00:18 Very intense tapping of the gloves here
00:21 between Elizabeth Cabrera and Laura Vittaria.
00:25 Carabajal.
00:27 And Elizabeth Cabrera known as "La Pesadilla,"
00:30 which means "The Nightmare."
00:32 And that is what she is hoping to inflict on Carabajal,
00:34 make it a nightmare for her in the ring.
00:36 We are underway here.
00:38 The first fight of the night,
00:39 Center Radisson, Victoria Plaza, Montevideo.
00:42 The Argentine, the Uruguayan Cabrera,
00:44 the Nightmare in the black top with the gold trunks,
00:47 if you will.
00:48 Meanwhile, Carabajal from Jujuy in Argentina
00:52 in the silver top with the black trunks.
00:55 [speaking Spanish]
00:58 This fight is scheduled for six two-minute rounds.
01:01 And early on, we're seeing some pretty intense exchanges
01:04 between Cabrera and Carabajal.
01:07 Yeah, you see Cabrera,
01:08 she's looking to be first right off the jump.
01:10 You know, she took control of center ring.
01:12 It looks like Carabajal is a little bit
01:14 in almost a counterpunching stance.
01:16 She's not looking to really get off first.
01:17 She's uptight.
01:18 She's got a high guard.
01:19 Maybe she's looking to take advantage
01:21 of Cabrera's aggressiveness.
01:23 Sometimes it can be overaggression
01:25 about 20 seconds ago, there was a clash of heads.
01:27 So Cabrera has to be careful there.
01:29 But right now so far, a good start for Cabrera.
01:31 She's gotten off more,
01:32 and it's going to be up to Carabajal
01:34 to dissuade this enthusiasm of Cabrera right now.
01:37 This is a good jab by Carabajal
01:39 that might get the trick done.
01:41 Of course, Cabrera, the Uruguayan from Maldonado,
01:44 looking to impress in front of her fellow countrymen.
01:48 The first of the Rio de la Plata rivalry
01:51 between Argentina and Uruguay, the neighbors.
01:54 - Yeah, when you talk about impress
01:56 in front of the countrymen, that's a good point.
01:58 It's not just in front of the countrymen here.
01:59 When you get a chance for this international audience
02:01 to see you as well on Pro Box TV,
02:03 and you get a chance to be seen by the extra set of eyeballs,
02:07 you want to take advantage
02:09 and look a little bit better than maybe the norm.
02:11 You want to make people talk about you.
02:13 You want to stick out in people's minds.
02:15 So that's where it's important to make sure you perform
02:19 on a platform such as this.
02:22 - Especially Cabrera looking to bounce back
02:27 after suffering her first loss of her career back in April.
02:32 - Yeah, a lot of enthusiasm for both of them.
02:34 So far, standing right in front of each other.
02:36 [cheers and applause]
02:37 Hit the bell there.
02:39 - I don't think they hit the bell.
02:40 I think they hit it.
02:41 Maybe our time's a little bit off there.
02:43 - Yeah.
02:44 So pretty even first round.
02:46 Who do you give the advantage to after that first round?
02:48 - I'd say Cabrera.
02:49 Cabrera was a little bit more aggressive.
02:51 She pushed the pace a little bit.
02:52 Now that Carabajal didn't do a little bit of decent work,
02:54 but it seemed like Cabrera was trying to make the fight.
02:57 At a point in time, we see here July 26th,
03:01 we have our next Pro Box TV event
03:03 from the Kissimmee Center in Florida.
03:05 Orlando Gonzalez against Ramiro Cesena.
03:08 Wednesday night fights on July 26th.
03:10 You know, man, I love doing those Wednesday night fights.
03:12 - Oh, they're fantastic.
03:13 - Always the motto for Pro Box TV,
03:15 evenly matched action fights.
03:16 We're your boxing channel for a reason.
03:18 We keep on adding the live boxing content.
03:20 We've already got a terrific amount of other boxing content,
03:23 such as podcasts, talk shows, news.
03:25 - Oh, so much.
03:26 - So it gives the people at home a real good reason
03:29 to go there and sign up.
03:30 It's $1.99 a month without the advertisements.
