Today (August 24) over half a million students collected their GCSE grades.

Results have returned to pre-pandemic levels, similar to those in 2019, and - as with A-level results last week - are lower than in 2022.

Many students headed to schools across the North West to find out their grades and we went down to Co-op Academy Manchester in Higher Blackley to speak to some of them.

00:00 "I can't believe it, it's just shocking, it's just shocking. I can't believe it, thank you."
00:09 Today, on the 24th of August, over half a million students collected their GCSE grades.
00:15 Results have returned to pre-pandemic levels similar to those in 2019,
00:20 and as with A-level results last week, are lower than in 2022.
00:25 Many students headed to schools across the North West to find out their grades,
00:30 and we went down to Co-op Academy Manchester in Higher Blackley to speak to some of them.
00:34 "I'm very happy, I got a 9 for science, 8 for maths, I'm very happy with my English grade,
00:39 because at the start of the year in my mocks I got a grade 2, but for my results I got a 6."
00:45 "I'm chuffed because all the subjects that I found most important, I've all got high ones on,
00:50 like English I got 7 and 9, BTPE I got a distinction 2 star, so I've done very well and I'm happy with myself."
00:58 "I feel really happy, I think the results speak for itself, I think I did really well."
01:02 "I'm also feeling good, didn't do as well, but I got in and I think that's all that matters."
01:07 "I'm surprised because I thought I was going to get lower, but then
01:10 the subjects I thought I was going to fail at, I got like top bands kind of."
01:16 "I haven't opened my results yet, but I'm feeling confident because I worked hard for it,
01:21 so I know there will be a good grace inside of it."
01:25 "I got 8 in Italian, come on."
01:28 "It's okay, it's okay."
01:29 "My brother got a 9, I got 7 in Spanish."
01:32 "It's good."
01:34 "Oh my god."
01:35 "I was feeling nervous, but now I got it. I think I've done well,
01:40 but I think I could have put more effort into it."
01:43 "Really, really good. I worked really hard for it, I revised so much, so much."
01:49 "I feel it because my English is not that good when I came and I achieved really high,
01:56 my expectations were really low, but then when I actually opened the results I was like,
02:00 'Wow, I didn't expect that.' I just cried, I was crying right there with my mum because I was so proud."
02:06 "And yeah, I worked really hard for it."
02:09 "I'm really happy that I got the grades that I wanted to get."
02:12 "I mean, obviously, maths, I kind of got an 8, which is kind of disappointing for me,
02:17 but I'm really happy with all my other results. I'm happy that I overcame my problems because
02:24 I came from India last year, so all the subjects were different, so it was quite a change and I had
02:30 to learn everything from scratch. So to be able to have these results from just studying for a year,
02:37 it's a really proud moment for me."
02:39 "I'm happy, yeah, because I did very well, especially that I came, I joined the school
02:44 in November, I came to the UK in November, and it was quite difficult for me, imagine getting my
02:51 grades. So at the end I got my very nice grade, I'm very proud because I did something, at least
02:59 I did something, and every time I did my mock exams it was better and better."
