect
05:14 in his hometown, in his home country.
05:16 Victor Rodriguez in the blue and gray.
05:20 And Eduardo Cordovés in the Venezuelan flag trunks
05:24 of red, blue, and yellow with the white stars.
05:27 And see, now, there's a little pause in the action there
05:31 as both fighters just still trying
05:33 to get a bit of a feeling out for each other there.
05:35 Yeah, if there's one thing you'd like to see from Rodriguez,
05:37 maybe create a little bit of a rhythm.
05:38 He's kind of very, very stationary.
05:40 No head movement, no really change of height
05:42 or not many feints.
05:44 Kind of just stands there, and then he's looking to,
05:46 you know, shoot that jab or shoot the hard punches.
05:49 But sometimes you've got to create something as well,
05:51 especially when you've got an awkward guy like Cordovés.
05:53 You've got to create the openings yourself, you know?
05:55 So you can't just kind of sit there, like,
05:57 see how he does that, and then he just waits
05:58 for Cordovés to be in range and use that jab.
06:00 Sometimes you've got to be proactive
06:02 and try to start creating those.
06:03 Because you can tell by looking at the two of them
06:06 from their body language that Rodriguez
06:08 is the more superior fighter.
06:09 There's a nice timing uppercut there
06:11 on the part of Rodriguez.
06:12 So you've got to start to implement that
06:13 a little bit at a time and start to show,
06:15 not just everybody else who's watching,
06:17 but most importantly, to show your opponent, Cordovés,
06:19 that, "Hey, you're not-- you're inferior to me tonight."
06:23 - So we're halfway through this second round
06:24 of a scheduled eight rounds, well to wait.
06:27 Vision between Victor Rodriguez and Eduardo Cordovés,
06:30 and we saw in the first round,
06:32 both guys have a little bit of success going to the body
06:37 with kind of the way you were talking about
06:38 with the head movement.
06:39 Should they focus a little bit more on the body here
06:41 to try to open things up, or...
06:43 - Yeah, but you-- - Is this still working right now?
06:44 - Yeah, but you got to close the gap to go to the body.
06:46 - Ah, right. - That's the only thing,
06:47 you know, so you got to work on closing that gap
06:48 so you can get to the body there.
06:49 You know, you do see Rodriguez doing it
06:51 when he does close that gap.
06:52 So you'd like to see a little bit more of it.
06:54 And even Cordovés, you know, when he gets close,
06:56 you know, he's not trying to reach too much to the head
06:58 'cause as, uh, Rodriguez is a bit of a tall,
07:02 tall task in front of him.
07:03 So he does try to get to the body of Rodriguez as well.
07:05 But both guys working. - Yeah.
07:08 - Rodriguez doing a little more consistent work,
07:10 but nobody's really been consistent enough yet
07:12 to take full control of the fight.
07:13 But you can tell Rodriguez is a superior fighter here.
07:17 There's the first big numbers in combination here
07:19 by Rodriguez. - That's a one.
07:21 - See if he continues to get on that path here
07:22 as we come to the end of the second round.
07:24 - Yeah, got a good round of applause from the crowd here
07:26 with that-- that combination.
07:28 And Cordovés... - Break.
07:29 - Stop.
07:30 - And that ends the second round there.
07:32 Rodriguez a little more active in that round.
07:34 I would say that Rodriguez won that round 10-9.
07:37 I would give him the round, me personally.
07:38 - Yeah. - Yeah.
07:40 - I'd like to remind you to visit ProBoxTV.
07:42 Download the app and catch all the upcoming events
07:46 for what you have for you.
07:47 Here we have the Wednesday night fights,
07:49 July 26th, two fights on August 9th and August 23rd,
07:53 and then September 6th, Wednesday as well.
07:56 What you got planned, Paulie, for those--
07:58 for those-- for those fights there?
08:00 - I'll tell you what, not only am I gonna watch them,
08:02 I'm gonna call them.
08:03 - Oh, you're gonna be live in the flesh.
08:05 All right, cool. - Absolutely.
08:07 - Get to see the two-division world champion live.
08:09 - Enjoy me, Chris Algieri, former world champion.
08:12 - Yeah. - Mike Goldberg will be--
08:13 we call on the action. - Yep.
08:14 - From the Kissimmee Civic Center in Florida.
08:17 - By the way, shout-out to Mike Goldberg.
08:19 He was supposed to do this. I'm filling in for him
08:21 because of a family situation, so much thoughts and love
08:25 and--and positive vibes to Mike Goldberg
08:28 and him and his family. We love you, man.
08:30 So hopefully everything is-- is okay.
08:33 The legend himself, Mike Goldberg,
08:34 I remember listening to Mike Goldberg watch
08:37 Karl fights. It's a beautiful thing, so.
08:39 - Oh, yeah. Fights, hockey. - Yep.
08:41 Everything, yep. Big up and much love
08:43 to Mike Goldberg, for sure.
