00:00 It's very difficult to describe what went through the mind.
00:04 So it could be joy, it could be the sense of accomplishment and also thanksgiving to
00:09 all those people who contributed to build it.
00:12 So all of this, gratefulness, joy, so those are the feelings.
00:18 Sir what were the learning that your team took from earlier mission that ensured success
00:22 this time sir?
00:24 See any failure is such a great teacher.
00:26 The last failure of Chandrayaan 2 gave us a lot of inputs in terms of its data and what
00:31 went wrong and we clearly identified.
00:34 So those lessons are the first thing that we learned and afterwards we looked at what
00:39 all can go wrong further and we strengthened all of them so that the failure won't happen
00:44 this time.
00:45 So essentially in all the space missions failures are important element for achieving success.
00:50 The very first time success doesn't mean it is a success.
00:53 We all realize that the second time we can fail.
00:55 So once it fails lot of data comes and lot of information comes and even if it succeeds
01:02 one time there are possibilities of failures in the second time.
01:05 So looking at many other rocket launches you will understand that.
01:10 So we are very tuned to understanding failures and make corrective actions.
01:15 Why has ISRO chosen the South Pole in the moon sir?
01:18 We have gone closer to South Pole which is 70 degree almost.
01:21 So the South Pole has a special advantage with respect to being less illuminated by
01:27 the sun and because of that there is a potential to have more scientific content in terms of
01:32 retention of water below the subsurface and also elemental composition and other activities
01:38 which is an electrical activity on surface of the moon to be more dominant there than
01:42 what it is there at the equator.
01:43 So science people who are scientists who are working on moon has really shown lot of interest
01:48 on the South Pole because ultimately human beings wants to go and create colonies on
01:52 the moon and then travel beyond.
01:54 So the best place is something that we are looking for.
01:57 So South Pole has a potential to be that.
02:01 Now that the rover Pragyan is on surface of the moon what is the team hoping from it?
02:07 It has two instruments.
02:08 Pragyan has two instruments.
02:10 Both are related to elemental composition finding on the moon as well as chemical composition.
02:15 So one based on laser, other based on alpha particles and both will be doing its experiments
02:19 and more than that it will do the roving on the surface.
02:22 We will do also a robotic path planning exercise which is very important for us for future
02:26 exploration and this data will give a little more understanding of the lunar golith for
02:32 all the scientists.
02:33 So that is what we expect.
02:34 When pictures of Pragyan rover will come on the moon surface?
02:39 It will come soon.
02:40 We are working today for it.
02:43 What are the key experiments that are to be conducted sir?
02:47 So other than those two experiments on the Pragyan we have three experiments on board
02:51 Vikram lander also.
02:52 One is related to finding the seismic activity on the moon surface.
02:56 The payload is ILSA and there is a payload where we will conduct a thermo physical measurement
03:02 of the moon surface called CHASTE.
03:05 And the third experiment is REMBA which is going to measure the electrical activity on
03:12 the surface especially to study the charged particle atmosphere of the moon.
03:17 So three such experiments.
03:18 Sir, what is the next for BISRO in terms of mission Gaganyaan and mission Aditya?
03:24 Aditya is a mission to Sun.
03:25 It is getting ready and it is just ready for launch.
03:28 First week of September it will be launched and after that it will be launched it will
03:32 travel for many days to reach the L1 point.
03:35 Gaganyaan is still in the work in progress and we are doing a mission possibly by end
03:40 of September or beginning of October for demonstrating the crew module and crew escape capability
03:46 and which will be followed by further missions of unmanned missions next year beginning and
03:50 many more test missions and ground test, hundreds of them until we do the first manned mission
03:56 possibly by 2025.
03:57 BISRO has also showcased extraordinary ability to the world that how do you view especially
04:03 going forward?
04:06 Of course we continue to work on domains which are very complicated compared to many
04:10 others scientific and technological domains and we are very happy in last 60 years we
04:14 were able to accomplish something very phenomenal that other like as much as a developed nation
04:19 could do having rockets of our own made fully in India, designed and made in India as well
04:24 as satellites and missions whatever we want to achieve.
04:27 It is a great feeling and it has also been serving the country in terms of applications
04:31 and as well as creating industries, engineering capability and motivating people more than
04:36 that creating an inspirational organization where it has become the nation's pride and
04:41 we are very happy about that.
04:43 So what is the functional capability of the rover and the lander at this point of time
04:47 and what you are expecting from this in coming days?
04:50 Nothing but scientific experiments.
04:52 So it is designed to do that scientific experiments and we expect good data out of it.
04:57 What is the data?
04:59 So that we need another one hour to explain to you the scientific content of it so I won't
05:04 venture on it.
05:05 No, I have already explained what the elemental composition by the Prakhyan and various thermo
05:09 physical and atmospheric properties of the moon by the rover, by the lander.
05:15 When it comes to the cost you said funnily that we can't reveal it sir.
05:20 What is the reason sir?
05:21 I never said I can't reveal it.
05:23 We have already revealed the cost.
05:27 What is ISRO's next plan as far as this Chandrayaan 3 is concerned sir?
05:31 Chandrayaan 3 is nothing but conduct the experiment for the next 14 days.
05:36 What is the health condition of the lander and the rover both at this point of time?
05:40 Both are very healthy.
05:41 Thank you so much.
05:42 Thank you so much.
05:43 Sir I need just two questions in Hindi sir.
05:46 Okay.
05:47 Sir, firstly, how do you feel after this successful mission and how was it before
05:56 after the flight?
05:57 Before and now we are very contented, we are very joyful that we were able to make this
06:04 mission successful.
06:05 So that's why we are grateful to everybody for contribution, prayers, your blessings.
06:13 Sir, what did you learn from the two missions and what changes did you make in them?
06:23 Chandrayaan 2 to 3, we had a problem in Chandrayaan 2 about the soft landing so we learned lessons
06:31 from that.
06:32 After that, the changes we wanted in Chandrayaan 3, we put in many new instruments.
06:39 The software is rugged, we did hundreds of tests.
06:44 So we had a chance of failure this time only.
06:52 For any mission, failure is there, so we cannot do anything.
06:58 But everything went very well, it went nominally.
07:01 So we got a successful mission.