03:34 And with the advertisements, you know,
03:36 you get commercials, and it's free.
03:38 - Free, yep.
03:39 - For a couple little commercials,
03:40 you get all the free action, all the free news, talk shows,
03:42 and the fights, live fights.
03:44 - More content than a soda in the vending machine.
03:47 - Well, a little cheaper than the coffee.
03:49 - A little cheaper than the coffee, for sure.
03:51 - At this point, even maybe cheaper
03:52 than the soda in the vending machine.
03:53 - Yeah.
03:54 - The way prices are going up these days.
03:55 - The inflation is ridiculous.
03:56 Round two between these two,
03:58 and both fighters standing in
04:01 with some good exchanges here.
04:02 - Yeah, but you can see Cabrera still trying
04:04 to stay on that front foot,
04:05 trying to push back Carabajal.
04:06 Carabajal is fighting back,
04:07 but she's not taking control of centering.
04:10 Here she is,
04:11 trying to back up Cabrera a little bit.
04:12 I think she's got to do better
04:13 job of being first here,
04:14 and that's going to be very important for her.
04:16 - Cabrera coming off of a loss on April 1st
04:20 in this building against Florencia Nicole Salazar.
04:23 She was stopped in the third round by technical knockout.
04:26 Meanwhile, Carabajal 4-1,
04:28 a winner in her last fight back in June 16th.
04:32 A unanimous decision in a six-round fight,
04:35 and Carabajal on a three-fight winning streak
04:38 coming into this fight,
04:39 but now we're starting to see some good exchanges here,
04:42 a couple of overhands, right, from both fighters.
04:46 And now, you see Cabrera trying to size him up a little bit,
04:56 get a little peek in there with the--
04:59 - Yeah, Cabrera's slowed down a little bit now.
05:01 She's starting to back off
05:02 and maybe look to take a little bit more
05:04 of a tactical approach.
05:05 Obviously, can't keep that fast pace all the time,
05:08 but in two-minute rounds,
05:09 a lot of times the women are able to,
05:10 you know, keep a very fast pace
05:11 with a nice overhand right there by Cabrera.
05:14 - And in two minutes, because of the time, two minutes,
05:17 they really need to be more urgent.
05:19 - Yeah, you're able to get in more work there, you know?
05:22 - Right.
05:23 So we're closing in on the end of the second round.
05:26 There's less than ten seconds remaining.
05:30 You can see that Carabajal just trying to--
05:33 trying to, I guess, use the range with that jab
05:35 from the left hand there to try to slow it up.
05:38 - Yeah, she's gonna have to create
05:39 a little bit more than just that jab,
05:40 there, and she's doing a little bit in combination there
05:43 at the bell, but again,
05:44 it seems to be Cabrera who's pushing the action more.
05:47 And in a fight where the skill
05:48 doesn't really separate one from the other,
05:50 you're probably gonna start to look at more
05:52 who's giving more effort,
05:54 who's taking more of an initiative
05:56 to just control the ring,
05:57 because the skill level is really not much
05:59 of a difference between both these gals.
06:01 So it's looking like Cabrera
06:02 has actually been making the more effort
06:04 to control the ring,
06:05 to be more physical, to throw more punches,
06:07 be first.
06:08 That's why I've given her the first couple rounds
06:09 so far.
06:10 - And when you look at the professional fighting--
06:13 - I've given her the first couple rounds so far.
06:15 - And when you look at the professional fighting,
06:18 Carvajal has more professional fights,
06:20 just five coming into this fight.
06:22 But Cabrera has a little more amateur record
06:26 with a 7-0 record in amateurs with one knockout.
06:29 [bell dings]
06:31 - [speaking Spanish]
06:33 - [speaking Spanish]
06:39 [bell dings]
06:40 - Box.
06:41 - [chanting]
06:44 [crowd cheering]
07:06 - [speaking Spanish]
07:08 - Third round off to a pretty active start there.
07:15 Both fighters throwing some hooks
07:18 and landing some good shots.
07:20 - Good body shots there by Cabrera as well,
07:23 but you know what?
