00:00 Hi I'm Claire Lark, one of the digital reporters. We've been out today to talk
00:05 to people about e-scooters and in particular the ones which can travel up
00:10 to 40 mile an hour if modified and whether they should be banned. This is
00:14 what they had to say.
00:17 So should e-scooters that can travel up to 40 mile an hour if modified be banned from the roads?
00:22 I believe this would be a, I think, and definitely not allowed on pavements like you see.
00:27 Even if they haven't been modified it shouldn't be allowed on pavements. Too dangerous for the people that are walking,
00:31 especially elderly and kids as well.
00:34 I wouldn't let my child have one.
00:36 Okay.
00:37 So I wouldn't let her, yeah.
00:39 Why so?
00:40 Because I've seen an accident at first hand and it wasn't very pleasant.
00:44 And do you think they're a good mode of transport generally?
00:48 Used. In the right way, yes.
00:52 I've never turned into them on my scooter.
00:54 Have you?
00:55 Yeah, because you can't hear them coming behind you.
00:59 Not this one, the other one, the chair.
01:04 Do you think that they should be on the roads?
01:07 No.
01:08 On the beach, in the beach corners, the race down there.
01:14 Absolutely. Without a shadow of a doubt, that's terrifying.
01:18 I mean, e-scooters that are modified are frightening because they've got no protection.
01:24 I don't know anything about the road laws about the scooters.
01:31 But it just seems so dangerous. It really does seem dangerous.
01:35 And 40 miles an hour on a scooter?
01:38 That's nuts. Absolutely nuts. That's so dangerous.
01:43 They should absolutely be banned.
01:46 Yes. I've had friends who have had e-scooters that have not been modified,
01:52 have had accidents, and they've been seriously injured.
01:57 So I think if e-scooters were modified to over 40 miles an hour,
02:04 there'll be more e-scooter deaths, more serious injuries to people using them.
02:09 Yes, I do. I do think so.
02:11 Why do you think that?
02:12 Because they're going nice and slow, they're in proper control.
02:18 But when they're speeding like that, and it just takes a small child to step out,
02:23 then you've got a bad accident.
02:25 I nearly had a bad accident with one of them.
02:28 I was coming round the corner, and the scooter had come flying round.
02:32 How it missed me, I don't know.
02:34 But that would have done a lot of damage.
02:36 And then there's deaf people like yourself, you can't hear them.
02:40 Yes, plus I'm very hard of hearing, so I can't hear them.
02:43 It's difficult to work out if you're blind or...
02:45 Yes, that's correct.