08:46 Third round here in Montevideo
08:49 between Victor Rodriguez and Eduardo Córdovas.
08:52 And by me and the Magic Man's account,
08:55 we have Rodriguez winning the first two rounds.
08:58 Let's see how Córdovas responds.
09:00 Good little flurry there, trying to attack the body
09:02 further from the Venezuelan.
09:06 Coming into this fight, the last six fights
09:09 for Córdovas have ended either in a knockout,
09:11 a technical knockout, or a corner stoppage.
09:13 So the numbers suggest--
09:17 the recent history of Córdovas suggests
09:19 that we might get that same result.
09:21 Now, will he be on the-- the end of--
09:23 the wrong end of it from his perspective
09:25 or on the right end of it?
09:26 Only time will tell here.
09:28 - Well, you're starting to see the--
09:29 sort of the reasons why Rodriguez' knockout ratio
09:32 is a little bit lower. You don't necessarily think
09:34 it's because he doesn't punch hard.
09:35 You know, the way he sets his feet,
09:37 you might have some heavy hands
09:39 or at least above-average power,
09:40 but the thing about it is he's so inactive,
09:43 and his lack of creativity in creating the openings
09:47 sort of keeps opponents there, you know?
09:49 You see, when he gets those numbers up,
09:51 he touched them there.
09:53 Córdova has touched the ground there,
09:54 glove touch, maybe hurt him to the body.
09:56 - Thereby, Rodriguez--
09:57 - He probably gets a stoppage if he opens up,
09:59 so let's see if he's gonna continue on this momentum.
10:01 We saw a little bit at the end of the second round
10:03 where he opened up with larger numbers
10:05 on the combination.
10:06 Let's see if he starts to recognize the fact
10:08 that he's starting to show a big superiority to Córdova's
10:12 and maybe it'll overwhelm him here.
10:15 - See, now, Rodriguez got him on the corner
10:17 and getting those liver shots to the side
10:19 and another standing eight count
10:21 by the referee, Matias Morales.
10:23 That's the second one in this round.
10:25 Córdova can survive here.
10:28 - I think it's just a matter of will Rodriguez
10:30 allow him to or not.
10:31 I don't really think it's up to Córdova.
10:33 If Rodriguez decides that Córdova's gonna go,
10:36 he's probably gonna go.
10:37 Let's see how--if Rodriguez is capable of understanding this.
10:40 - And it's been the body shots that's brought down
10:41 Córdova here in this third round.
10:44 - Yeah, and he's--more body shots there.
10:46 Ooh.
10:47 You know, you just overwhelm him.
10:48 You know, you can see Rodriguez is physically stronger.
10:50 He's taking charge of the fight.
10:52 He's dominating now.
10:53 He's physically trying to impose himself,
10:55 so it's the body shots, but it's also--
10:56 you know what, at a certain point,
10:58 you gotta start to bully your opponent like this
11:00 and show him that you don't belong.
11:01 See if Rodriguez is able to get this finished
11:02 in the last 30 seconds
11:03 or if Córdova is gonna be able to get back
11:05 to the corner and recharge.
11:06 A little headbutt there by Córdova on the inside.
11:09 - Yeah, Rodriguez now looking for that.
11:11 Can he even touch?
11:12 And those body shots have to be painful.
11:16 That's been the key.
11:18 Now he's got Córdova on the ropes, Rodriguez.
11:23 Almost.
11:24 And that ends the round, and Córdova has a--
11:27 a bit of a--tries to intimidate him
11:29 with a stare after the bell.
11:30 I don't think that's gonna work.
11:32 - Well, I think he's just trying to let him know,
11:33 "Hey, man, I'm still here. I'm not going anywhere."
11:35 You know, he fought back valiantly at the end.
11:38 - Two stares going up again.
11:40 Rodriguez in the WBA super featherweight title eliminator.
11:43 Wednesday, August 9th, Roblox Event Center
11:46 and--channel.
11:47 A great main event is
11:51 Victor Rodriguez dominating that third round.
11:54 Mostly-- - In that round.
11:55 Let's see how Rodriguez continues
11:57 to pick up the momentum.
11:58 Like I said, end of the second round,
11:59 you saw him getting up in numbers,
12:00 those combinations up,
12:02 raising the number in the combination.
12:03 In the third round, he started to get a bit more physical
12:05 and score two knockdowns.
12:06 Let's see here in the-- necessity
12:08 on an opponent that's ready to go
12:10 if he chooses to see it.
12:12 - So how do--if you're in the corner of Córdova's,
12:14 how do you--to get him back in this fight?
12:16 Is it--what can he do?
12:17 - I don't--your jab. I mean, he's kind of
12:18 dribbling around and, you know,
12:19 just kind of tap, tip-tap, tap dancing around,
12:22 throwing a punch every once in a while.
12:24 You know, movement.
12:25 I mean, you can see Córdova's--
12:26 matter of will Rodriguez understand that
12:29 and start to increase the pressure,
12:31 increase that physicality in the fight.