07:24 You can tell that there must have been
07:25 a bit more urgency in the corner of Carvajal,
07:27 because she came out doing the thing
07:29 at the beginning of this round,
07:30 and she landed some pretty good shots
07:32 to start the round out.
07:33 A little good hook there,
07:34 although Cabrera returns fire.
07:37 - Looked like Cabrera was maybe a little bit off balance
07:39 with that right hand in the second--
07:41 like, the second attempt.
07:43 And now Carvajal has the nightmare on the ropes,
07:48 La Pesadilla,
07:49 that's with Cabrera's nickname.
07:52 See, both fighters basically almost the same height.
07:58 Carvajal an inch taller.
08:03 - [speaking Spanish]
08:05 - Change there.
08:13 You see that?
08:17 And, ooh, good overhand right there.
08:19 Still a little bit wild with the punches,
08:23 at least from my perspective.
08:24 - Yeah, yeah, both of these girls are a little bit wild,
08:26 but, you know, they give you the effort.
08:28 - Yeah. - And this is the kind of,
08:29 you know, deep undercard fight.
08:30 You're looking for the effort,
08:31 you're looking for the entertainment value
08:32 of both of these girls.
08:33 That's what they're gonna do.
08:34 They're gonna give you the entertainment value.
08:35 They're coming out, throwing a bunch of punches,
08:36 trying to get closer in the ring,
08:38 and not really looking to use the ring,
08:41 not really a lot of movement here in this fight.
08:43 They've been at a good distance from one another
08:45 and banging away at each other.
08:47 - Definitely starting great effort
08:48 from both of these fighters here,
08:50 as Elizabeth Cabrera and Laura Carvajal
08:53 warming up the crowd here at the Brandison Victoria Plaza
08:56 in Montevideo.
08:59 Getting the crowd warmed up for the main event
09:02 of the North American featherweight title,
09:04 ten-rounder and Amilcar Vidal Jr.
09:07 trying to get back on winning track
09:10 going up against Domicio Rondon
09:13 as we are closing in on the start of the fourth round
09:16 of this matchup between Cabrera and Carvajal.
09:26 [speaking Spanish]
09:29 - Start of--or almost the start of round four.
09:43 There we go, finally, from the referee,
09:45 Alejandro Velasquez.
09:47 - [speaking Spanish]
09:48 - As Elizabeth "La Pesadilla" Cabrera,
09:50 the Uruguayan in the black top with the gold trunks,
09:54 going up against the Urugu--the Argentine from Jujuy,
09:57 Laura Carvajal,
09:59 in the silver top with the black trunks, and--
10:02 Ooh! - Ooh, big shot.
10:03 - Oh! - That got the crowd going.
10:05 - That left hand, left hook.
10:06 - Yeah, that overhand right combination
10:08 followed by a good left hook.
10:10 Cabrera again taking the initiative.
10:12 She's gonna land it again.
10:15 I think if she comes up with a little straight one,
10:17 she may be able to change the trajectory a little bit,
10:19 maybe mix it up with some straight right hands as well.
10:21 She'll be having more success landing that shot,
10:23 but she's looking to land that big right hand again,
10:25 as she did a few seconds ago.
10:27 She's throwing a little bit wide there.
10:28 That's the reason fundamentals matter.
10:30 - Right. - You know what I mean?
10:31 You shorten that shot up right there,
10:33 and you're gonna land it more cleanly.
10:35 She's throwing a little bit wide,
10:36 and again, it's a little bit too wide,
10:38 and it goes behind the head of Carvajal,
10:40 and it doesn't land the right way.
10:42 Actually, she catches the warning
10:43 after throwing it behind the head,
10:44 but in reality, it's just bad fundamentals.
10:46 She should have a shorter right hand
10:48 than she should be throwing,
10:49 'cause the shot is gonna land if she throws it correctly.
10:51 You can see Carvajal is not even trying to slip it.
10:53 She doesn't see it coming,
10:54 so it's a matter of just throwing it correctly,
10:56 shortening it up, working on that fundamental,
10:58 and when she does land it,
10:59 you saw about 30, 40 seconds ago what happened.
11:01 She threw an overhand right.
11:02 She's able to follow with a good hook.