12:33 The way he has been in the last couple of--
12:34 - Yeah, I say cut off the ring, first and foremost.
12:35 You know, he's not cutting off the ring.
12:36 He's allowing Córdova to sort of circle the ring,
12:38 and it's giving him an escape path
12:40 to survive a little bit.
12:41 You know, first off, you know,
12:42 you gotta cut off the ring.
12:43 That may--who knows? Maybe he doesn't know how to.
12:44 You know, at this point,
12:46 if you're not using--you're not cutting off the ring.
12:47 Nice right hand, though.
12:48 That right hand, what it did was it forces--
12:50 it forces Córdova to go the opposite way
12:52 of the direction he wanted to go,
12:53 and that ends up trapping him,
12:55 because a lot of times, guys have a move--
12:56 a preferred direction they like to go.
12:58 - The body work again there by Rodríguez.
13:01 Another standing eight-count here, too.
13:03 In the last round now, here in round four,
13:04 he's got another standing eight-count
13:06 from the referee, Matías Morales.
13:08 - [speaking Spanish]
13:09 - Oh, and he ends the fight here in the fourth round.
13:14 - I mean, I don't know. - I mean, listen.
13:16 - What do you think? - I mean, listen.
13:17 You know, Córdova wasn't on his way to winning,
13:20 but I don't know what the point of counting him was,
13:21 if you were gonna stop at any weight.
13:22 - Right. - It's not like
13:24 Córdova's reacting, stumbling,
13:25 or did anything during that count,
13:28 that made you say, "Okay, I'm gonna stop it."
13:30 Why not just stop him when he goes down right there
13:32 and start counting him?
13:33 'Cause it's not like you had any--
13:36 anything he did would have made you decide
13:37 to stop it after the count that you weren't--
13:39 you couldn't have decided before the count.
13:41 Still, nonetheless, you know, this was par for the course.
13:44 You could kind of see it coming as Rodríguez was sort of,
13:47 you know, upping the ante and upping the pressure.
13:49 And any time he-- and really, it was the kind of fight
13:51 where any time he wanted to up the ante
13:54 and take advantage of it, he could've.
13:56 So I personally think he should've seen this all.
13:58 - Yeah. - He should've seen this all
13:59 a lot earlier. - Yeah.
14:01 - And probably could've got Córdova out a little bit earlier.
14:03 But nonetheless, you know, he eventually did see
14:06 that he was way superior, and it was just a matter of,
14:08 you know, increasing the pressure
14:10 and increasing the stress that Córdova was under,
14:12 and he would get him out of there.
14:15 - Now, I'm gonna play devil's advocate here
14:17 for Córdova.
14:18 To borrow a quote from 300, do you let--
14:20 does he go out on his shield there
14:22 and just kind of let him--
14:23 for lack of a better term, let him get knocked out,
14:25 or is it a good decision to kind of save
14:28 the fighter's health there? - Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
14:30 He wasn't really fighting in a hungry manner anyway.
14:32 So, like, whether-- if you let him continue,
14:34 it doesn't really matter.
14:35 He's just gonna keep getting beat up.
14:36 He wasn't fighting at a certain--
14:37 he had stopped trying to win from very early on, you know?
14:41 Unfortunately, what happens is I notice with these fighters
14:43 that come from these poorer countries,
14:45 and Venezuela's economy's absolutely destroyed.
14:46 - Yeah. - And I notice it in Europe
14:49 as well, they bring in fighters
14:50 from the Eastern European countries
14:52 as opponents with less smaller economies,
14:55 Hungary, Georgia, Lithuania.
14:57 These guys become opponents because they're--
14:59 it's easy-- they cost you less,
15:00 and they're willing to take that money to be opponents
15:03 and so they can, you know, just sort of feed themselves.
15:05 And I think you're seeing this with Venezuela.
15:08 It's a country with, you know, a bad economy.
15:11 So you can see a guy like Cordova
15:13 just kind of showed up for, you know,
15:15 last a few rounds, if he could get the success--
15:17 if he could be successful, he was gonna be,
15:18 but he wasn't gonna go try to break any walls down--
15:22 - Right. - Try to get the win tonight.
15:23 And you can see the body language of him
15:25 from very early on was that of an opponent.
15:28 - So Eduardo Cordova goes to 15 and 4
15:33 with one draw and 13 knockouts,
15:34 and Victor Rodriguez remains undefeated,
15:36 now 12 and 0 with 6 knockouts,
15:40 and this one by way of TKO with body shots
15:44 called by the referee-- stopped by the referee,
15:46 Matias Morales, in the fourth round.
15:49 And now, how about this?
15:51 Victor Rodriguez has now won four of his last fights
15:54 by TKO, so he's-- he's 50% knockout record,
15:58 but he's getting a little bit better,
16:00 starting to understand his range and his power there.
16:02 Well done by the native of Maldonado.
16:07 And with Samson Lekovitz promoting his fights,