11:04 - Yeah, she senses--oh, she almost--
11:08 - Yeah, she's throwing it. - It's turned over there.
11:10 - She's got the point when she's throwing it like a baseball.
11:12 But those are things that you gotta work on in the gym,
11:14 and you'll prove it there.
11:16 Again, I wouldn't say there's a big fundamental difference
11:19 between these two from a technical level.
11:20 They're both just as technical or lack of technique
11:24 as the other one,
11:25 but there's more effort being given from Cabrera,
11:27 and now Carvajal's trying to answer back.
11:29 And this is why he's entertaining.
11:30 Carvajal coming up short a little bit in these rounds,
11:32 but she's giving the effort she wants as well,
11:35 and sometimes if Cabrera does slow down a little bit,
11:37 you can see Carvajal picks up the pace
11:39 as she is in the end of this round.
11:41 - Yeah, Carvajal took some shots early in the round,
11:44 but she's battled back, and a couple of--
11:46 looked like a couple of bumper cuts
11:47 landed pretty well also, man.
11:48 - Yeah, yeah, and she actually closed out the round
11:51 backing up Cabrera.
11:53 - So a spirited fourth round
11:55 between these two Super Featherweights
11:58 here in Montevideo.
12:00 By the way, the ultimate goal for both of these fighters
12:03 eventually to get to the point
12:04 where they can face Alicia Baumgartner,
12:07 that's still a long ways away,
12:09 the undisputed Super Featherweight title.
12:12 And by the way, my nephew says that one day
12:14 he's gonna marry her because he says she's--
12:17 - I'll say right now for us. - Yeah.
12:19 - You know, I'm a real--
12:20 I wouldn't say optimist or pessimist,
12:21 I'm just more of a realist. - Right.
12:23 - You know, I think at this point
12:24 from what I've seen from these two girls,
12:26 there's more of a chance of your nephew marrying Baumgartner
12:28 than there is of these two ever getting close to a shot
12:31 at a world title with Baumgartner.
12:34 - And we are about to start round number five,
12:38 and what have you seen in terms of defense so far
12:41 from both fighters? - I don't see a lot of defense,
12:43 but that's what makes it entertaining.
12:44 - Right, right. - You know what I mean?
12:45 Like, you get these two girls,
12:46 they see each other, center ring,
12:47 they're banging away.
12:49 You know, it's one of those fights
12:51 where even if you're working on defense,
12:52 you need to mix it with offense.
12:54 You need to, you know, use the counterpunching ability.
12:56 You know, I think when anybody's missing,
12:58 they're not missing because the other one is slipping a shot.
13:01 The other one--they're missing.
13:02 If there's a missed punch, it's because they just missed.
13:05 - Right, right. - You know what I mean?
13:06 I haven't really seen anything defensive
13:08 on either of these-- the part of these girls.
13:10 Maybe having their hands up pretty good once in a while.
13:12 When they throw, they either land or they miss,
13:14 but it's not because of any defensive move.
13:15 - Right, right. - From the elevator.
13:17 - We're not seeing that much slipping or head movement.
13:19 - Or sometimes, like you see here,
13:20 boofing shots here by Cabrera again.
13:22 - Oh!
13:23 That left hook of Cabrera
13:25 almost definitely hurt Carvajal.
13:28 Fifth round here in Montevideo.
13:34 We're seeing a good pace from both of these fighters,
13:42 even though we're getting into--
13:43 toward the end of the fight there.
13:45 - Very good pace.
13:46 You know what the reason that is?
13:47 A lot of times you see this great pace in women's boxing.
13:49 It's two-minute rounds. - Right.
13:50 - So the women are able to really have an increased pace,
13:53 and they get very entertaining.
13:55 - And that's definitely good for the sport as well
13:57 when they can-- - Yeah.
13:58 Don't get me wrong.
13:59 A lot of women I've spoken to, world-class fighters,
14:01 they want to fight three minutes just like the guys.
14:03 - Right. - I'm not against that,
14:04 but I'm just saying a lot of times,
14:06 the reason you end up with these spirited rounds
14:08 in women's boxing, two-minute rounds,
14:09 you're able to kind of muster it up
14:11 and let it go in a more compact phase,
14:14 in a more compact style.
14:15 - Yeah. - 'Cause now you see Carabajal,
14:17 once Cabrera slows down,
14:18 you see Carabajal trying to take the initiative.
14:20 - It means it looks like there's a little bit of swelling
14:22 under the right eye there of Cabrera's, or...
14:25 - Yeah, well, I wouldn't say defense
14:27 has been a specialty in this fight.
14:28 - Yeah. - So I think, you know,
14:30 there is some swelling there under the eye.
14:33 And, you know, punches are landing for both girls.
14:35 - Right. - And like I said,
14:37 when Cabrera starts to slow down,
14:39 Carabajal is able to take advantage.
14:41 And you notice in the second half of these rounds,
14:43 second to the last part of these rounds,
14:45 Carabajal is actually always seeming
14:47 to get Cabrera to back up.
14:48 So what you're noticing is,
14:49 Cabrera's starting to come--
14:51 always start out--start very, very fast in the round,
14:53 then punches herself out. - Right.
14:54 - And then Carabajal ends up backing her up
14:56 as the round progresses.
14:57 But the problem is, is Carabajal
14:59 starting to back up Cabrera too late?
15:02 You know what I mean?
15:03 'Cause it's always in the last 30, 20 seconds
15:05 that she's able to do that.
15:06 But overall, it's Cabrera who has the advantage,
15:08 the first minute, minute and a half of the rounds.
15:10 So you probably end up giving the rounds to Cabrera.
15:12 If Carabajal could just start a little faster,
15:14 she'd be winning these rounds.
15:15 'Cause again, it's just a matter of
15:17 who's making the decision,
15:18 who's taking the initiative in winning the round.
15:20 And it's not really a differentiation of skill
15:22 between these two. - Right.
15:24 Any indication here in this last round,
15:27 sixth round, that maybe we get a late stoppage here?
15:29 Although both of them had just been eating shots
15:31 and dropping bombs on each other.
15:32 - Nah, nah, it doesn't seem like there's--
15:34 they're both looking good shape.
15:35 Both of them are seeming ready to fight every round.
15:37 And I haven't seen really--
15:38 and I saw Cabrera stumble Carabajal a couple rounds ago
15:41 with that overhand right, left hook combination.
15:43 But other than that, you know, I wouldn't see any--
15:45 I wouldn't see that they're hurting each other
15:47 or getting the attention of one another.
15:49 They're landing shots, though.
15:50 I mean, they're wearing a little bit
15:52 with some of the damage, some of the wear and tear on them.
15:56 - I do not envy the judges, let me tell you,
15:58 because this is a pretty close fight here
16:01 on the scorecard, pretty--
16:02 - Yeah, I mean, you know, Carabajal is giving the effort,
16:05 but I think Cabrera has, you know--
16:07 she's pretty much dictated the way the pace
16:09 is gonna be fought, you know?
16:10 It's not for lack of effort from Carabajal,
16:13 but unfortunately for her, you know,
16:14 she's allowed Cabrera to take advantage of it.
16:16 Although here in the last round,
16:18 maybe she can have herself a big round,
16:19 close the fight out a little better, let's see.
16:22 'Cause right now I haven't seen
16:23 the typical fast start to the round
16:25 that Cabrera usually has,
16:26 and that might mean she's getting a little bit tired.
16:28 Let's see if Carabajal has the energy to do it now.
16:31 - Yeah, I was just about to say,
16:33 maybe you're starting to see the fatigue set in,
16:37 the defense starting to collapse.
16:39 - Absolutely, you know,
16:40 they have fought at a fast pace,
16:42 and we were talking about that, G,
16:43 and, you know, sometimes the fast pace
16:45 on a certain point,
16:46 and this is now the sixth round,
16:47 you know, it's not easy to keep that pace.
16:49 Although, nice hook there by Cabrera.
16:51 - I think this is a pretty good start
16:53 to this fight card here in Uruguay
16:55 between these two very evenly matched fighters.
16:59 Elizabeth Cabrera.
17:00 - Oh, headbutt there.
17:01 And I mentioned that at the beginning of the fight,
